OpenSUSE Hardware :: Change The Priority Order Of The Sound Cards In Yast?

Apr 10, 2010

I've tried googling, but can't manage to figure out how to change the priority order of the sound cards in yast. From yast > hardware > sound, I can see the (default) internal audio from the motherboard, and I can see the usb headset that I would like to be using as the default. How should I go about changing the priority order on these devices?

Ubuntu Networking :: Change The Network Card Priority With Multiple Cards?

Sep 26, 2010

I've got two network card interfaces on my computer, one wireless and one wired. The wireless card is connected to the Internet and the wired is connected to the LAN. When only the wireless card is active, Internet works. As soon as i enable the second wired card, Internet stops working. And it seems like Ubuntu chooses the wired card for Internet as soon as it's enabled.

Are there any ways to solve this? So my Ubuntu box always chooses the wireless card for Internet traffic and let me use the wired device for LAN only?

OpenSUSE Install :: YaST Update From Highest Priority Repository?

May 4, 2010

YaST2 -> Package -> All Packages -> Update if Newer Available that YaST would install the most current in the highest priority repository. Given the example data below, I thought package A, version 01, which is currently installed from repository abc, would be updated to version 02 from repository xyz.

How do you get YaST to update packages from the highest priority repository?

Code:
Sample Data:
Repository: xyz package A Ver:02 priority:50
Repository: abc package A installed Ver:01 priority:99

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Sound Cards Loading In Different Order On Bootup?

Nov 13, 2009

I am having issues with my sound..Sometimes when I boot up I get the following when I cat /proc/asound/cards

[digitolx@ssureshot-pc ~]$ cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xd6000000 irq 225[code]....

This is wrong, now My audigy should be default with the UART (onboard) being secondary. I will be setting this up for my microphone / headset. Now if I restart I will get the following..

[digitolx@ssureshot-pc ~]$ cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [CA0106 ]: CA0106 - CA0106
Audigy SE [SB0570] at 0xb000 irq 66
1 [UART ]: MPU-401 UART - MPU-401 UART
MPU-401 UART at 0x330, irq 10

I'm not sure about what is even loading With the NVidia for sound..Is there a way to default this to the second example?

Sound is not working. Clean install new home. Fully patched and multi-media stuff installed. It works in test in yast but nothing else has sound. There is a loud click when KDE starts. Also there is a delay before I can do anything. Tried changing the backends no luck. Also tried disable of phonon in Yast but have nor tried to remove it yet. Perhaps I should.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Yast And Kde Sound Control?

Mar 19, 2011

why is there two different buttons to do the same job? i made the default sound device creative x-fi with the kmix in the right hand corner but i still couldnt hear any sound. i then found out from another forum thread in this forum that to change the default sound device you have to go through yast. it works now but it is confusing. same for networking. network manager is installed by default in 11.4 but if you click on the icon in kde tray it says no network interfaces found. you then have to go to yast, network and click the radio box for network manager then click on ok. i hope in future releases of opensuse there will be one way to change the defaults.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Alsa And Two Sound Cards In 11.2?

Dec 2, 2009

1. I run Suse 11.2 with two sound cards , one HDA comes with motherboard and second is USB, which I use for skype and talking. In YAST everything is fine the motherboard card is marked as prime card and the usb card is marked as second. But often when I log in alsa decides that second card is main and I have to pull out the USB card, run command "rcalsasound restart" and put the USB back afterward. It is a way that to be fixed in the way that alsa remember my choices forever. 2. The other problem is that from time to time the sound suddenly dies and I have to bring it up with rcalsasound restart again.

But I have to admit that their significant improvement with managing sound with PulseAudio.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: SB Audigy SE Sound Only Works In YaST

Jul 7, 2011

I'm using openSUSE 11.4 x86_64. Today I came home from work and opened up Banshee... and to my surprise, nothing came out of the speakers. This morning everything worked just fine and my computer was left untouched since then. I found out that sounds works fine in Ubuntu and Windows 7, but in openSUSE... nothing. Well I tried deleting my sound card in YaST, and then reconfigured it. I used the Quick Automatic Setup option and then played a test sound. It worked so I opened Banshee again and picked a song to play... and still nothing.

Running speaker-test in Terminal returns no errors and no sound. In superuser terminal it returns "Playback open error: -111,Connection refused" and mplayer (in superuser terminal) returns "[AO_ALSA] Playback open error: Connection refused."

Are there some additional steps I should take to diagnose and/or troubleshoot the problem? I only know the problem is native to openSUSE, my speakers and sound card are both functional and sound works fine in Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7.

