I would like to know if I will be able to work on my laptop with 11.4 , someone knows if something changed with hang/freeze issues? Currently I have installed 11.1 but since repositories were removed no updates or new software for me so I'm considering installing something new.
View 7 RepliesI have just reinstalled testing on a Samsung Q30 and I cant get X to start. I am just left with a blank screen and ctrl+alt+Fn does nothing. I had a previous install of testing that worked fine but it might have been running a previous version of the kernel, or I had installed a bug fix to do with 915resoultion that I can't remember about. Booting off a Slax live cd works fine but I have had similar problems with Knoppix and Ubuntu.
I am running LXDE but I previously tried Gnome and had the same problem. Running xander displays cant open display Running dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg returns nothing, as does Xfree86 -configure There is no /etc/X11/xorg.conf or installed by default, I have tried running startx with a custom xorg.conf and the automatically generated one from -configure. The automatic one did not include any resolutions and was configured for a dual head set up although there was only one monitor connected.
I thought it may be the same problem as this:[url]
But I have tried following the bug fixes on that site and I have had no luck.

I've installed Suse linux 11.3 (kernel 2.6.34.7-0.5) on my brand new computer HP all in one 5130. Everything worked incredibly well : Wifi, wireless keyboard and mouse, sound, webcam.. There is only one remaining issue : I get a very poor resolution (1280x1024) instead of the 1920x1080 allowed by the screen. The graphic card is an intel chipset (HD graphics) integrated to an intel core i3 CPU. Here is (part of) the X11.org log :

I have a Dell Dimension 3000 with an integrated Intel 865g graphics card that I am trying to use in X on Centos 5.4 i386. The "810" driver (what Centos configures by default) works, but will not display at 1600x900. Strangely enough, it will actually work at higher resolutions such as 1600x1200, but 1600x900 fails, even with 915resolution and 855resolution. The "intel" xorg driver (included with Centos) locks up the entire machine when starting X, so thats a no go as well.
The "fbdev" driver works but, once again, won't display 1600x900, because that resolution doesn't work properly with the version of the intelfb kernel module that Centos bundles. Fedora Core 12 works perfectly fine at 1600x900 on the machine. I think that if I could get a newer xorg installation (or perhaps just a driver) going under Centos, it might fix the problem. I couldn't find any 3rd party repos containing such packages. I'd really rather run Centos on the machine, due to the package stability (yes, I see the irony here).

This is a known bug for openSUSE 11.3 and intel video cards. So, I tried some suggestions and updated my kernel to 2.6.35. Nope. Same prob. I updated Xorg, mesa, drm, cairo (had to go to Factory for that one). I finally got all the requirements met as listed on Intel Linux Graphics: 2010Q2 and I download the intel 2d driver, since it's newer than what comes with openSUSE, even in Factory (xorg-x11-driver-video-intel-legacy 2.9.1).Now, when I go to compile the driver, it errors out on ./configure.how do I let this intel driver package know where xorg-server is?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been using Mandriva (and predecessors) for ten years or so, but that distro really seems to be dying at the moment. Consequently, I am trying to move over my various PCs to SUSE. I've started with my EEEPC 901 which has a 945GME integrated graphics chip. Using Mandriva 2010.2 it works fine and I can have desktop effects (built into KDE) running with no problems. However, with KDE on openSUSE 11.4 I get irregular freezes, although I can still work within the focussed window. Moving around though, clicking on other parts of the desktop etc. doesn't work, then after a few seconds they all happen at once. I am getting the following error multiple times in the X log, which I suspect is associated:

