I uninstalled Google Earth and the "grey" icon remains no matter what I do. Also I had wine to run an MS application I uninstalled wine, before uninstalling the application. The icons remain, do I need to re-install wine again, uninstall the application then uninstall wine? The file that held the application I deleted, first because I had a brain fade.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've installed Visualboy advance on OpenSuse 11.2 and it is no where to be found. YaSt says its installed but it is not in kick-off or when using run application. In Kick-off the computer section that has yast and run command and another app. YaSt and the other app (I can't remember what it was) have disappeared and only run command is left.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I tried to uninstall some applications, pidgin, for example, via 'Add/Remove Software', YaST told me that I have to uninstall another 200+ packages. Is this something normal? I'm new to Linux and don't want ruin the system, so I seek for another way.
I found that 'Software Manager' can also be used to uninstall the package, so I use it to uninstall pidgin. The problem is after I pressed 'Apply' button, there are so many package installing by themselves. I saw that most of them are appended with '-lang'.
I am currently running openSUSE 11.4 w/ Gnome 3.I wound up installing Adobe Digital Editions using Wine.Got everything working, except I ended up installing it twice (once as root and once as myself.Currently in my "Applications" I show 2 Adobe Digital Editions.I have ran wine uninstaller as both myself and as root, and the icons are still in the Applications window.I am not sure who is to blame and what I should try to access to rm these icons.

I'm a recent migrant to Ubuntu from windows xp, and I definitely love linux. but, after years of windoze, I'm left with a few questions. today I tried installed kde, but it didn't work on my hardware, so I uninstalled it. i also tried to put google earth on my system, but it kept crashing so I removed it. after removing kde I had to reinstall a couple programs. all said, after doing all that, do I need to scan my system to remove trash files, or is that not a problem in linux?I'm also having some problems finding software after I've installed it in synaptic. when the package shows to be installed, I can't find any way to launch it through the menus. I don't have that problem if I use the ubuntu software center.

But when I "reinstall" it it still has sites from my previous browsing Allowed plus settings from my old install. How do I completely erase all its settings so that when I reinstall it it is like it is a fresh/brand new install? I used to be able to do this with CCleaner for Windows.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a clean install of openSUSE 11.4 64 bit using gnome as the desktop manager. When selecting applications from the gnome menu, randomly the application will appear to not launch. However, if I click anywhere in left, upper portion of my desktop it becomes obvious that the application has launched and is not visible. For example, yast will not appear but clicking in that portion of my desktop causes various windows to appear that correspond to the different options in the yast home screen.
View 5 Replies View RelatedOnly "Favourites", "Run Command" and "Leave" is shown on the classic KDE menu, same thing when switching to Launcher Menu Style. Missing Applications and everything else. File associations is not working. Double clicking any type of file it asks to install the program and the known applications menu is empty.
I tried to add a new user, same problem with that. I also noticed that when running Chrome it asks to be the default web browser each time even when I say yes.
I have not been messing with anything, I suspect it happened during a update, but I got the exact same repositories on 2 other x64 machines where there is no problem.
I'm using KDE 4.6.0 from the factory repository.
I tried to reinstall some KDE4 packages without any luck.
I do not want to reinstall the entire system or downgrade KDE.

Operating System Windows Vista Home Basic (Service Pack 1)(varies by model) Anyways here is what happens, and this only happens to me when i run linux. THIS NEVER HAPPENED WHILE RUNNING WINDOWS VISTA OR WINDOWS XP. First icons will disapear and text will not work, images wont be there, system dock and explorer will just not work, the start menu will have nothing in it, and when i restart it, (manual) it will boot and show me specs and say "NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND" and when i go into BIOS it says IDE0:_______ not the hard drive name and size like it usually does.
I'm looking for a way to hide the icons in the Gnome menu bar.
The only thing i've found is the gconf-editor and unchecking /desktop/gnome/interface/menus_have_icons, but that only affects the System menu and not Applications and Places...

How do I resize the icons and or favorites panel, on the left side of F15.
Also I noticed that fedora 15 is casing my laptop to run hotter than windows 7.
In my desktop toolbar on the right side where my running applications are shown etc. I have some problems:
1) After a while and after some messages have been shown and applications started, there is a growing gap which gets larger. When I move the mouse over the gap, I see tooltips belonging to the application to the right which is always a different one so I assume that it is a toolbar problem and no application problem.
2) Some icons are not clickable with the left mouse button, e.g. Rhythmbox. When I left click on it, nothing happens.
3) When I open the volume control with a left click, I cannot close it by clicking somewhere else. I always have to click on the "Mixer" Button to see a whole window and then I can close it.
I recently installed virtual box on debian and after it had finished my terminal informed me that I could remove some "unnecessary" software by use of sudo apt-get autoremove. When I did this, some of the icons on the desktop changed and all of the icons in the drop down menu on the bar at the top of the screen also changed to ordinary folder symbols. The theme that I was using also went away. I restarted the computer and it booted back into a shell prompt with no GUI. I tried to get back to the GUI using alt+f7 but it didn't seem to exist

All of a sudden all my drop-down menus in the upper left dissapeared (things like system, applications, bookmarks, etc.) though buttons/shortcuts and clock, etc. are still there though oddly spaced out.
