I have a ML350 tha will not boot up. I noticed that my 1st drive of 5 is out. We ordered a new hot swap 72gb SAS drive and replaced it. When I boot the computer up it flashes green and I was wondering how long it takes to rebuild typically.
View 1 RepliesI have CentOS 5.5 installed and I'm having the problem of no display, though everything is working perfectly besides that. When I don't use the mouse for a while, the monitor flashes green, but then when I do finally move the mouse, the monitor turns solid green, just that no display is seen. How the situation came about is as follows. The display was working perfectly. I was trying to fix a friend's machine, so I unplugged the VGA cable from the back of the monitor (so that I can hook up the monitor to my friend's machine). Afterwards, when I re-plugged in the VGA cable from my linux machine to the monitor, I had no display.
Also, note that the machine is working perfectly. When I reboot, it boots up completely (I don't need to login as I turned this off) so I can ssh into it from another machine on my network. Another interesting point is that this linux machine is currently using a cheap graphics card and this is what the VGA cable is attached to on the back of the tower. However, the motherboard does have built-in graphics card, and I also tried hooking up the VGA cable to that... still no display. I should also mention that I tried testing the monitor by hooking it up to a laptop as an external monitor and it worked nicely. So the monitor is, in fact, working.
I try to install linux Slakware 8.0 on HP Proliant 350ML server. I can boot from the CD but then anytime I do fdisk /dev/sda I see a message that the hard drive cannot be accessed. Is there anyting I can do to secceed?

how I can slow down the error message, or, even better, fix it?
I installed 10.10 of the live boot CD. It said everything went fine, now when I go to boot into Linux it just flashes the underscore on a black screen. What do I do from here?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just finished updating my older box from 8.10 to 9.04 and installing a bunch of programs. I had shut it down several times between sessions but when I unplugged it and moved it, it fails. It goes fine through the BIOS and GRUB (I think) but then when there is a screen of text it flashes to black several times and then displays a screen that looks like static with "Ubuntu" barely visible in several places.

When I select <Other> to boot into windows... it starts to try to boot... but then flashes a quick blue screen & restarts. I tried to boot into Window's normal mode, safe mode, and command line... all just restart fdisk -l gives the following:

Upon boot up the usual little mouse splash boot is suppose to come up. Once I first installed it (10.10 via usb) the boot screen worked perfectly but after I updated via the update manager the boot splash became all static and green lines across the image. It still boots up to the login screen but it's just ugly looking at it.

^ and that's where it hangs. So I went into ctrl alt f1, and logged in with my user/pass, and did the command: startx the screen flashes, and brings me back to a failed to open devices report.

I tried re-installing GDM, but turns out that the PC isn't actually online, hence unable to install GDM after uninstallation. So I downloaded the gdm .deb, and tried to install it from a USB flash drive, but I get dependency errors. I'm at a loss here, I could really use some help, this is the PC that has all my data on it, 450 GB +, I'd love to not have to transfer that over to a new installation!
I did something unknown and now I have no Green Gecko button on my bottom tool bar. I cannot pull up the program menus and I can't add it as a widget. I have tried rebooting, no luck. How do I replace the Green Gecko Widget?

Using a terminal shell and entering ls -l, all the files in the user /home/user1 appear with a green block background. The files in /home/user2 have standard Linux colors. What does the green block mean?

I have an NVidia SE6150 Graphic Card and i have tried to configure the startup parameter vga=0x317, i have changed this to vga=0 to get vesa mode but that doesn't work, i have an wide screen monitor that supports 24 bit and 1360x768.
Iam tring to install 11.4 on my new computer, when i start the computer the green screen pops up and syslinux starts. However when it finishes loading a dialog box pops up saying "Make sure that cd number 1 is in your drive" . Obviously it it is,

