OpenSUSE Hardware :: Use ATI Drivers For HD Cards?

Dec 15, 2009

I have a computer with a Radeon HD 3200 graphics card and I am trying to use the ATI drivers for the HD cards because according to the wiki it is for HD 2000+ cards. After installing via the RPM and using aticonfig/sax2 to configure the card I have no X.org after boot/init 5 and in xorg.0.log. I get the following output regarding the driver

[code]...

I have followed the troubleshooting guide in the wiki and still no go. "We must plan for freedom, and not only for security, if for no other reason than only freedom can make security more secure."

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Best Way To Switch Video Cards And Drivers

Jul 17, 2010

I would like to know the best way to swap out video cards from ati to nvidia. For example. In windows, I would uninstall the driver, switch the cards, boot into a low VGA windows session and install the new drivers, reboot done.

In sues, I'm wondering if I uninstall the drivers, after rebooting I might loose my Gnome desktop. And I guess at that point I'd be looking at a blinking cursor?

OpenSUSE Install :: When Official Drivers For NVIDIA Cards Are Coming Out?

Jul 15, 2010

Like a guy earlier today report a problem with Opensuse 11.2 working fine on his machine but 11.3 is not. I have somewhat the same problem. The default installation freezes randomly. I have seen this error before with Intel video cards but never with NVIDIA. Right now, I'm using VESA in failsafe mode and trying to install some drivers from this repo.

I'll try and find a fix for this. (Hope their is one)BTW, can anyone confirm when the official drivers for NVIDIA cards are coming out?

General :: Different Graphic Cards Drivers While Booting From External Media

Sep 14, 2010

I am booting a certain system of mine with ubuntu 9.10 from external HDD. I am satisfied with the setup and it works fine, however I would like to modify it so that I can choose which graphic card drivers to load during the boot time. Specifically I would like to choose between:

nvidia proprietary driver
ati proprietary driver
generic driver

Currently if I am using proprietary drivers then dont boot into X, delete xorg.conf, start gdm and reconfigure the system using jockey (for hardware drivers).

What would be the steps to make this (semi-)automatic and avoid restarting X?

Where could one find examples of such scripts?

Ubuntu Multimedia :: XOrg (Opensource) Drivers For ATI Radeon Cards?

Jan 4, 2010

For those of us who were stung last year by ATI's decision to drop support for <= R500 series cards from their closed source, or proprietary driver (known as the FGLRX driver), we are now forced to use the opensource ATI XORG driver. This is not as bad as it sounds, as in doing so, ATI has released a lot of the hardware specs on these older cards and the opensource driver has improved dramatically in the last year as a result.

Ubuntu includes both the ATI and the FGLRX driver install capacities in recent releases (since Intrepid(?)). If one can install the FGLRX driver, you should be able to do this by choosing System>Administration>Hardware Drivers and choosing to activate the ATI drivers; or you can manually install them using this guide: [URL]

However, if you have a card that is or below the R500 series (i.e. not R600+) DO NOT install the FGLRX drivers - you will break your X server (video display). If you don't know what series chipset you have, try the following:

Code:
$ lspci
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile PM965/GM965/GL960 Memory Controller Hub (rev 0c)
00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile PM965/GM965/GL960 PCI Express Root Port (rev 0c)

[Code]....

If you're like me and need a production machine, but just want updated drivers, try this link: [URL]

To add the PPA (Guide): [URL]

These are fairly easy to remove (as described on the site); just remove the PPA from your Software Sources and downgrade the drivers.

The bad news is that, if I've understood this; Configuring graphics cards/Dual Head Mode - openSUSE, it should be detected and started in clone mode - it isn't. Running sax2 doesn't help (and that's the first thing in the XRandR instructions too. I've yet to see my second monitor so much as flicker. But often when I log in alsa decides that second card is main and I have to pull out the USB card, run command "rcalsasound restart" and put the USB back afterward. It is a way that to be fixed in the way that alsa remember my choices forever. 2. The other problem is that from time to time the sound suddenly dies and I have to bring it up with rcalsasound restart again.

