View 2 Repliesi can find this Hardware for Linux - Compaq Computer (by ATI Technologies) / Proliant Rage XL but where do i download these drivers?
View 2 RepliesI forced my workplace to forgo windows and opt for linux for web and mail server. I'm setting up Centos 5.4 on it and I ran into a problem. The server machine is a HP Proliant DL120 G5 (quad core processor, 4GB Ram, two SATA drives, 150GB each attached to the hardware RAID Controller on board). RAID is enabled in the BIOS.I pop in the Centos disk and go through the installation process.
When I get to the stage where I partition my hard drive,it is showing one hard drive, not as traditional sda.but as mapper/ddf1_4035305a86a354a45.I looked around and figured that I need to give Centos the raid drivers. I downloaded it from:
[URL]
I follow the instructions and download the aarahci-1.4.17015-1.rhel5.i686.dd.gz file and unzipped it using gunzip. Then on another nix system, i do this:
dd if=aarahci-1.4.17015-1.rhel5.i686.dd of=/dev/sdb bs=1440k Note that I am using a usb floppy drive, hence the sdb. After that, during centos setup, i type: linux updates dd
It asks me where the driver is located. I tell it and the installation continues in the graphical mode. But I still get mapper/ddf1_4035305a86.a354a45 as my drive. I tried to continue to install centos on it. It was successfull but when i do a "df -h" it gives me /dev/mapper/ddf1_4035305a86......a354a45p1 as /boot
/dev/mapper/ddf1_4035305a86......a354a45p2 as /
/dev/mapper/ddf1_4035305a86......a354a45p3 as /var
/dev/mapper/ddf1_4035305a86......a354a45p4 as /external
/dev/mapper/ddf1_4035305a86......a354a45p5 as /swap
/dev/mapper/ddf1_4035305a86......a354a45p6 as /home
Well i know why it's giving these, because i set it up that way, but i was hoping it would somehow change to the normal /dev/sda, /dev/sdb. That means that the driver i provided did not work. I have another IBM server (5U) with raid scsi drive and it shows the usual /dev/sda. It also has hardware raid. So i know that there is something wrong with the /dev/mapper/ddf1_4035305a86......a354a45p1 format.
First, is there any way that I can put the aarahci-1.4.17015-1.rhel5.i686.dd (floppy image) on a CD?. I really need to set this up with raid. I know i could simply disable raid in bios and then i would get two normal hard drives sda and sdb. But it has to be a raid setup. Any way to slipstream the driver into the centos dvd? The hp link i provided above, under installation instructions, there are some instructions titled "Important". But I couldn't get it to work.
I have a machine dell optiplex gx240 quite old machine but great for being my secondary machine and running ubuntu on it however i cannot find a graphic driver? its an ati rage 128 pro , 32mb ram graphic card! i have a 21,5 inch monitor with a native 1920x1080 i know its a lot but it actualy works just no effects are available and some lag occurs! i have been googling for few hours cant come up with a solution! i did find this but dont know what to do with it :[url]

