My motherboard is Intel D102GGC. My disply card is ATI Radeon X200(onboard).
I want to add 1152x864 screen resolution.
Currently the "Display" section is displaying this resolutions to select:
I was Ubuntu user before OpenSUSE. In Ubuntu, I can also see only this resolutions. So I run this command:

Then copy the output and paste in XORG.CONF file. I don't know about how to do this in OpenSUSE.
installation opensuse 11.3 and kde 4.4 after update to kde 4.6, work fine, but problem is login screen is low like 640x350...? i wanted to change from lowtion to high 1024x768?when i start opensuse and begin to login was low resolution and log in my user and it's low resolutiona dn i change screen from setting system (kde) after change high display is works fine and rebbot same low resolution for LOGIN MANAGER how i can change it??

Now I did a new installation 11.3 from dvd and the resolution is not higher than 800*600 while on the installation splash screen I could click on the higher resolution. I see there is a lot of documentation on this issue, but that is so difficult. How do I get the resolution higher?

Then after someone else used the computer the resolution changed to 1024x768 and I am unable to change it. Yast recognizes the monitor correctly, but when I run Sax2 it will not change it back to 1280x1024. It accepts that setting but when I start it again it is set at 1024x768. My xorg.conf indicates...

Having given up on a failed OpenSuse 10.3 and installed 11.2, I am now unable to get better screen resolution then 800 X 400. Previously there was no apparent limit, so I know the Viewsonic display is capable of much more.
In Yast2 the nvidia graphics card is identifed OK, but even in Yast I can find no way of getting back to the higher resolution. In the Desktop-tweaking app all I get offered is even lower resoulutions.
I cannot get 1024x768 resolution permanently in my screen. When i go and adjust it in the kde personalize setting in the display menu everything seems to work. But after i reboot the system, the resolution again changes. Then i have to again configure it to 1024x768. Also i cannot find sax in openSUSE 11.3.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a dell latitude with intel i7 nvidia NVS 3100M and screen 1920x1080 resolution, using KDE 4.4 stable suse, well with high resolution monitor I found some problem usng kde:
1- I can change the font dimension by system settings but if I bigger the font the dimension of Kmunu doesn't change so the result is big font in small container, ugly and difficult to use
2- I can change the font dimensions in KDM splashscreen but the window where username and password is shown doesn't change, result is big unreadeable font in a small case
3- I cannot change the tabs and theyr font dimensions in chromium and firefox, result very small tabs
4- Icons in system tray and Kmenu and other icons remains always small even if I bigger the panel
My screen resolution is only 640x480 after I installed the nVidia driver by authority method of 1-click install.
And then I run nvidia-xconfig,/etc/X11/xorg.conf was built.Restart my PC.
I selected the default mode to run opensuse.My screen was black.
So I select the failsafe mode and remove the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.
I try to copy my ubuntu 10.3 /etc/X11/xorg.conf,but I failed,the screen was black when booting default mode.
Now my LCD resolution is so low.
Graphics card:nVidia Geforce 5200
Monitor:19 inch widescreen LCD
And I can keep the best LCD resolution 1440x900@60Hz in the Windows XP successfully.
Running new installation of 11.3 with KDE Desktop. I have sorted out text appearance and size thanks to pwabrahams in another thread but I have a big problem with screen size/resolution.
In previous installation of 11.1 on the same machine I was able to change the resolution of the graphics in order to fit the windows on the screen more comfortably. I used to use something like 1240 x 1048 but in the System Settings > Computer Administration > Display the resolution is set at 832 x 624 and no higher resolutions are offered.
I cannot find out the details of the embedded graphics controller (10 year old Dell PE6300 server) but the system information report it as ATI Mach64 GI with swrast (No 3D acceleration) version 7.8.2. I have spent several hours reading the many pages on graphics in this forum and have concluded that I should probably be using a legacy driver but have no idea how to change the driver. Of course if it were possible to increase the resolution to 1240 X 1048 without recourse to changing driver that might do it if I knew what setting to tweak.
I'm running 10.10. I have a Nvidia GTX 460. My actual resolution is only 1024x768. I can't get the native resolution (1280x1024). Nvidia-settings does not show this resolution. Google hasn't helped at all so far, and I have installed the Nvidia Driver.