But I have to admit that their significant improvement with managing sound with PulseAudio.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Flash And 2 X Nvidia Graphic Cards 9800GT SLI?

Mar 17, 2011

I am finding a lot of issues with flash in 11.4 release. As I know it is flash issue, because some people after updating flash on 11.3 got the same problem.

Flash seams to be crashing or/and slowing down web browser. After trying to figure out where is the problem, i found that:
1) removing SLI helped a little bit
2) updating to beta (270) nvidia drivers helped a little bit (moving window with flash animation from one screen to another one that is connected to different graphic card does not crash the browser anymore)

But still the problem exists.

For example, sometimes when i minimize the window with flash animation and i open new window (e.g. with spreadsheet) and move it on the same place where was previous window with flash, I can see this flash animation as a background of the new window....

Also, when i am moving the window with flash around, the flash disappears or gets gray.

Sometimes, ..... does not load the movie, but if i open the movie in VM windows, it works fine. After reloading Xwindows it works for a while also in opensuse.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: 2 Audio Cards - How To Redirect Audio Streams

Feb 7, 2010

on my PC I have 2 sound drivers, one from the mainboard (AC97) and one PCI card (ES1969). Because the mainboard sound path did not recording, I installed the PCI sound card and with 11.1, I managed it to play and record all audio data. With 11.2 the PCI sound path plays the system sounds (suse start-up or shut-down sounds) but not the streaming audio data (skype, flash player). But these are played by the mainboard audio instead. The audio-tests from yast->hardware->sound work for both paths. How should I configure the system to redirect the audio streams to the desired (PCI) audio path? The PCI audio is set as primary sound card and is not muted.

OpenSUSE Network :: Two Network Cards With Different Settings For Internet Access

Feb 9, 2010

I have a desktop computer running OpenSUSE 11.2 with two network cards installed. I would like to use both cards for connecting to the internet using different networks. The setting would be the following: eth0 is the main (default) card, almost all programs should use this NIC for connecting to the internet. eth1 is used only by a few programs, which have setting for selecting which network interface to use. The two NIC's are connected to different networks, so the IP address of the NIC's, the related subnet masks and gateways are also different.

Saying short, I would like to have the two NIC's as they would be in two separate computers. I can set the IP address and subnet mask of the NIC's. The main problem is that I can only declare one gateway. How can i setup this? I do not use network manager, I configure network cards using yast, but if needed I can of course use ifconfig directly.

OpenSUSE Install :: Boot - After Installing New Graphics Drivers OpenSUSE 11.4

Jul 14, 2011

I have installed openSUSE 11.4, and I really like it compared to other linux versions I've tried, but I find it requires a bit more linux know-how.

Being fairly new to linux, it has been quite the effort to learn but I started getting the hang of things via online support and such. Lately I've been having some problems.

I need linux to run a TCAD program, and it requires some openGL functionality and was giving me errors when I tried entering the software related modeling GUI.

Anyhow, I thought it had to do with my graphics drivers, so I decided to update them via ATI proprietary driver. After doing this, the system booted me into the console rather than X.

I tried numerous online guides on how to fix the issues, by running all sorts of boot commands (nomodset), and I read the graphics driver theory, as well as trouble shooting ATI graphics.

In the process, I also installed a radeonhd-xorg11-something through YAST, and that caused a black screen altogether upon boot. I managed to boot into failsafe with x, and from there I removed it via YAST, however this did not resolve issues. I also deleted any xorg.cionf files in hopes that the system will default back to the radeon driver.

As it stands right now, I can only boot into my system via failsafe mode. I'm keeping the unit off for now as it's probably tired from all the hard reboots I had to do . If someone can help me resolve this issue, I can turn it on and enter any commands required, such as finding out the graphics card, the kernel, the driver currently running, etc and I can post it here.
