View 2 Replies View RelatedOn a Fedora 11 machine, I configured ppp0 on eth0 and ppp1 on eth1, each one is connected to a modem, I also defined ppp0 as the default gateway.. Should I do anything else to load balance the 2 connections or will ppp1 take some of the load by default? Should I add any other routing rules? If yes then please tell me what should I add, keeping in mind that for each pppoe connection both the pppoe address and the remote address are not static so I actually needed some scripting to change the default gateway each time the remote pppoe address changes.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy adsl modem is in bridge mode. I can connect to internet via pppoe . pppoeconf recognise the pppoe in eth0 and setup a connection and I can use it. How can I setup a pppoe connection using pppoeconf so that it uses wireless ? I set the wireless mode to bridge in modem settings. But, after that the access point stopped appearing in "aps in range" in network manager and I can't connect to it. pppoeconf also doesn't recognise wlan0 as a valid pppoe link . but dat is normal since i don't think it can check if wlan0 is pppoe without wlan0 being connected to the modem's wireless network. How can I connect to Internet with modem in bridge mode and connections via wireless interface of modem? Is pppoe over wireless even possible ? coz the datalink layer of wlan is not ethernet rite?

When I do pppoe-start, it connected but I cannot ping into any destination (even to my modem in the same network). DNS servers are explicitly set in pppoe.conf and resolv.conf. Did I miss anything?

I installed openSUSE a couple of weeks ago but didn't use it until 2 days ago. It was the latest version when I installed it.To my surprise there wasn't a gcc or pppoe installed. Or at least there wasn't a command line begging with ppp.I tried to install them both with rpms. I think I got them both, just they don't work very well. In particular rp-pppoe doesn't work at all. It says that there's no modem on eth0, which is very true there's only a eth cable. gcc seems to work but I'm not sure I installed all the dependencies.I can't use yast because of lack of internet. I have to reboot to windows and download rpms.Can you give me a work around? At least for the pppoe then it might fix itself. Can I have some EXACT links to rpms or another solution?

The provider here sometimes goes through some problems and the connection may disappear and return at any unexpected moment. In Windows there is a icon on system tray that dysplays such information and I know when the connection is gone. It also allows me to try to reconnect manually. Where do I find these information on Opensuse here do I manage to reconnect. In Windows it was also possible to set the connection to re-dial automatically when it was out. It was very useful if it failed in the middle of a download, the system reconnected and the download manager retried until download resumed. Is there some way to adjust opensuse to reconnect automatically when connection fails or some software that does it? Furthermore, is there a good download manager that works in Opensuse that pause, accelerates downloads and retries when connection fails?
I need to implement at my sister this kind of connection: She is connected on Local area network that has about 50-80 pc's, but for internet access she must start an pppoe connection. For now when she wants to use lan she must put her local address (ps: they dont have dhcp), for pppoe she uses dhcp. Problem is that on that way she can't access lan and internet at the same time. She must disconnect from lan and then start pppoe connection and vice versa. I'm intrested if it is possible to have lan access at the same time as internet access. some kind of tunel through lan up to isp. I was googling little and so PPPoE tunneling. Is it that what I need here?
View 9 Replies View Relatedi'm using opensuse 11.3 and can't connect to the internet, my eth0 interface (which would be my modem i suppose) is found and when i "activate" it with ifup eth0, it gets stuck waiting for data (says so in ifstatus). If i try with knetworkmanager it is also stuck and doesn't connect to eth0. If i try to make it connect at boot, it doesn't work either.
I think the problem might be that in windows xp my modem has a "limited connection" but i can connect with my pppoe password anyway, but opensuse won't let me connect until it finds eth0 is working correctly which it never will because of how the internet company configures the modems i think. I don't know with which command i could "force" the pppoe connection even without a good connection to the modem, maybe that would work. But on the other hand, with other distros i can connect just fine so i don't know really.
Is it fair to say that connLimit and hashlimit are very similiar on Linux i.e. while hashlimit caters to limits for groups of ports, they both set the connection rate limit per host? How in IPTables, do I configure a policy that limits connections on a port that encapsulates the total sum of all connections from all hosts? i.e. I do not want to allow more than 6000conn/minute for port range that is the sum of all connecting hosts?

Now I can not set because the network connection to the Internet Connection is inactive. I mention that before the update was functional internet connection.
View 5 Replies View RelatedIm trying to setup multiple domU through the default bridge setup. I am able to access only one of them through the network at a time. If you ping one of the domU it works perfectly but you cannot ping any of the others until you stop pinging the one and even then it takes a bit before you can. Ive looked around for a while and seen similar problems but nothing ever seems quite the same. Im probably missing something really stupid. Or is this the way the bridge is supposed to behave? Do i need to use a routed virtual network?

With new installs of openSuse 11.4 I've hit a printer problem. I can run hp-setup (or hp-toolbox) for the wireless Officejet j6410 and it is recognised. The right driver is selected. Then when I choose add printer it all falls over with the error message: error: Printer queue setup failed. Could not connect to CUPS Server Is user added to "lp" group(s) error: Fax queue setup failed. Please restart CUPS and try again.
The user is added to the lp group. I have this problem with my 64 bit desktop and 32 bit laptop installs of 11.4, it all worked perfectly in 11.2. I've used the Cups web interface to set up the printer now and can print from both machines, but I would prefer to use the hp-toolbox, which has several convenient features. Where do I go from here?

Edit-i went into the gnome network manager applet and i cant find any IPv6 settings for any of my used connections-ethernet, wireless and VPN connections all seem to only IPv4. Can anyone else confirm that opensuse 11.2 uses only IPv4 on its network connections?

Setup: Notebook with openSUSE 11.2 using KDE 4. Using Network Manager to manage network connection (although I've tried configuring this using ifup as well with no luck).
I need to be able to connect to client networks via a network cable (Ethernet) and connect to the internet via my MiFi 2200 Mobile WiFi. Both cards/connections are active with the following:
I have no problem mounting drives from the client's network. But, can not reach the internet. If I disconnect the ethernet cable, the browser will immediately connect to the internet and load web pages.
I'm assuming the ethernet connection is taking precedence over the wireless connection?
I can't imagine that there is not a way to set this up. If Windows can do it, I'm sure openSUSE can!
Just wonder is there any command that blocks all connections?
I am aware about RedHat #sudo /sbin/services iptables panic
and wonder is there something with similar effect in opensuse?
I'm running suse 11.1 which is configured as a router. Configured are two DSL connections with static IP's and one LAN connection (3 NIC's all together).
Problem: suse firewall will only port forward connections from one of the DSL connections and not the other.
Because I'm running two DSL connections is there something special I have to turn on/enable on the firewall?