When I do get automatically login the screen resolution is changed to 800 x 600 instead of 1280 x 1024. How do I get those two (resolution and log in) settings sticky?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just installed Suse 11.3 64bit on a new build. My video card is a nvidia gt240. I am using the default drivers. My monitor is a NEC 17" LCD.
When I boot up the screen resolution defaults to 1280x1024. I can go to applications>configure desktop>display and set it to 1024x768, which is my resolution of choice, and it works until I reboot or log out and log back in, then it resets to 1280x1024.
I would like to make 1024x768 the default so I don't have to keep changing it. Is there a way to do this? The output of xrandr looks like this:

Every time I reboot, my screen resolution goes back to 800x600. Is there a way to permanently set it to what I want?
I'm running OpenSuSE 11.2 using KDE.
I have given up on trying to change the resolution on my old server with 11.3 installed because there is no easy way in 11.3 to change to 1024 x 768 x 64K colours to accomodate the inadequate memory of the on board display adaptor so I have reinstalled 11.2 which had gui for controlling display resolution.
I must keep my /home partition intact and therein, I suspect lies the problem because in the /home directory there are both .kde and .kde4 directories. Although immediately after installation of 11.2 (network install) kde 3.5 was running, after all the updates had run I ended up with kde 4.3.5 and therefore the same problem of not being able easily to change screen resolution. Is it possible to revert to earlier kde and how should I do this please? Another option I have still to try is to install a display adaptor card. The machine bios is supposed to turn off the integrated display controller if it detects one in a slot, but how do I get my operating system to find and install drivers for the new card?
I seem to recall earlier versions of Linux that allowed virtual screens larger than the physical screen that scrolled...I would really like this functionality because I am running on an Acer Aspire One, and I would really like to run Eclipse, and some windows in Eclipse crunch down and hide options I need. Is there a way to have my 1024x600 display operate as 1024x768? I am running openSUSE 11.2 and a pretty much default installation (KDE).

I went and downloaded the nvidia drivers and went to install the driver for my monitor through sax2. When I tried to add the monitor driver I would get out of range errors. I rebooted and can now set the resolution to 1680x1050 which is my max. However, when I go to test these new settings the resolution shown in the window is 1400x1050. Best resolution I can get after installing Nvidia drivers is 640x480, if I rename xorg.conf in an attempt to force auto-detection I get 1024x768. I've tried everything I can find on nvidia drivers for 11.3 like adding nomodeset to the menu.lst grub entry, setting no_kms_in_initrd to yes, definitely installing under runlevel 3 etc
Same thing happens, I can run nvidia-settings ok which I think suggests the driver is installed and initialised, nothing I try will let me use better than 1024x768. Same machine with 11.2 installed handles 1680x1050 perfectly

Now with Suse (32 bit) properly installed as the host the only resolutions are 1024X768 and below and I am stuck with 4:3 ratio. My PC is an Intel Atom D945GCLF2 which has integral graphics. The monitor is the VGA input of a Samsung TV.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am installing 11.2 on an older machine, Athlon 2800+, GeForce 6800, 1 GB RAM. Install goes fine until try to reboot to the OS and just get massive garbage on the screen. Can't see anything just lines crossing the screen, it seems almost like the resolution is way off but don't know how to change that since I can't see anything. I tried two different install disks to make sure not the problem and got the same thing with both. I tried installing both KDE and GNOME on separate occasions and still same problem. I have used the same install disk to put this on an even older machine and that went fine. I do have windows 7 installed on another partition. I'm fairly new to linux but I'm learning.

Suffering from the expected error in detecting my video properly when installed 11.3.Have intel 915G onboard video. Up until 11.1 Opensuse struggled with loading this correctly. in 11.1 & 11.2 all was well. A couple of minor tweaks in sax2 and it worked perfectly. Now hat sax2 has gone I'm not sure how to make these minor tweaks.
My problem is I have been forced to a screen resolution of 1024X768 VGA Following the readme file adding nomodeset at boot fixes the problem but of course forces me back to an old video driver with pretty poor performance. Is there any way I can change the screen resolution and set the correct monitor - any GUI replacement for sax2? Krandrtray will only let me set a max res of 1024x768. I need to set res to 1280x1024
I use normally opensuse 11.1. This days I installed the 11.3. Since I have installed it, the resolution is higher and the fonts are very small. I have some problems with my eyes, so I prefer to use text mode for startup and console. So now I dont know how I can get back to start system in textmode 80x25. suse seem to ignore every command I enter I tried in Yast grub settings to set there Text mode. I tried to add command vga-normal vga-0xF00. Nothing changes it. There is maybe a bug. Whay is the standard resulotion in 11.3 so high ? The installation works in textmode, but after first start it goes up.

Whatever resolution I choose, 1600x1200 is preferred, it is reset to a default of 1024x768 when I log out. I use the "Configure Desktop" option to set the resolution. I can find no other method to do so. The graphics adapter is an ATI hd3200. I have installed the fglrx driver. I cannot fine the "Control Center" for the driver. How do I make the selected resolution permanent?
I just installed 11.4 x64.I have already updated and installed the nvidia 260.19.36 driver via the nvidia repository. The video card is a GEforce 6200.The problem is the highest resolution it will allow is 1024x768.With the same hardware in 11.3 it was running 1920x1200. How can I get that back?
