OpenSUSE Hardware :: Dialing USB Modem - Getting No Carrier Detected On Wvdial - Qinternet
Jul 17, 2011
I have a usb modem(A phone): Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E220 HSDPA Modem / E230/E270 HSDPA/HSUPA Modem It is recognized by Yast under modems. But I am getting No carrier detected on wvdial, qinternet and many I have tried with. Here is the output:
I am trying to use a ZTE AC2726 USB EVDO Modem on openSuSE Linux 11.3 to connect to the internet.
I have edited the /etc/wvdial.conf file as follows [Dialer Defaults] Modem = /dev/ttyUSB0 Baud = 460800 Init1 = ATZ Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 Init3 = Area Code = Phone = # 777 Username =card Password =mypassword Ask Password = 0 Dial Command = ATDT Stupid Mode = 1 Compuserve = 0 Force Address = Idle Seconds = 300 DialMessage1 = DialMessage2 = ISDN = 0 Auto DNS = 1
When I execute the wvdial command on the terminal the following error appears: joey-suse:~/Desktop # wvdial --> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60 --> Cannot get information for serial port. --> Initializing modem. --> Sending: ATZ ATZ OK --> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 OK --> Modem initialized. --> Idle Seconds = 300, disabling automatic reconnect. --> Sending: ATDT# 777 --> Waiting for carrier. ATDT# 777 NO CARRIER --> No Carrier! Trying again. --> Sending: ATDT# 777 --> Waiting for carrier. ATDT# 777 NO CARRIER --> No Carrier! Trying again.
I installed the intel soft modem in the debian lenny, and system can detect the modem, wvdial can dial the phone number but cannot connect to the internet with this error: No Carrier The phone number, user and password all are correct and I can connect to the internet in the windows as I post this post in the windows.
I 've tried many ways to configure my Reliance NetConnect with Ubuntu. I 've tried with wvdial, sudo pon, tried through Network Manager, and using wine I installed the .exe driver.
I liked Ubuntu, but I need to configure usb modem..
I 'm using Huawei EC325, Reliance NetConnect USB modem..
When I try using wvdial, I can see some operations performing, its dialing #777, but some prob with the carrier..
I post here wanting to know if it's Possible to run wvdial as soon as linux detects USB modem.I have already installed and done the setting for using wvdial. I can successfully use wvdial command to setup internet connection. But I have only 1 USB modem. When my wife wants to use it for her PC, she disconnects it from my linux machine. What I want to do now is... 1 that when I attatch the USB back to my linux, I'd want it to do "wvdial &" automatically.2 that when linux is rebooted, "wvdial &" done automatically as soon as it detects USB modem.
I have only a dial-up connection. I've been using the 32-bit version of WVDIAL and its associated programs in Karmic Koala for over a year. I recently finally got around to installing Maverick Meerkat on a different drive. The 64-bit version. I see that I need the 64-bit version of the modem software, and I haven't found it right away. Where can I get it? The programs required under 32-bit Karmic Koala:
All of these had .deb filename extensions. Also, largely because I only have a slow dial-up connection, I don't have any updates for either Karmic Koala or Maverick Meerkat installed. If you happen to know that I absolutely need some particular update(s)
trying to connect to the internet using wvdial but facing problems. the command runs fine until i get PID ppd Carrier detected. Starting PPP immediately.
--> Starting pppd at Sat Oct 23 10:40:09 2010 --> Pid of pppd: 2520
nothing happens after this.. I checked the resolve.conf and it is empty. i put openDNS server addresses but still did not work.

1) I have micromax 372g usb modem(3g).. but it is not being connected ubuntu 10.10 2) I suppose my device is being recognized and I tried this method [URL] but when I tried to install, it said that package missing for wvdial.
What should I do. Where can I get this package and how can I install it (with no dependany check). My life is extremely difficult without internet on ubuntu, I am ready to give any other information that u need. I have ubuntu 10.10 maverick dual boot with windows. And yes take into consideration that I don't have internet on ubuntu. So provide me full detail how to install it from other media and commands to execute them.
Now that I'm able to connect to Internet via my MC760 wireless modem on /dev/ttyUSB0, I am losing time! I have lost 5 minutes while online for 1/2 hr. Yes ntpd is running. What is strange is that right now, I'm in town at coffee shop and using wireless. I'm not losing time at all. This isn't the first time I've noticed the loss of time. It's been happening every since I was able to connect with the usb modem. I just had to come to town and use wireless to see if the problem existed while on wireless (b43). While being connected via the MC760, I've also noticed that the cpu temp rises and the fan runs quite a bit more than when not connected via the MC760. Here is the top portion of output of "top" code...
