I am selling my laptop soon, so I decided to try and factory reset it. I couldn't, even though I had been able to before, because Windows couldn't reboot because openSUSE was my GRUB menu (I booted it from CD). How do I uninstall openSUSE and get it back just to loading Windows 7 at start up? I'm a total newbie at this so please explain so I can understand.

View 7 Replies View Relatedi installed opensuse on my acer laptop wich has win xp home sp3. but as i only have a 70gb HD i installed Opensuse on my external WD HDD 1TB i have a 30 GB partition on it so i put it there.but my problem came when i started my comp without my HDD plugged in and i couldnt load windows. so i was going to uninstall it and create a partition on my laptops HD to put Opensuse on. so after trying to get it removed and getting some info from other forums i repaired the windows MBR which allowed me to boot up windows.
but now after trying to format the partition opensuse was on, my comp can no longer see it. i can not format it with the WD formatting software or through windows computer managment. i have tried partition manager but it cannot read my whole HDD infact it doesnt see any of it, and i tried using the install disc at start up but it is unable to even install on that partition as it cannot use that partition.i also tried with the win xp disc at start up but it also cant access the HDDi am also a noob at linux systems and only installed as i wanted to see what it was like and learn about the system.
I have installed Gnu cash in Opensuse 11.4 but how can I uninstall this programme

Now I have multiple entries in the bootloader, the default, the desktop, and the openSUSE 11.3 -2.6.34-12. Since I am new to linux what am I suppose to do with all those entries?

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I recently installed openSUSE KDE (latest build, don't know the number?). total linux noob, been a windows user all my life. right now i'm dual-booting between win 7 and opensuse KDE. i originally alotted for a parsley 10gb only to use as a backup whenever my windows inevitably starts having problems and i have no access or means to repair it/ use as a secure place to scan my windows partition and external drives for viruses. i want to expand my opensuse partition.
so my problem is this: i have a 200gb windows partition, a 15 gb partition (U) i set up to do file swapping cross-os (which i couldnt figure out how to work, btw. formatted it in FAT32). and my 10 gb suse partition (O). i tried using the built-in KDE partition manager to shrink or completely do away with U, and expand the suse partition. the problem is my suse partition is ecapsulated by an extended partition, whatever that is, and suse has its own 1.5 gb "swap" partition. after shrinking U i tried expanding O, but it said i was already at max size. tried expanding extended, also didnt work, same goes for the 1.5 gb suse swap partition.
i read in another post that i could do the resizing via some sort of bootable disc, the only problem is that i have no access to cd or dvd blanks, and i have no usb thumb drives just 2 external hd's - 1tb and 250gb. so how can i go about expanding my opensuse partition? the easiest way i could think of is to just reformat/repartition from windows, and reinstall opensuse from my boot dvd. only problem with that is i cant SEE my suse partition from windows...
i imagine i could also just boot from the dvd and run the installer again, and use the partitioner built into the installer, but i didn't really feel comfortable with it the first time around. im know my way around a computer but all of a sudden it blindsided me with a ton of options i know nothing about, it was a little too complicated.

I've tried disabling Totem, selecting VLC as the application/x-VLC type but nothing works. I'd just like to uninstall the Totem plugins completely but don't know how... or find a way to make VLC work in 11.4 with Firefox 4. I installed FF 4.0.1 but no change.

I want to uninstall my openSuSE 11.2 from my desktop PC. I am currently running openSuSE on one of my other laptops, openSolaris on the other laptop, and I am going to run ubuntu on my desktop PC. I don't see them in the uninstallation GUI but ı couldn't remove one thing: When I right click on an mp3 file and choose "open file with", winamp is still there. How can I remove it from the list?

I found that 'Software Manager' can also be used to uninstall the package, so I use it to uninstall pidgin. The problem is after I pressed 'Apply' button, there are so many package installing by themselves. I saw that most of them are appended with '-lang'.
I uninstalled Google Earth and the "grey" icon remains no matter what I do. Also I had wine to run an MS application I uninstalled wine, before uninstalling the application. The icons remain, do I need to re-install wine again, uninstall the application then uninstall wine? The file that held the application I deleted, first because I had a brain fade.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI think the problems are connected to the ATI drivers I've installed. I used the ones I got off of the ATI graphics driver repository specifically for OpenSuse. I would like to try the latest drivers off ATI's website again. I understand they are much more recent than the ones in the repository. The first time I tried them they didn't work, though they have worked in the past for me on a previous incarnation of this system. Do I have to uninstall the current drivers first? If so, how do I be certain I have uninstalled all that is necessary since I didn't keep track of the details in the first place? I can find some of them using the search function but perhaps not all. I would imagine there is a way to do that using YaST since I got everything off that one repository.
which option in the ATI graphics driver installer (ati-driver-installer-10-4-x86.x86_6.run) should I use? I'm using 11.2-64 on an Intel based system. Will the 32 bit drivers work on a 64 system? As I noted, the automatic option doesn't work for me. From reading some of the other posts here it seems perhaps I should start in level 3 and use the cli from there. That's not what I did before. Or should I try the latest 11.3 milestone since that seems to have better graphics card support?

I'm limited to using my hard drive as there's no CD/DVD or floppy drives installed on the machine and BIOS does not support booting from USB.

From the terminal enter these commands
sudo mkdir /distro
sudo chmod `whoami`:`whoami`
cp MYLINUX.iso /distro/distro.iso
Now extract Linux_kernel & Ram_disk to /distro#
Open /boot/grub/menu.lst

title Install Linux
root (hdX,X)
kernel /distro/Linux_kernel
initrd /distro/Ram_disk

Creating the folder "distro" on root was easy and went smoothly. I can't seem to make the second 'whoami' command work, though. I copied-and-pasted "sudo chmod `whoami`:`whoami`" into the terminal. It asks me for the root password, I enter that and then get

i know if u search a solution in forums u get so much confused information. i hope this little manual will help all with the nvidia driver problem! u dont need to edit or create a xorg.conf or something to run the driver correct and u need no blacklistedit too! if u did the standard opensuse 11.3 install its only about 2 kernel packages and the disabling of the x11noveau driver.
1. after standard installing opensuse 11.3 update and install the opensuse softwareupdates
2. install with the yast software re/installer:
(from Desktop or from the terminal. the terminal text command is: yast2)

u dont need to change the menu.lst after all, only u get many problems. run the midnight commander and delete the nomodeset word and the noveau driver would be normally still active after reboot.
I am currently installing 11.2 on a new 1TB hdd.the opensuse installer does not allow me to create a / partition (ext4) >20GB. Does anyone know why and how I can get around this limitation?