MY Setup:
Two 1Ghz Pentium III (Coppermine)
1GB Ram
8.9GB Hotswap HDD
In a Dell Poweredge 2550 (I think it doesn't say on the case)
Ubuntu 10.10 (Installed Via remote boot - Has gnome GUI, LAMP, Apache etc.)
I would like to play some games on this server to take advantage of the CPU's (the fastest I have) The Graphics card can display up to 1152x864 so It should be able to handle some 3d gaming but it I try to play tux racer it is very slow and only changes the frame every second, must be very low FPS also glxgears gives me in-between 50 and 60 fps and most people seem to get 500+!
The problem is not compiz because it is no-longer installed and I think I am using the open-source ati drivers not fglx.
I want to install Suse 11.3 on a Proliant server. I thought not to take the obvious Windows CD's (little sorrow now) and try Linux. I used an USB Live CD to start. I tried all the startup options like apci=off and so on. Also tried lower resolutions and VESA. Still no luck. After running and starting (seeing in ALT-F4 the Kernel loading), all ALT screens get a blank black screen. Only option is to restart, while then SUSE is displaying it is going down.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI've recently been messing with installing Fedora 14 an older computer I have and I've hit a snag. While everything else seems to be just honky dory, I cant get the screen resolution to go higher than 848x480. I know that the screen I'm using supports at least 1024x768 (possibly higher, i don't know) as another computer I have will display at that on it with no problem.
I've spent literally hours mucking about with xrandr, and xorg.conf (had to create it cause it didn't exist)As an addendum: the GUI monitor preferences screen says "Unknown" for the monitor I'm using, where as the xorg.conf file i created accurately detects it as Vendor "NEC" ModelName "PX-50VP" That's not really a big deal though, just a minor quirk I would think.
after few years being limited with my pc configuration (windows OS) I realized that linux or it's distributions is the best invention in 21 century. And finally I am starting use it. openSUSE 11.4 installaition succesful, I updated it and it looks I don;t have any problems, but I got few questions.
1. How install older version of mozilla firefox internet browser here? I can't install some plugins because it's a firefox beta 12 version, for example. I am quake fan, o I like play quake live, but i can't install quake plugin, because my firefox is beta version.
2. Does I got all drivers instantly installed to my mashine? ATI video drivers, sound drivers ect??
3. Are there any How-To guides which can teach me, how I can improve my desktop? gadgets, 3D desktop ect...?
I verify in Intel site that my Intel'drivers are outdated, because Dell Suport is slow, so how do I update them in Opensuse?
Do I use Virtual Machine or try through Wine?
I have recently obtained a dell 725 printer but it the drivers do not seem to be available when I try to configure it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have installed openSUSE 11.4, and I really like it compared to other linux versions I've tried, but I find it requires a bit more linux know-how.
Being fairly new to linux, it has been quite the effort to learn but I started getting the hang of things via online support and such. Lately I've been having some problems.
I need linux to run a TCAD program, and it requires some openGL functionality and was giving me errors when I tried entering the software related modeling GUI.
Anyhow, I thought it had to do with my graphics drivers, so I decided to update them via ATI proprietary driver. After doing this, the system booted me into the console rather than X.
I tried numerous online guides on how to fix the issues, by running all sorts of boot commands (nomodset), and I read the graphics driver theory, as well as trouble shooting ATI graphics.
In the process, I also installed a radeonhd-xorg11-something through YAST, and that caused a black screen altogether upon boot. I managed to boot into failsafe with x, and from there I removed it via YAST, however this did not resolve issues. I also deleted any xorg.cionf files in hopes that the system will default back to the radeon driver.
As it stands right now, I can only boot into my system via failsafe mode. I'm keeping the unit off for now as it's probably tired from all the hard reboots I had to do . If someone can help me resolve this issue, I can turn it on and enter any commands required, such as finding out the graphics card, the kernel, the driver currently running, etc and I can post it here.
Have an HP Proliant DL360 server on which I plan install Fedora 12.
I need to download the NIC driver from HP's site - but it asks which operating system - and Fedora is not on the list. However, many variants of Red Hat Enterprise Linux are on the list.
What is a good choice for OS that would match up with Fedora?
I've installed both Fedora 15 x64 and Fedora 14 x64 on an HP Proliant DL380 G4 with the HP SmartArray SCSI controller, 2x146GB UW320 SCSI drives. The server was running RH v4 with a hardware RAID 1 with uptime of 400+ days with no issues.I broke the HW RAID and made 2x volumes and software RAID. I have another identical server with 4x 146GB UW320 SCSI drives with Fedora 12 x64 and SW RAID, so I figured 14/15 should be the same process. What happens is the server runs great for a while, but when I leave it for a few hours, it becomes non-responsive. I've re-installed 15 and 14 multiple times now and also installed NRPE, which shows load increasing to the point to where the server is non-responsive. It hits high load levels (as reported by NRPE). The load levels appear to be increasing over time. Such as last night:
log off at midnight, load average 0/0/0
2:03 am - WARNING - load average: 9.91, 8.85, 6.75
3:03 am - WARNING - load average: 16.91, 15.86, 14.47

I am about to install ubuntu 10.04 to our DL160 g6 servers with p410 raid card. From the ubuntu validated hardware list, I can see that this hardware is validated to only 9.04. : [URL]..Nearly all other models are validated to 10.04. Have anyone tried using dl160 g6 with 10.04? What kind of problems we might face while trying?