OpenSUSE :: Unable To Get YAST To Load (Also Can't Change The Time) - 10.3

Mar 22, 2011

I have just recently found I have a problem under SUSE 10.3. History, I had my PC, an IBM Power Centre box with 4g ram and 2 hard-drives (80gb and 1Tb) fail to reboot after a power drop. Got an error message about the 80gb H/D losing some information. I was able tofix the issues by using "fsck". The PC was able to restart after this, and seemed to be working well.

However in the last couple of days I noiticed that the time was incorrect, it seems the sync for time has switched to normal time too early. Right mouse click to adjust this would not bring up the "adjust time" window. ?Why, unknown. I then decided I would go through "YAST" to do my changes, but now I am unable to load "YAST". I can load it through a terminal window, but there must be some reason why it won't load the GUI? from the menu.? There could be other programs that are also not loading that I have not found.

Q- could something have been lost when I had the H/D reboot issue? And if so is there any way of restoring lost or coruputed OS files?

I have the 10.3 OS on DVD, which is how I installed it, and note that there is a recovey prompt, but need some advise on how to go about it. A total reinstall is not an option at this time until I can get a backup unit running.

I did zypper dup to move from 11.3 to 11.4. Almost everything works fine. But when I try to add community repositories I get the 11.3 repositories, not the 11.4 repositories. So there must be a .conf or .rc file somewhere telling yast that we're on 11.3 when in fact we are on 11.4. How/where can I change that? And while we're at it, how do I load a Factory repository? They do not appear in the list of Community" repositories.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: How To Change From Network Manger To Yast

Mar 24, 2010

I'm having a wireless issue (go figure) where I can't get to the internet, can get to my LAN just fine, but trying to ping anywhere on the net just gives me "network unavailable" message. One thing I've seen noted here time and again is people saying "Use Yast vs Network manager" when I go through the Yast Network Devices GUI it tells me it's using network manager, and I need to use ifup (if I want to use Yast), however I have no clue how to go about changing it from one to the other?

Currently I'm using hard-link to get all the updates and see if that will resolve my problems, but figured I'd learn how I'm supposed to switch it for the future.

Ubuntu :: Change Nice Priority At Launch?

I'm currently running on a really old computer with one proc and little memory. It's just enough to get skype running but it only works well enough if I change the nice level to -5 or lower. Now the person that uses skype in the house is really the wife, I don't want to teach her how to open htop in command line, fine the pid and then use the correct command to change the nice. What I am looking for is a script (sorry I don't know thing one about programming/scripting) that will change the nice priority periodically for all pid that are skype. This way call processes will get reniced as well. I know better then to run it as root/sudo, but I am at a loss (even searches came up with not much) on how to do this.

Ubuntu :: Boot Priority Change With Every Restart After Shutdown

Mar 4, 2010

Whenever I start my PC, the information of 'First Boot device' in BIOS changes from hard disk to CD-Rom. It happens with new start, I mean, if I restart my computer after resetting First boot device to hard disk, then priority does not change. Just as I switch on computer, a black screen appears with the message:
CMOS - checksum error - defaults loaded
press F1 to continue, DEL to enter setup

Recently it used to happen, that PC was not reading my hard disk containing GRUB. I have 2 hard disks. I switched the power cables of two hard disks. After that, both hard disks were shown by BIOS but the above mentioned error started appearing. Also grub takes too much time to load. It takes almost 20 seconds. Earlier I was using 'Puppy Linux'. In that, Grub was loading in fraction of second.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Can't Add Device Through "Sound" In YAST

Jan 29, 2011

I have a USB sound recording device and I use it as my main Sound output for Windows and will use it for OpenSuSE Linux: The problem is, I can't add the device through the "Sound" in YAST. Here is the following method I use:

Opened YAST
Clicked Sound under Hardware
Clicked Add to add device
Chose Tascam and US122/224/428
Chose Quick Automatic Setup

Then notification comes up if I want to permanently remove existing sound cards, I choose NO (this is the built in sound card of the mother board) Then Hardware setup shows as error with the following message, "The Kernel Module snd-usx2y for sound support could not be loaded. This can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters." I am thinking that it failed because I'm using an internal sound card instaler instead of a USB device installer. Is there a Manual solution to this? Instead of using the Quick Automatic Setup on step 5? When I click Hardware Information in YAST, the device is being listed on the USB devices.

If I look into software management every now and then, I always have to "switch system packages" to get the updates via the the updated applet. So I was wondering, if it could be due to a wrong priority for those repositories? Is a high or a low priority the point where the applet is looking from which repo to update? If not, what is this priority used for?
