OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Flash And 2 X Nvidia Graphic Cards 9800GT SLI?

I am finding a lot of issues with flash in 11.4 release. As I know it is flash issue, because some people after updating flash on 11.3 got the same problem.
Flash seams to be crashing or/and slowing down web browser. After trying to figure out where is the problem, i found that:
1) removing SLI helped a little bit
2) updating to beta (270) nvidia drivers helped a little bit (moving window with flash animation from one screen to another one that is connected to different graphic card does not crash the browser anymore)
But still the problem exists.
For example, sometimes when i minimize the window with flash animation and i open new window (e.g. with spreadsheet) and move it on the same place where was previous window with flash, I can see this flash animation as a background of the new window....
Also, when i am moving the window with flash around, the flash disappears or gets gray.
Sometimes, ..... does not load the movie, but if i open the movie in VM windows, it works fine. After reloading Xwindows it works for a while also in opensuse.

This is 10.04 LTS 64-bit. I took all the modern stuff out of the computer, so I should be cool to make the system displays work right with just a single nv 9800gt adapter and just two displays a Viewsonic 1920x1080 and a samsung 2048x1152.
When I first installed, both monitors had the right resolution but the wrong monitor was primary. That appears to be extremely difficult to solve, with none of the options I found working for me, so I just swapped the cables.
After that change, the proper monitor is primary, but the other monitor is now stuck at 640x480. I googled and binged and slapped and blew and sucked and none of the magic lines to put into my xorg.conf have worked - in fact, I'm finding the best solution might be to put together some command lines with xrandr (which only sees one display FWIW) that do what I want, and then run those each time I start up the OS. I'm willing. I can type fast and I have a good memory.
I THINK I'm looking for the magic line I put into my /etc/X11/xorg.conf to get that display rotated 90 degrees. If CW is harder than CCW, I'll re-mount the display if needed. I can be flexible. A higher resolution would be GREAT as well, but I came into the world at 80x24, I can leave it the same way - thing is, seems like soemtimes, if the moons are aligned, I don't need it at all?
If the real solution is to re-install, that's fine, but I'm going to be back here again, with much more cynicism when I buy a new monitor.

Im new to linux. Im trying to install 11.4 on my desktop. When i try to run the live CD (GNOME) .. after loading the kernel, the screen with just a progressbar appears and the screen crashes, as in some parts of it goes black.. Although, i can install it perfectly, when the OS boots the same kinda screen appears and crashes My system config- intel i7-870 4 core 4GB RAM nVidia GeForce 9800GT 1GB i need to get rid of windows fast.

I inserted another graphics card to my computer to use 3 monitors. The card appears in lspci but I can't access it in gnome.
What do I have to do to set this up.

is there any way to activate the graphic cards without a monitor?It seems in xorg.conf, a "Device" had to be referenced by a "Screen" to have it activated.
I wonder is there any other way to activate a graphic cards without monitor connected to it?

I am running Ubuntu 9.10. My work requires me to frequently swap video cards between an ATI Radeon 5870 card and an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX card. My question is: can the ATI driver (fglrx - catalyst 10.2) and the NVIDIA driver (nvidia 190.29) co-exist? Or do I need to reinstall the driver every time I change the card? I would like for the drivers to be able to co-exist so it would only be a matter of restarting my machine with the new card and choose the right xorg.conf file (perhaps from the GRUB menu).

After a PSU and motherboard failure, I'm about to spec out a new PC. The last time I looked, Nvidia was the preferred graphics chipset as they tended to support Linux better than ATI. Is this still the case?[url].... seem to have lots of ATI cards in stock but hardly any Nvidia (despite offering a similar sized range), but I don't want to get an ATI card if it's not preferred for technological reasons (or even FOSS ethical reasons!).