I note this supposedly fixed bug report that may be relevant:[URL].. Secondly, I am getting hopeless 3D speed (glxinfo reports SGI and has all expected output). Desktop effects won't work at all, on boot it pops up a message saying they are disabled as too slow. I know it isn't a benchmark, but glxgears gives about 50, it used to give over 500. I remember a few X versions back having to enable UXA mode instead of EXA in the 'intel' driver, but presumably that is no longer needed and I cannot see any effect of doing that now (in the xorg.conf.d device file). According to the X log, X is definitely using 'intel' driver, not fb etc.
I am running Opensuse 11.4 on a file server, based on an Intel Atom motherboard with 945G graphics chipset.I recently shut down and then rebooted the server (because I needed to switch off the power for a few minutes) after it had had been running quite happily for several weeks since the last boot. Now I cannot start X - it gives up after the line(EE) intel(0): failed to set mode: Invalid argumentI've tried googling but am none the wiser what could have caused this, or how to fix it. I recently installed openSUSE on a new Toshiba and i'm getting very choppy video while watching videos on ....., justin.tv, etc. The video is fine as long as I don't full screen. However, when I try to fullscreen a stream on justin.tv or a ..... video, it instantly becomes choppy and video is extremely delayed in relation to the sound. The sound still continues at it's regular pace, however the video lags behind and is just choppy in general.Also, not sure if this helps, but i'm running an i3 2310M.
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust a little background I have a sony vaio VPCZ119X laptop and have been struggling to get all components working under linux especially the intel graphics. I saw that once I upgraded to the latest available kernel release which currently is 2.6.37 rc7. The intel graphics is working, but sometimes when I boot I get a blank/black screen but seems to be lit up. All other functions seem working so for example I am able to login etc just that I dont see anything on the screen.
I have tried the following so far to identify the issue or isolate it:
- Switching to the console screens has no effect, still the black / blank screen.
- Restarting the system does not always immediately get the screen working, sometimes it takes a couple of reboots before the screen is available
- I have a switchable graphics with nVidia I never get this problem when I use the nvidia driver
- I have tried closing the lid etc as suggested in the below post without any change in output, will try further as there are other options available as well The "Black Screen" on Boot I see one difference between both the Xorg log files but I am not able to reason out why this happens hence I will just supply the files here and try not to theorize.
Xorg.0.log - This was the log output when I got the X display working Xorg.o.log.old - This was the log output when the X display was black/blank Also to highlight that I am using the latest kernel release that is still being tested I guess so maybe it is also a bug in the kernel?
I have been unable to get both opensuse 11.2 and 11.3 32 bit versions work properly on my DELL Latitude E6410 laptop. With both 11.2 and 11.3 KDE Live CDs I get no graphical display when I attempt to boot into the Live system. VESA mode does not help either, only text mode works. So I installed the system in text mode but during the first boot the screen went blank again.
One peculiar thing is that 11.1 installs and boots fine, what gives? Is this even supported or I shouldn't even try to bother getting this setup to work? Has anyone been able to run opensuse 11.3 on a Core i7 integrated Intel graphics system with X system working?
Would a Nvidia Geforce 4 graphics card be supported for openSUSE? My friend gave me it, and said that it was. But he doesnt use Linux.

I've got a problem to use intel graphic card and kde. When I enable opengl support it seems threa re refresh problems, botton now are visible, now not, it seems a blinking effect and when I move the pointer it seems kde try to re-draw the object but the object get invisible, so a relay mess. Xrender instead work but it's slow. Whit opensuse 11.2 all was ok. glxgears however shows me pretty good performance so I don't understand where is the problem.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a system with two nVidia graphics cards, with monitors connected to each graphics card. I used nvidia-settings to setup a X server for each graphics card. Rebooted with saved xorg.conf file. I do see all monitors displaying their correct image. I am using Gnome 2 supplied with 11.3. The problem is: how do I start applications on the 2nd X server? If I use the application launcher on 2nd X server, the applications appear on the monitors of the 1st X server. I am also unable to move applications windows from one X server to the other.

With your help I succeeded in solve my wireless issue, but unfortunately it seems that I am having other issues.Frankly I am not perfectly sure that my graphics card is acting strangely, what I have noticed using Window Vista ( I have both in my laptop Vista and Linux but in two separately hard disk), the graphic level is superior (definition color, graphic effects and so on).Conversely, when I am using Opesuse, it seems that the graphic card is like powered down. So I am thinking that there is no hardware or firmware problem, but maybe drivers are not so uptodate.
Before getting back to you, I tried to solve the problem by myself: I tried to use every tool the KDE gave to me, but I did not find any parameter to change or error indication.

I was looking to get glx to work with direct rendering. So i installed the nvidia drivers from the openSuSe Sight. I installed because /var/log/Xorg.O.log Said that the Nvidia card was not loaded. I have unfortunately found myself unable to properly boot up openSUSE because I decided to buy the Acer Aspire with the i5 Processor.
I have the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD (GMA HD) graphics card, and unfortunately from all my searching online and on openSUSE, I have been unable to find a driver for this that works for linux, and in addition I don't know how to install a driver outside of a GUI.
My openSUSE boots up to the boot choosing screen (regular openSUSE or failsafe), and then that nice list of functions being done is displayed, but as soon as the daemon has started, suddenly my screen goes blank and I am unable to do anything about it. Beyond this point, my OS loses all functionability, and while I can hear it computing, I am unable to actually tell WHAT it is computing. get a driver for this and to install this driver and get this GUI running, that would be great.

Perhaps my last post about this was too long and hence why nobody responded. So i will try and keep it simple and let the experts advise me.
I have tried installing an rpm that I got from rpm search. Namely xorg-x11-driver-video-xgi-1.5.0-6.1.i586 which seemed to install but when I did a query it said it was not installed, but when I tried to do an install again it said it was already installed ??
There is also a file called xserver-xorg-video-sis_0.9.3.orig.tar.gz which i got from this site. I have not managed to extract it properly yet but will look into that myself. It appears to have in it a makefile, so I presume it is source files and I could really do with some help in that.