2) Then I run wvdial command but getting following o/p
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60 --> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory --> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory --> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory
The following describes odd behavior in my opinion, but I'm not sure where this question belongs. How can a monitor affect the loading of application SW? Can I get some help to fix the following problem here?I installed lxde on a P3 with a Gem 17" CRT monitor. LXDE runs on top of opensuse 11.4. On a P4 box I installed kde with 11.4, both from the same DVD. The P4 OS was installed using Vivitron 1776 17" CRT monitor.
Both boxes use qinternet for connection to DSL. Qinternet is set to autostart and its icon displays in the taskbar system tray. I bought a ViewSonic E70 17" CRT monitor for the P4 and put the Vivitron on the P3.Now the P3 displays the qinternet icon in a small terminal instead of loading it into the system tray as before. Of the three 17" CRT monitors I have, only with the Gem will the P3 (LXDE) system display qinternet in the system tray. The P4 system (KDE4) can run any of the monitors and still put the qinternet icon into the system.Qinternet is a binary file, but if i "less" it, I can see references to kinternet, so I think it's KDE4 SW. LXDE may be the culprit, or maybe the behavior will involve xorg
i cant get Qinternet to auto reconnect when connection is lost due to dynamic IP changes from my ISP.Im using Ifup method.Thing is, every 24 hours, ISP changes my IP and thus, disconnects me from the internet. I need it to reconnect but dont know how to do it.
I wished to use qinternet under openSUSE 11.3 to control multiple interfaces (a mixture of internet/intranet, DHCP/static IP), so I applied the same settings/tests which were successful for kinternet under open/SUSE 11.2: Selected options within Yast2/Network Settings: Traditional Method with ifupEnable Device Control for Non-root User Via QinternetYast2/System/System Services(RunLevel)/smpppd = "yes" From command line terminal:
[Code]....
Default state indicated by different icons. Interface option brought up by right-mouse-clicking on the qinternet/kinternet panel icon and choosing Settings/Various Settings/Startup tab. Note: Regardless of whether qinternet was running or not, internet communications via the relevant network interface still worked.
In case the failure of qinternet/smpppd was simply a PolicyKit issue, I edited /etc/PolicyKit/PolicyKit.conf to ensure that the relevant user had the necessary privilege to run smpppd (I assume that qinternet can be ignored since it is just the front end for smpppd) e.g.
[Code]....
This made no difference, SO FOR DIAGNOSTIC PURPOSES ONLY, I logged in as root after first removing the power from the network switches externally connected to each network interface (isolating the local host). I then ran qinternet but once again, the Interface option was greyed out. This confirmed fairly conclusively that lack of privilege was not responsible for the qinternet/smpppd problem.
I use ubuntu 9.10 and PCI connected Conexant CX11252 Modem. My GNOME PPP doesn't detects my modem. How can I create a connection? Is there any way to detect my modem and connect ? or ubuntu is fit only for broadband? I think most of the activities in ubuntu depends on internet. I can't do any work. I am losing my money in Internet Cafe. Broadband is even not available in my resident area. Therefore. find a solution to connect internet via my dial up modem!
I have a conexant D480 MDC modem on my Dell Latitude | D800 but I am unable to Instll it,I have also tried using Gnome PPP,And it also says that no modems were detected on your system , Following are the error codes it generated Quote:
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.60 --> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory --> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory --> Cannot open /dev/modem: No such file or directory
I am new to linux.I installed fedora 12. i have setup wvdial to connect to the internet.but the problem is my usb modem's speed is being detected too low. It is zte cdma usb modem. In windows the baud rate was detected 230400. but wvdial detects the baud rate only 9600. the download speed is slower and web pages also load slowly. How can i correct this problem so that my modem works at full potential.
I've been trying out the netbook remix of 10.04 but I've been having some issues getting my Huawei modem to work. It detects the install cd and usb storage but it does not discover the modem.
This is the dmesg output after connecting the device:
Code: > [10540.912126] usb 1-4: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 9 > [10541.055850] usb 1-4: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice > [10541.060834] scsi12 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices > [10541.061799] usb-storage: device found at 9
My D-link DWM-152 HSDPA USB modem is not in the USB_modeswitch supported hardware list and ubuntu was recognized it as USB storage. Any idea how can i switch it to modem mode? I'm using ubuntu lucid.
I am trying a 3G HSDPA USB Modem inUbuntu 10.04. It detects it as a CD Drive.