I have seen several posts on various message boards that touch on the no sound over hdmi on nvidia cards issue (mine is an 8400 gs) and the general consensus seems to be create a custom edid and tell x to use it. It happens with any type of video be it avi, mp4, mkv or any other I try to play with exception of flash with my browser. Otherwise everything is perfectly normal.
Do take a note that when I take a screen shot with the program (Totem, VLC or any other video player I play the video) the picture is perfectly normal like so:[url]

i just upgraded my pc to 12.1 milestone 5 when i went to play my fav game (Xonotic) it was all laggy at 1 fps. I realised the graphics card app wasnt working anymore.Can any 1 fix PS and i had to go on failsafe too. PS2 milestone 5 workes flawlessly apart from the gnome 3 bug at startup

I tried to install the NVIDIA graphic card drivers on my laptop XPS 1340, running with opensuse 11.2. There are two graphic cards, the integrated one and the NVIDIA one. I installed the drivers correctly by doing

but when trying to configure the x-server

I recently upgraded to Lucid from Karmic and shortly before the release upgraded from a geforce 8400gs to my geforce GT240 and noticed no difference on Karmic. I read somewhere that the capability of video cards would be applied further with Lucid. Since installing Lucid I've noticed a severely reduced sharpness and severely increased contrast, changing the contrast in X server has no effect. My hardware driver is activated but not in use and no online fix I've attempted has been successful in resolving the issue. Is it possible to use a gt240 on lucid with no hassle and is there any way I can maximize my video cards capabilities?

Initially I had just teh HD 3600 in the PC, using the "AMDccle" drivers and configuration running two monitors.
I then added an old RV280 PCI card to allow a third monitor. When the PC powers on the bios output is on the RV280, once linux starts the RV280 monitor goes to the ubuntu desktop colour, the two monitors on the HD3600 get a signal (power up) and display the logon screen.
When I log on the two HD3600 screens become my desktop. If I ctrl alt f1 etc. the terminal screen comes up on the RV280 and the two HD3600 screens go blank. This suggests that all 3 monitors/ 2 graphics cards are all working ok, and ubuntu is happy with them. My problem now is to make the RV280 accessable via X/gnome at the same time as the HD3600. It would be nice to have it as a 3rd monitor on a very wide desktop, but I'd settle for it being its own little window running various tasks/programs such as mail/firefox.

I am new to Suse Linux. So please excuse me for this "funny" query. have read the threads: Configuring graphics cards in openSUSE 11.3
From here I went to this page: SDB:Configuring graphics cards - openSUSE Its mentioned on this page that: Upon installing openSUSE, the X system's automatic configuration may have failed to properly configure the graphics correctly. Typically this results in either a black screen upon reboot, or the wrong resolution being displayed on the monitor.
I have none of these problems. But after searching for inability of desktop effects to become activated, I found that nVIDIA graphic card drivers are must for these effects. After clicking "My computer" icon on desktop, I found Display Info as following:
Vendor: nVidia Corporation
Model: G98 [GeForce 8400 GS]
2D driver: nouveau
3D driver: nouveau Gallium (7.8.2)
Can anyone tell me 'Is nouveau an alternative for nVIDIA'? Is this the reason for no wrong resolution or black screen upon boot. That means my computer graphics are working correctly. Then why does Desktop Effects are not getting enabled.
After searching for Kaffeine media player extra codecs to play media files, I incidentally found the following options: I opened Yast Control Center @ linux-o26a Software> Add on Products > installed Add-On Products > Community Repositories > clicking Next, this opened a window with "List of Online repositories" where there is an option of "NVIDIA Repository". If I install it, will it enable the "Desktop effects"

Like a guy earlier today report a problem with Opensuse 11.2 working fine on his machine but 11.3 is not. I have somewhat the same problem. The default installation freezes randomly. I have seen this error before with Intel video cards but never with NVIDIA. Right now, I'm using VESA in failsafe mode and trying to install some drivers from this repo.
I'll try and find a fix for this. (Hope their is one)BTW, can anyone confirm when the official drivers for NVIDIA cards are coming out?