OpenSUSE seems to have an issue picking up and working with my newer webcam. This webcam does work with linux, it works with Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid and Linux Mint 9 Isadora but openSUSE 11.3 doesnt seem to like it. Information about webcam drivers seems to be missing now, I tried the drivers repo but no luck. Cheese freezes and WXcam comes up with a green screen with no video. This is a gateway product by my understanding but it seems to be linux compatible, especially with the Linux 2.6.34 kernel that both Ubuntu and openSUSE use right now. But for some reason its not quite clicking with openSUSE 11.3
View 1 Replies View Relatedeverytime I try to shutdown/reboot, it gets to the screen where it has the green/bold status messages on the side, but then it simply stops. The cursor doesn't blink, nothing happens...you could wait 10 minutes, and it would still be at that same screen. I don't know if I've described this well enough for anyone to understand, but I hope so! I don't have a camera, but if I did...I'd post a picture of where I mean...
But like I said, after getting to a certain, without actually shutting down, it simply stops and does absolutely nothing. This is rather inconvenient, and I'd like to find a solution to this if possible. EDIT: I'm sorry I didn't provide any hardware info, but I'm using Gnome...This didn't happen 100% of the time KDE like it does now though. (But it DID happen in KDE as well) I'm using OpenSUSE 11.2... I'll be back in a moment with hardware info, assuming it may aid in a solution.

I can configure my software's appearance? Well, for the KDM theme, the Grub Bootsplash, i can download themes people so generously create. I however, desire the BOOTSPLASH. or whatever it is, of openSUSE 11.1. the green with white veins in the background, and a strip of black running horizontally across, with "openSUSE" written on it in white. i mean the one that masks the initial Text interface, the FIRST GUI you see after GRUB. The one that also shows when you power down. Is this a plausible endevour? I do have my 11.1 iso, in case it's stored as a theme in there.

I'm trying to install on HP ML 350 F13 G6 with standard array controller and 3 drives in raid 5. Well, when the installation process get the screen that shows the files copied (all copied...) , it freezes and does not advance more. Perhaps groped a firmware update? Other distributions are installed correctly.

After installation process finished, laptop booted up and I had a green screen, no icons and a mouse cursor. REALLY liked the way the OS performed on the LIVECD and would like to give it a real shot.I can install Fedora 11, Ubuntu, Madriva and Mint Linux with no problem on the same Toshiba laptop.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy mouse flickers in and out when I move it and a small pix elated square surrounds it. I can still click and highlight and preform mouse actions. I was playing about in the Appearance settings and I had come over to the mouse pad of the custom theme window. I tried changing the mouse and it only changed some icons of the mouse. To make it work and show all the new icons for the cursor, i used this command:

I then changed "Inherits=DMZ-White" to "Inherits=DMZ-Black". I logged out and back in and that's when my problem started. It shows the new mouse but i have that glitchy square and it flickers. I've tried switching back but it didn't change anything.

The screen flashes on bootup and makes it very hard if not impossible to login and the gnome menu at the top is gone too. I do not know what he did to it. But I am loading meego on it now.
I am running openSUSE 11.2 with KDE4.5 on my eMachines e525. I just did a "zypper up" on my system and it reported that Chromium was going to be updated. I agreed and the when the update was finished I shut down Chromium and started it again. It flickered on the screen for a moment and crashed. I tried again but it produced the same thing. I logged off and back in and tried Chromium again... same thing. I restarted and tried... same again!
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running a Latitude E4300 with the Intel 4500HD integrated graphics. Lately, the display has started to flash on and off several times an hour. Usually all I have to do is move the mouse or hit a key, and the display comes back (the back light is on when this happens).
Once and awhile, my monitor goes into standby when this happens, but if I turn the LCD (a Dell 2007FP) off and back on, the display is back. This happens when using the internal LCD at 1280x800 or my external monitor hooked up via E-Dock.
I've tried a couple different monitors, and they all work fine. I have another hard drive for this machine that I have Windows 7 loaded on, and it works for hours and hours without exhibiting any video related errors.
my screen flashes when I load anything. am I frying my vid card?