When I tried to 'Safely Remove Drive'
I got the following error:
Quote:
Unable to stop drive Error detaching: helper exited with exit code 1: Detaching device /dev/sr1 USB device: /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1d.2/usb4/4-2) SYNCHRONIZE CACHE: FAILED: No such file or directory
At Saturday, 23rd October 2010 I bought a USB CDMA Modem named AX manufactured by Alltronix and has series labeled ACM-001. The chipset is Qualcom. It didn't work on My Karmic Koala nor Lucid Lynx. I try to check some condition by writing some command in shell prompt like: tail -f /var/log/messages, lsusb, and modprobe. Here is the results.
result of tail -f /var/log/messages Oct 24 01:37:54 ubuntu kernel: [ 500.464348] usb 2-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3 Oct 24 01:37:55 ubuntu kernel: [ 500.628220] usb 2-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice Oct 24 01:37:55 ubuntu kernel: [ 500.636305] scsi5 : SCSI emulation for USB Mass Storage devices.
I've just installed ubuntu on my father's netbook hp 210 mini 3g with internal 3g modem. At the beginning everything was fine - system automatically detected modem and asked for PIN code. I was very surprised but during download some updates connection broke.. and since then ubuntu doesn't detect modem. I have even reinstalled system
In the broadband connection wizard there is no device detected. I'm on ubuntu 11.04, but on the 10.10 was the same problem.
I am using Ubuntu 11.04 and a Huawei USB modem to connect to internet. Most of the time when I start computer it is not detected my system. Then I use to reboot and then it gets detected automatically. That means its drivers are now loaded. But I don't know why drivers are not loaded when I start first time.
I have a ZTE HSUPA USB Modem Model:MF636 which used to work great and then is not longer detected.
I am using Fedora 12 and was having problems with the modem not been properly detected and filed a bug, which turned not to be a problem of NetworkManager, but an issue with udev. https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=603433
I followed instructions to edit /lib/udev/rules.d/61-option-modem-modeswitch.rules and then it worked fine.
Now the modem is again not properly detected. Here is a copy of the results from dmesg code...
I have tried restoring the file that I edited. It was back to the stated previusly reported. I also have tried to run an older kernel. Then I updated to the latest kernel available for Fedora 12. Nothing seems to work.
I've just installed Zentyal (formally eBox) which is a firewall built on Ubuntu server 10.04. Unfortunately my PCI modem is not automatically detected upon installation and the Zentyal community forum is not very active. Is it possible to get the 4-port Solos Multiport PCI ADSL2+ Modem card from Traverse Technologies working under Zentyal?Apparently the driver is included in kernel versions 2.6.29 and later so I was surprised that it was not automatically detected and working upon installation. It is also available from Zentyal was able to detect their single port card, the Vicking PCIADSL2+ttp://www.traverse.com.au/productvi...product_id=115). This card worked out-the-box - all I had to do was enter my static IP details! Is there any way to achieve the same functionality with the Solos 4 port?
i have all kinds of usb cellular modems i want to try.i used 2 models of the sierra wireless modem, and one ZTE modem. when i connect the usb modem, i see /dev/ttyUSB* (1/2/3..).then, using minicom i can connect to the device and send AT Commands to communicate with it.when i tried another modem, which is not recognized by NetworkManager for example, i couldn't see any /dev/ttyUSB*, and i have no idea how can i send data to the device..my question is:
1) what's the driver role in creating those ttyUSB handles?
2) how can i just write to the usb device, the same like in serial ports for example?
3) so, if i were the best developer in the world, is it possible to communicate with an unknown usb modem? or in any case - i'm depended on the manufacturer driver?
I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my Mom's HP laptop. She loves the way I set things up for her. It's a one click solution for accesing her banking, Facebook, Email and SKYPE. I would like to be able to add something else to the panel whereby she would just click once and a telephone pad would appear for her to dial phone numbers so that she can call people from her computer.
In Fedora 14 (kernel 2.6.35.10-74.fc14.i686) I am not able to get an internet connection on my laptop via mobile broadband. However dialing succeeds and the provider starts the daily flate rate accounting.I tried the graphical network management as well as wvdial and even sakis3g (achitecture free variant from URl...).With wvdial (well configured I think) and sakis3g the dial connection is established (permanent blue light on Huawei E169). "netstat -ie" shows that the network configuration has changed (device pp0 instead of eth0 and "netstat -rn" shows that default router is set to 10.64.64.64). But "ping" does not receive data from any internet IP address and browser cannot render any website. A later check call of my prepaid balance said that the daily rate countdown was initiated (so I pay for nothing).
The GUI of the KDE network icon seems to work similar but does not set the usb key into the connected state (only blinking blue light and break-off after a few seconds).Disabling of selinux didn't change anything as well. With Mandriva 2010 I didn't have any problems with same mobile key and provider.