I'm currently using windows 7 on my computer, I have an ATI GPU and I am willing to install Ubuntu to finally rock it out. However I'm going to change my video card for a newer nVidia one in a few weeks and I'm wondering about the drivers change.. Under windows it should be quite simple however I'm quite afraid of possible issues I could have under Ubuntu. Probably (I believe and hope) everything will just work fine, simply plug and play, no conflicts, nothing at all. However I'm asking because I would like to avoid any issues, as I prefer dealing with windows one month or so more than having driver issues under ubuntu...
Resume: is it possible that changing GPU (brand) generates driver issue under ubuntu 10.10?

I'm using Ubuntu 11.04. I should have two graphic cards, and they are both detected in the terminal.

Both cards have monitors plugged into their VGA ports, but only one of the monitors shows a display. The other monitor goes into power saver mode right after start up. Nvidia X Server settings only shows a single graphics card (the 8200) and a single monitor (detect monitor finds nothing). Going through Prefences: Monitors also only shows a single monitor and doesn't detect a thing when detect monitors is clicked.
Monitor one has 1440 x 900 resolution and I'm not sure what the resolution of Monitor two is supposed to be, but it displays rather nicely at being set to 1440 x 900.
Both graphics cards are detected and usable in Vista, but a quick switch of the plugs shows that only the 8200 is registering in Ubuntu.
Ideally I want to have a dual monitor set up, with one screen showing documents or pictures with the other using Gimp or Blender.

I recently changed my Graphic card drivers from Nouveau to nVIDIA in Suse 11.3 KDE.
One thing I have noticed that initially I had been using various Adobe Fonts in many applications prior to change of drivers. But after this change the looks of the same fonts became quite different, the length & breadth of "individual letters" changed quite a lot making them look not so beautiful as they were earlier. Am I missing something or is it a normal phenomenon. But I am satisfied with the present looks.

I am booting a certain system of mine with ubuntu 9.10 from external HDD. I am satisfied with the setup and it works fine, however I would like to modify it so that I can choose which graphic card drivers to load during the boot time. Specifically I would like to choose between:
nvidia proprietary driver
ati proprietary driver
generic driver
Currently if I am using proprietary drivers then dont boot into X, delete xorg.conf, start gdm and reconfigure the system using jockey (for hardware drivers).
What would be the steps to make this (semi-)automatic and avoid restarting X?
Where could one find examples of such scripts?

I'm about to buy a laptop and there are some interesting and affordable Toshiba ones, but they all have Intel GMA 4500M graphic card. I have NVIDIA card on my desktop and their drivers work perfectly, i was just wandering what the situation with Intel's graphic cards is. I need 3D rendering for compiz and stuff, is it too much of a hassle to enable them?

I'm having trouble getting 1080p out my xfx 9800gt that has an onboard hdmi socket. No doubt my HDTV is 1080p (panasonic TH-427PZ70B a few years old now), and it will do and has run at 1080p 60hz.
It auto detects the display as simply panasonic-tv and outputs at 1080i. As I've been running mythtv with tv tuners this actually worked quite well as dvb-t is interlaced anyway and most ofthe HD video files I play are 720p. However I would like to run it at 1080p for all the usual reasons- especially as I have some 1080p files I'd like to enjoy in all their glory!!
This doesn't seem to be ubuntu specific as mandriva behaves the same, and makes no difference if I use the open source (default with 9.10), the official nvidia package or as I've just tried 10.04 with default and nvidia.
I've searched around for nvidia hdmi 1080p etc but can't seem to dig up anything useful. Surely I should be able to force the graphics card to output standard 1080p 60hz?
Should I be able to do this through xrandr by setting a modeline or in xorg.conf or nvidia control pannel!?

Whenever I login or restart the computer, my resolution gets reset. I think it may have to do with my setup being connected to a 18.5" HDTV. Is there a way to set custom resolutions in the OS, so that Nvidia and OpenSUSE can recognize them?

