OpenSUSE Wireless :: Auto-reconnect Wifi When It Is Down?

Apr 10, 2010

I have my openSUSE 11.2 connected to router by wifi. I want frequently to access it from my LAN or even Internet, but even so frequent the connection is lost for some reason.

When I am at the box, I can easily do a ifdown/ifup and it will reconnect, but that is a pain when I am not local.

is there some way or maybe a script to check the connection so now and then and if not online then re-connects it automatic ?

OpenSUSE Network :: Reconnect A Pppoe Internet Connection?

The provider here sometimes goes through some problems and the connection may disappear and return at any unexpected moment. In Windows there is a icon on system tray that dysplays such information and I know when the connection is gone. It also allows me to try to reconnect manually. Where do I find these information on Opensuse here do I manage to reconnect. In Windows it was also possible to set the connection to re-dial automatically when it was out. It was very useful if it failed in the middle of a download, the system reconnected and the download manager retried until download resumed. Is there some way to adjust opensuse to reconnect automatically when connection fails or some software that does it? Furthermore, is there a good download manager that works in Opensuse that pause, accelerates downloads and retries when connection fails?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Auto Reconnect After Power Savings Mode?

Aug 17, 2011

I am running a version of Ubuntu 10.4 with XFCE loaded (actually Qimo, a distribution for kids). I am using a pci wireless card with a broadcom 43XX chipset and WPA2 authentication using the Broadcom STA driver. In an account with privileges I set the auto eth1 (which is what my wireless card comes up as) to connect automatically, and make available to other users.

When I switch to the kid's account, the wireless connects just fine. Then, if the computer is not used for a period of time, the powersavings mode kicks in. When the computer is woken up, the wireless connection does not attempt to reconnect. If you right click on the networking icon it doesn't even show any available connections, even though it can be found by clicking edit connections. The only way I can get it to reconnect is to restart the machine (I will admit that I did not try to restart the networking service, I will try that tonight).

Any ideas? This has been driving me nuts for a few days now. The users during the day are non technical and can't deal with these kind of issues. I can post more details about the setup (as recommended by the sticky post) tonight. I am at work at the moment and can't get to the machine from here - because it has removed itself from the network again.

OpenSUSE :: LXDE Changes Qinternet Display On Different Monitors?

Jun 25, 2011

The following describes odd behavior in my opinion, but I'm not sure where this question belongs. How can a monitor affect the loading of application SW? Can I get some help to fix the following problem here?I installed lxde on a P3 with a Gem 17" CRT monitor. LXDE runs on top of opensuse 11.4. On a P4 box I installed kde with 11.4, both from the same DVD. The P4 OS was installed using Vivitron 1776 17" CRT monitor.

Both boxes use qinternet for connection to DSL. Qinternet is set to autostart and its icon displays in the taskbar system tray. I bought a ViewSonic E70 17" CRT monitor for the P4 and put the Vivitron on the P3.Now the P3 displays the qinternet icon in a small terminal instead of loading it into the system tray as before. Of the three 17" CRT monitors I have, only with the Gem will the P3 (LXDE) system display qinternet in the system tray. The P4 system (KDE4) can run any of the monitors and still put the qinternet icon into the system.Qinternet is a binary file, but if i "less" it, I can see references to kinternet, so I think it's KDE4 SW. LXDE may be the culprit, or maybe the behavior will involve xorg

OpenSUSE Network :: Is Qinternet Or Smpppd Broken In 11.3 Final Version

Aug 3, 2010

I wished to use qinternet under openSUSE 11.3 to control multiple interfaces (a mixture of internet/intranet, DHCP/static IP), so I applied the same settings/tests which were successful for kinternet under open/SUSE 11.2: Selected options within Yast2/Network Settings: Traditional Method with ifupEnable Device Control for Non-root User Via QinternetYast2/System/System Services(RunLevel)/smpppd = "yes" From command line terminal:

[Code]....

Default state indicated by different icons. Interface option brought up by right-mouse-clicking on the qinternet/kinternet panel icon and choosing Settings/Various Settings/Startup tab. Note: Regardless of whether qinternet was running or not, internet communications via the relevant network interface still worked.

In case the failure of qinternet/smpppd was simply a PolicyKit issue, I edited /etc/PolicyKit/PolicyKit.conf to ensure that the relevant user had the necessary privilege to run smpppd (I assume that qinternet can be ignored since it is just the front end for smpppd) e.g.

[Code]....

This made no difference, SO FOR DIAGNOSTIC PURPOSES ONLY, I logged in as root after first removing the power from the network switches externally connected to each network interface (isolating the local host). I then ran qinternet but once again, the Interface option was greyed out. This confirmed fairly conclusively that lack of privilege was not responsible for the qinternet/smpppd problem.

Debian Configuration :: Unable To Reconnect 3G Connection After New IP Was Given

Sep 28, 2015

I use Debian Jessie 8.2 and I am using a 3G connection using this modem => [URL] ....

The 3G connection works fine, except after 24 hours the connection drops and I cannot reconnect. If I reboot the computer, the connection will work again.

My guess is that my ISP gives me a new IP address after 24 hours and somehow my system cannot handle it.

How can I reconnect my 3G connection without rebooting?

I have already tried the following commands:

Code: Select allsudo service network-manager restart

Code: Select alldhclient -r eth0
dhclient eth0

Code: Select allsystemctl restart ModemManager

Results of journalctl and grepping my connection name (SFR)

Code: Select allsept. 22 17:58:19 ark1 NetworkManager[512]: <info> Policy set 'SFR Web / Prepaid 1' (eth0) as default for IPv4 routing and DNS.
sept. 23 18:17:07 ark1 NetworkManager[9446]: <info> new connection /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/SFR Web * Prepaid 1
sept. 23 18:17:08 ark1 NetworkManager[9446]: <info> Auto-activating connection 'SFR Web / Prepaid 1'.

