How to install OpenSUSE at IBM X3400. Or How to make driver for
LSI Megaraid SAS
ServerRAID M1015 SAS/SATA Controller
How to load the driver for this SAS+SATA controller during install, I tried loading the supplied 5.0.5 driver from LSI but it appears that the options in the provided list do not provide actual support for the 5.0.7 release. Anyone having luck with the 9280 controller. I checked kernel.org and saw that supports is getting added for the upstream release of the kernel but wonder if anyone was able to workout a patch for the present Debian kernel in order to install the driver as the OS loads.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince "upgrading" to 11.4 with KDE desktop my machine is becoming difficult to wake up. After a period of inactivity the disks power down and would power up as soon as I started a program or selected say; Dolphin from the desktop.
Now if I click on an icon I get the bouncing ball for a while and then nothing. The bouncing icon just disappears. I cannot get programs to run and this evening had to restart, which did respond. Before it shut down all the programs I had tried and failed to start proceeded to start, only to be stopped again by the shut down.
This didn't happen with 11.2. Cannot be sure it is software related but are there any checks I can do or is there a sure fire way to wake the machine up?
I am installing openSUSE 11.4 on a Supermicro Quad core board with a pci-e LSI megaraid card and the installation goes through fine but once the pc reboots and boot off the hard drive a boot error occurs now i installed openSUSE 11.2 and all is well. What is wrong in 11.4.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWe are trying to install Fedora 10 [Fedora-10-i386-DVD.iso] on IBM X3400 server and the specs for IBM X3400 server are
Intel Xeon 5405 (Quad Core) / 2.0 Ghz / 12 MB / 1333 Mhz / 4GB Memory / 2* 250 GB
SATA / DVD Writter/ Keyboard, Optical Mouse
The following are the issues we are facing with the install.
1. First time, install hanged with message "booting from anaconda"
2. Second time, tried the boot option "linux vesa". When the system re-booted, the mouse and keyboard were not working.
Ever since Linux kernels beyond 2.6.24.3, I've been unable to boot my HP Netserver LH3. It gives a kernel panic with a variety of messages that always include
"common_interrupt+0x38/0x39"
I tried everything from updating the BIOS and firmware, to myriads of differing kernel configurations (at 4 hours per compile, imagine the agony).
I also tried booting with every combination of the kernel boot parameters acpi=off, noapic, nolapic, irqpoll, etc., that I could imagine. No dice. In final desperation, I began unplugging PCI cards one by one before finally disconnecting the SDLT drive from the Netraid SCSI. It seems that in later kernels or versions of udev, sharing the SCSI bus with the LH3 drives causes conflicts. I have an additional AHA SCSI card in the machine, so will try connecting the SDLT to that and see how it goes.
Problem with megaraid controller and Dell2850, all that I can see on this screenshot: [URL]. All drives successfully passed verifying from LSI controllers (Ctrl+A at startup), also I tried to boot from rescue live cd and mount all the mirrored drives and check it by fsck - ok.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have installed openSUSE 11.4, and I really like it compared to other linux versions I've tried, but I find it requires a bit more linux know-how.
Being fairly new to linux, it has been quite the effort to learn but I started getting the hang of things via online support and such. Lately I've been having some problems.
I need linux to run a TCAD program, and it requires some openGL functionality and was giving me errors when I tried entering the software related modeling GUI.
Anyhow, I thought it had to do with my graphics drivers, so I decided to update them via ATI proprietary driver. After doing this, the system booted me into the console rather than X.
I tried numerous online guides on how to fix the issues, by running all sorts of boot commands (nomodset), and I read the graphics driver theory, as well as trouble shooting ATI graphics.
In the process, I also installed a radeonhd-xorg11-something through YAST, and that caused a black screen altogether upon boot. I managed to boot into failsafe with x, and from there I removed it via YAST, however this did not resolve issues. I also deleted any xorg.cionf files in hopes that the system will default back to the radeon driver.
As it stands right now, I can only boot into my system via failsafe mode. I'm keeping the unit off for now as it's probably tired from all the hard reboots I had to do . If someone can help me resolve this issue, I can turn it on and enter any commands required, such as finding out the graphics card, the kernel, the driver currently running, etc and I can post it here.
I can't get the drivers to work in mswin. The files won't show. Doesn't recognize the drive in the list. Are there suse drivers? So I get the pics off the phone.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter installing 11.3, I realised that my graphic driver is not working as desired. I have a Compaq CQ60-430SA laptop with an NVIDIA 8200M graphics card. Earlier with 11.2, I had some proprietary NVidia drivers and my graphics were smooth. However, I am not getting the same performance with Nouveau...
As can be seen from the screen clipping below, the images especially in the preview mode and the icons look jarred (highlighted in red). I have no complains with the video but the images and icons do look shabby at times and therefore I want to switch over to the proprietary NVidia drivers.

I need to install the latest drivers for my Nvidia card. I have the Quadro FX 1800.I don't think the Nvidia One click installation will work with this card.I downloaded the drivers from Nvidia and tried to install them but their directions are very confusing. I Xubuntu, it automatically picked it up and prompted me to use the nVidia drivers. It also added the nVidia PPA to the Software Sources. Does openSuSE have anything like this?

Im thinking of getting a new machine-the only thing is a lot pc's these days ship with ati cards rather than nvidia cards. View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm new -and inexperienced- Suse user, I have a new laptop with an ATI 5650 graphic card. I have been using the Radeon driver with very low performance for a while. this driver was installed following the "Xorg -configure" procedure as descibed in the forum. Today I installed the newly released driver from Ati. this is what I did:
1) in /etc/X11/xorg.conf I changed "radeon" with "fglrx"
2) I run the driver downloaded from the ATI website
3) I run the command "aticonfig --initial"
I'm no longer able to start the X server (the computer boots to full console) and I have no idea how to go forward. if I give the command "startx" I get a "segmentation error" and I go back to console can somebody point me in the right direction?
As you can see from a thread`s title,my graphical environment KDE has gone after the following simple steps in "Installing ATI drivers" thread of Advanced FAQ. After rebooting, it shows me only console, which asks login and password. how can I bring things back and actually install ATI driver..?