I have a problem installing Ubuntu on an HP Proliant ML115. This server has a 1TB mirrored RAID setup (and 1 250GB drive), problem is, Ubuntu apparently doesnt like it, it detects the RAID but fails to partition the hard drives and the installation cant continue. I got my hands on my first real server hardware yesterday - a PIII 600 MHz COMPAQ Proliant 3000 with 1.8 GB RAM, Smart Array 3200 controller and 4x18.2GB SCSI ULTRA 3 hard drives. RAM is upgraded from original and USB card added - otherwise hardware arrangement appears to be original.
Minimal 10.04 installed (35 minutes boot to boot) as Server 10.04 could not detect CD drive. My problem? Everything works but it does not look right. Probably my bigger problem?? I know almost nothing about RAID and the more I read the more ethereal my understanding seems to become.
When installing, I chose to install with LVM on c0d0. Grub written to MBR. I have posted df -l, fdisk -l and lshw output below. Would someone tell me if this looks correct and, possibly, offer some pointers if it does not.

installing Ubuntu 10.04 on a HP Proliant DL180 G6, especially via the LO100 virtual KVM? I can boot almost any linux distro with it, but unfortunately whenever I boot the Ubuntu server cd the screen gets garbled. I did some searching on the net, and found some references to older versions of Ubuntu where one had to add vga=771 to the boot options, but this still doesn't work with 10.04. I tried several vga modes, all to no avail (with vga=normal the screen gets garbled, with anything else the screen just stays black). Anyone got any idea on how to fix this?

I have been loading Red Hat OS 5.5 x86_64 version in HP's Proliant DL 380 G7. One of the Server's after triggering the iLO and setting the Server to the determine the hostname so that, it can check the eth0 settings and then it probes for the video adapter, the screen goes completely blue and the characters that are on the screen at this point are not readable at all..Looks like to me the screen is throwing the system characters completely leaving no trace of what's going on. The screen is blue with those characters and the server is freezing...Looks like a hardware iLO issue, but not sure. When I restarted the server, it picked up the PXE boot and loaded windows upto the serial key and all that loading process was readable.

I have downloaded the "debian-7.8.0-amd64-netinst.iso" from the official website. I then used dd to create a bootable usb stick. The usb stick is detected by the HP Proliant server but it does not boot from it, even if no other OS is present (so boot order is not the problem, and even if it was, i checked the bios). I tried the original iso in a Virtualbox environment and it worked without a problem.
I then tried creating the usb stick in Windows using "Unetbootin" and "LinuxLive Creator". When I insert the stick into the HP this time it boots from it and all is good. I can not use this approach though, because I want to automate the installation until I can SSH onto the server. But somehow unetbootin and linuxlivecreator overwrite my modified debian isos preseed file (which also works perfectly on a Virtualmachine).I also used dd to create a Ubuntu usb stick and that works without a problem on the HP Proliant.
By way of background: I've been using Linux since kernel 0.97.something_or_the_other, but I've been using one of the other distros. This is my first crack at Redhat/Fedora.
I'm trying to install Fedora 10 on an old Compaq Proliant 3000, dual P-II 450, Compaq Smartarray 3200, plenty of drive space, 3C905 based NIC, original Compaq CD drive.
The install will boot from the CD just fine, I get the initial graphic menu to select whether to do an install, upgrade, etc.
I select option 1 to install and I get what looks like an ncurses based screen that asks me to select a language, another screen that asks for a keyboard, then a screen that asks me if I want to install from CD/DVD, NFS, local drive, etc.
If I select the CD install option, the next screen complains that it can't find a drive and asks me to either select a driver from a list of drivers or to insert a driver disk. Doesn't matter what driver I select, it always snaps immediately back to the screen that says it can't find the hardware to match the driver. Every time it does this, it's not spinning the CD to read the driver that I've selected.
IF I go for an NFS install, after it asks me the network parms I wind up at that same driver screen with the same results, no matter what I pick it throws me back to the can't find hardware/pick a driver screen. As far as I can tell, the NIC is never actually trying to wake up.
I know the hardware is functional because if I boot from from CD with my usual distro it identifies and starts all the hardware just fine, CD, NIC, RAID, etc.
I can see where it might work to have the necessary driver module for the CD on a floppy, but where do I get the module? I tried mounting the .iso images for the install set on another machine but I don't see anything obvious that looks like modules that I can cabbage onto.