1. I run Suse 11.2 with two sound cards , one HDA comes with motherboard and second is USB, which I use for skype and talking. In YAST everything is fine the motherboard card is marked as prime card and the usb card is marked as second. But often when I log in alsa decides that second card is main and I have to pull out the USB card, run command "rcalsasound restart" and put the USB back afterward. It is a way that to be fixed in the way that alsa remember my choices forever. 2. The other problem is that from time to time the sound suddenly dies and I have to bring it up with rcalsasound restart again.
But I have to admit that their significant improvement with managing sound with PulseAudio.

I've seen several threads in Ubuntu regarding implementing vaapi/xvba enabled media players for ATI GPU rendering. Does anyone know of any precompiled rpms for 11.3 (or tips for building on opensuse). I've installed Hellgasts xvba-video-amd rpms from the build service. I wasn't able to successfully build my own mplayer-vaapi from Index of /~gbeauchesne/mplayer-vaapi.

I have downloaded the recommended NVIDIA driver for my Quadro FX 1400 graphics card which has 256 MB RAM. I have my laptop in a docking station and from the docking station is a DVI to HDMI converter then HDMI cable to my TV (the idea is to use it as an internet TV slave! ). When I come to configuring the NVIDIA X Server, it correctly detects both my laptop screen and my TV via the HDMI connection. However, when I come to save the settings for the X server and go to restart it, it cannot save the configuration file. This is most annoying as it does not allow me to use the dualview I need.
The second problem comes when I use something like the BBC iplayer or anything that uses the flash player. I have the latest flash player with Firefox which works fine in non-full screen mode. However, when switching to full screen, the CPU load jumps to 100% and the playback is really jerky. Had this running the beloved windows XP before and could handle full screen no problems. I have seen a few posts here which show workarounds to zoom in on the small screen on Firefox but would prefer to run it in the full screen mode.

I've got a Dell Xeon with two video cards - an nVidia Quadro2 MXR/EX/Go and an ATI Radeon 7000/VE. Under Fedora 10 Xinerama worked just fine, but I recently upgraded to F14 and Xinerama no longer works.The X server tries repeatedly to start but fails, with gdm-binary eventually giving up in disgust. If I comment out the ''Option "Xinerama" "On"' line it starts up (see attached xorg.conf), albeit with a few quirks. I have two X screens (:0.0 and :0.1 - one for each monitor), where :0.0 works just fine but :0.1 has no window manager - I can bring up windows on it but they have no window border ( no min/max/close buttons, can't be resized, etc). The mouse moves freely from one monitor to the other, but windows don't.The error messages I get when I try to use Xinerama are as follows. In /var/log/messages I get:

I'm really desperate here, I have an Alienware M17X laptop with dual Nvidia GTX280M video cards, Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit kernel - 2.6.31-16-generic. The installation was smooth excluding the video cards. I tried installing the drivers through the Hardware Drivers (the easy way) added this: http://ppa.launchpad.net/nvidia-vdpau/ppa/ubuntu to the list of repositories and got the following drivers available: 173,180,185,190,195(recommended). So I tried them all (did 4 re-installs already) with a very poor result - the cards are detected and the drivers were installed ok, but the performance is really a no-go. I'm not even talking about the SLI yet. Just trying to make one card work as it should. What I get is 136FPS in phoronix lightsmark test at 19020x1200 rez. The card should perform 4x from what it does (I know it because the phoronix team did it with a Clevo laptop with single GTX280M card and the older 185.x driver). Also I noticed that the Nvidia X-server shows my cards as PCI 8X instead of 16X, so I think it's a driver issue. So right now I'm trying to install the same driver phoronix used and have some trouble: in the process the installer says it needs to compile the Nvidia driver kernel and is unable to do so, so it fails. What am I missing here? Do I need some prerequisites to be installed prior doing it?

Does anyone know of an alsa based software multi-band (10 or more) graphic audio frequency equalizer that works with Suse 11.x? To be clear, I don't mean an equalizer within an audio or video player. One that can be used with any sound application, that works between the output of the player and the output plugs on a motherboard or sound card.
