Hardware :: IRQ / Interrupt Conflict With MegaRAID

Feb 3, 2010

Ever since Linux kernels beyond 2.6.24.3, I've been unable to boot my HP Netserver LH3. It gives a kernel panic with a variety of messages that always include
"common_interrupt+0x38/0x39"
I tried everything from updating the BIOS and firmware, to myriads of differing kernel configurations (at 4 hours per compile, imagine the agony).

I also tried booting with every combination of the kernel boot parameters acpi=off, noapic, nolapic, irqpoll, etc., that I could imagine. No dice. In final desperation, I began unplugging PCI cards one by one before finally disconnecting the SDLT drive from the Netraid SCSI. It seems that in later kernels or versions of udev, sharing the SCSI bus with the LH3 drives causes conflicts. I have an additional AHA SCSI card in the machine, so will try connecting the SDLT to that and see how it goes.

Debian Installation :: How To Load Drivers For MegaRAID SAS 9280-24i4e

Dec 13, 2010

How to load the driver for this SAS+SATA controller during install, I tried loading the supplied 5.0.5 driver from LSI but it appears that the options in the provided list do not provide actual support for the 5.0.7 release. Anyone having luck with the 9280 controller. I checked kernel.org and saw that supports is getting added for the upstream release of the kernel but wonder if anyone was able to workout a patch for the present Debian kernel in order to install the driver as the OS loads.

OpenSUSE Install :: Grub Is Not Working - Re-install Vista?

Nov 9, 2010

I have a dell E6400, which I picked up recently 2nd hand. Previous owners had Win 7 evaluation version on it, which had expired. Originally the machine had Vista Business on it and Lic Key intact. I installed Opensuse on without problems whilst waiting for the original Vista disc to make it's way to me - forgot to pick it up with the machine.

I now want to get rid of the expired Win 7 and re-install Vista, but the grub is only giving me the option of Windows, Opensuse, Opensuse Safe and Floppy. My machine only has a cd/dvd drive and when I've selected this the dvd has started, but then it looks like it defaults back to Opensuse which goes so far then freezes. No obvious way for me to reinstall vista. This may of course be a completely daft question to ask, but I've looked at this for an hour or so and can't figure it out...?

OpenSUSE Install :: OpenSUSE And Different Ram Speeds Working Together

Oct 22, 2010

I'm not sure if this is an OS issue but openSUSE wont boot with two different ram speeds. I've got two 1gb 667Mhz RAM and tried one of 800Mhz. So the idea was to get 3gb (1gb 667Mhz + 2gb 800Mhz).After GRUB starts nothing happens (at least on screen).By the way I also tried the 800Mhz RAM alone and it worked so it's ok.Why openSUSE (11.3) can't boot with these two different RAM memories?

OpenSUSE :: One Click Install From 11.3 Not Working?

Aug 9, 2010

I'm using OpenSuse 11.3 Gnome I'm having trouble installing new packages from the One Click Installs of Software Open Suse and from Packman. I get the following error each time. The install link or file you opened does not contain instructions for this version of openSUSE.

Having done a new install of Open Suse 11.3 I'm trying to get back to using Mplayer and Cairo-dock, just to mention two packages. Is the version 11.3 still too new, or is there a fault in the auto installs of 11.3? I have managed to download the rpm of Cairo-dock but the Cairo-dock-plugins have dependency problems which I presume should be resolved using the One Click Install - when it works.

OpenSUSE Install :: KDM Login To KDE Not Working In 11.4

May 27, 2011

I have a newly installed openSUSE 11.4 (several reinstalls actually) which will not login to KDE (Plasma Desktop) from the KDM menu. When trying, the background image of KDM flickers a bit and I can see a hint of the bottom panel contours before it disappears again and only the KDM background image is shown. I have the right click menu working and also I can see started applications when alt+tabbing as white squares on the screen but no plasma desktop appears. It's as if the KDM background image blocks the desktop behind it.

If I switch to a console and init 3, log in as root and then run startx...the KDE Plasma Desktop loads and works brilliantly, but I cannot do this as a non root user.Logging in to IceVM from KDM works as a normal user.I figured this could be some kind of permissions issue so I tried creating a new user but I had no luck with that either. Does someone have any tips on how to solve this problem or a way to troubleshoot it?

OpenSUSE Install :: The Alternate Consoles Not Working?

I am neither sure what these are called not if this is the proper place to report the problem, please let me know if there is a better place. The consoles that should ne invoked using CTRL-ATL-F1...Fx are simply not there or cause my OpenSUSE 11.2 64-bit to crash. If I hit a combination like CTRL-ALT-F3 (say), my screen goes completely black (there is absolutely nothing on screen), not only that I cannot return to X (using Gnome, if that makes a difference), none of the CTRL-ALT-Fx work after that and I must do a hardware reset.

OpenSUSE Install :: Manage To Get The LiveCD Working?

Jan 22, 2010

I recently downloaded the i686 11.2 and right before it seems as though the Live CD is going to load, with the cursor and the black screen present, it takes me straight to 'linux login'. It states that runlevel 5 has been reached, the failed services in runlevel 5 are postfix and the skipped services are nfs if that's of any significance. I have no idea where to start; looking around it looks as though this is a graphics card issue. My laptop has Intel X3100 integrated video. How can I manage to get the LiveCD working?

(Also, if let it sit at the login for a while, it says "usr/sbin/stop_preload: line 4: /usr/bin/killall: Input/Output error)

OpenSUSE Install :: Can't Get Xgi/sis Graphics Card Working

Jul 30, 2010

I have a z9 volari Graphics card that opensuse 1.2 is recognising but the xgi driver is not present. I get the following when I startx:

auth: creating new authority file /root/.serverauth.4650

X.Org X Server 1.6.5
Release Date: 2009-10-11
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: openSUSE SUSE LINUX

[Code]....

Perhaps my last post about this was too long and hence why nobody responded. So i will try and keep it simple and let the experts advise me.

I have tried installing an rpm that I got from rpm search. Namely xorg-x11-driver-video-xgi-1.5.0-6.1.i586 which seemed to install but when I did a query it said it was not installed, but when I tried to do an install again it said it was already installed ??

There is also a file called xserver-xorg-video-sis_0.9.3.orig.tar.gz which i got from this site. I have not managed to extract it properly yet but will look into that myself. It appears to have in it a makefile, so I presume it is source files and I could really do with some help in that.

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.4 Screen Display Not Working Any More ?

Apr 22, 2011

I recently upgraded to suse11.4 and everything worked fine for a few months. Suddenly after logging in (GUI - LXDE desktop) the background screen is all what I can see and no menus, not even right click opens anything. Same in KDE desktop. All I can do is throw myself out with Ctrl Alt and F1. startx returns that the server is already running. All I can do is using (as root) "rm -rf /tmp/X0-lock" and then "startx --:1". That opens the GUI but only as root. What can I do that I can log in normally again? By the way I tried to reinstall but I only get to loading drivers and then everything stops.