[Code] ....

As you can see sept 22 at time 17:58 is when the computer started up. And roughly 24 hours after it failed to reconnect.

Also I should mention that there is a script to run the command:

Code: Select allsudo service network-manager restart

if the computer cannot ping a server, ie if the connection is lost.

More journalctl info when the system tries to reconnect:

OpenSUSE :: KDE Hangs When NFS Connection Lost

Jun 16, 2010

I have a server which is located in the basement. The server exports a few directories which I mount on my desktop using NFS. From time to time, the connection gets lost. The server is also not always on. I can't change that part, so I worked out a script which notifies me when it's going down, and when it's back up again. It also mounts everything back. However, As soon as I loose the connection, my desktop seems to be gone. KDE doesn't work, but I can use a few applications like Konsole, google-chrome, firefox, stuff like that. But the plasma-desktop around it hangs. As soon as the connection gets back again, everything works. I have this issue only when my desktop is running while I loose the connection to the server. If it's down when I start my desktop, everything works properly. Unless the server comes alive, the nfs directories are mounted and the connection is lost again.

Ubuntu :: Wireless Randomly Drops Connection And Refuses To Reconnect?

Mar 23, 2010

my wireless will connect to a well known connection but will sometimes drop the connection then tries to reconnect. Sometimes it will reconnect w/o a problem but most times it will fail and when it fails it will refuse to even recognize that same wireless connection.

If by a small chance it does recognize the network then when you click on it, it will ask you again for the password, which is already saved onto the computer. After entering the password it will try to reconnect, then fail.

Only solution is to reboot.

I was wondering if there was an easy temporary fix of just reloading the software that controls the wireless.Such as, my audio doesn't work when I boot. I need to reload the ALSA driver using sudo /sbin/alsa force-reload

Is there something specific to the wireless that I can force-reload and it will start working w/o having me reboot my PC?

OpenSUSE Network :: Lost The Internet Connection On 11.4?

May 20, 2011

I played with the Network Settings section in YaST, because I wanted to use the wireless network card I installed into the PCI port. OpenSUSE recognised the type of card and its MAC number, and told me that I needed to install a firmware (fwcutter something). I tried some changes on the cable internet connection (like activate on plugged) while I tried to change the wireless connection (like activate on boot).

What I have now is that my cable internet connection is not working at all (it was working just 3 days ago), my wireless internet connection is, as always, not working either. I managed to work the wireless card on Windows XP by finding its drivers.

Since the problem is with my office computer, I cannot answer the exact brand names of the ethernet card and wireless card. Shall I reinstall OpenSUSE 11.3 from the DVD I have?

Second problem: OpenSUSE does not recognise my external harddisk, it gives an error about mounting the device.

General :: Lost Internet Recently - Wednesday's Ubuntu 9.10 Auto Upgrade / Fix It?

Mar 21, 2010

I run an e machines laptop with Windows Vista and Ubuntu 9.10 side by side (choose on boot), just using windows for accessing my office PC remotely.
I used the Internet normally on Wednesday, and upgrade manager ran as normal. Thursday, was out, so did not use laptop - Friday, no connection to Internet.
I have done a bit of research - pinging tells me that the connection to the router is fine, but nothing to the Internet. The same router is working fine for my windows desktop machine. After a frustrating weekend, I have thought of comparing settings on the desktop and laptop, and have found that there are 2 DNS server addresses on my desktop machine. Entering these into windows has got the laptop back on the Internet using windows, but I cannot work out how to do this in system/preferences/network connections in Ubuntu.

Therefore, before I can VNC to any of these machines after a reboot, (for software updates, etc.) I have to connect a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, just to type in my password.

I presently have a 2Wire Modem located at 172.16.0.1 and I have a new Motorola in the mail but I presently cannot get Lucid to find my internet connection.

If I boot into XP everything is fine. i can go all over the net. If I boot into Karmic, all is well. I am typing this in Karmic so it is strictly a Lucid problem and I have tried all that I know to do and I really want my Lucid install back.

Ubuntu :: 10.04 Freeze And Lost Connection With HDD?

Nov 26, 2010

Log file viewer also can't provide much help. I'm also affected by this issue that has been gone on my PC for almost 2 months, now. I've been forced to re-install Ubuntu ( from 9.04 to 10.04 ) countless time. As other users mentioned in their thread, the problems occurred randomly. Sometimes right after start-up, sometimes after 10 min to an hour of PC usage and sometimes no freeze at all. But the symptoms seems similar though on different component of hardwares. Me, myself, my PC always started to display freezing symptoms after 2-3 days of any Ubuntu fresh installations. The only way to re-boot are through RSEIUB/O ( and luckily I've never failed to do so ). Its just maybe took countless time of Ctrl + Alt + Del, before I could enter Grub menu and after that Ubuntu. Seems like that BIOS doesn't recognize HDD ( where the Ubuntu situated ), but oddly it ( BIOS ) only rcognize the CD/DVD drive . Lately, to overcome this HDD problem, I tried to pull out the SATA cable connected to CD/DVD drive and left only the SATA cable to HDD. And guess what, I've never encounter this unrecognized HDD problem for the past 2 days. I suspected the cause off all this issues are maybe the AsRock G31M-VS2 mobo that I've just installed about 2 month ago. But certainly, this issue never back me off my love to Ubuntu. As long its Open Sources.
