View 2 RepliesI am trying to synchronize the time of my VM server with ntpd. I have the following configuration. And in the /etc/ntp.conf, I have the following line:
restrict default ignore
restrict 127.0.0.1.
server time1.server
server time2.server
Whenever I have this line, the erver is not able to synchronize its time... So far as I understood, this line prevents other servers using this machine as a time server. And the second line says to allow localhost to use as time server. But why do I need to use its own time server when I have specified to use time1.server and time2.server ? ( firewall for tcp and udp ports 123 is open)
However, when I replace the first line of the configuration with the following line, it works. restrict default kod nomodify notrap noquery But with this, i am allowing other servers to use this server a ntp (which I wouldn't like to). Why this machine tries to use ntp server of its own (to snyc time) and why it is not working though i have the entry "restrict 127.0.0.1" ??
I am facing issue in ntp, it is getting killed frequently. see below error; # /etc/init.d/ntpd status ntpd dead but pid file exists After starting service it is works fine but again after sometimes it get in dead postition.

I developed a java application to organize the articles and notes for what I need for my work reports. The path appear in a jlist component and by clicking on I'd like the file opened. The application works fine in /home side.
In /root side I get this message error:
"GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; the most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon." I work in KDE (OpenSuse 11.4). Why I need a configuration tipically of GNOME?

So my desktop is basically worthless (Can't vnc in, windows have no title bar, can't launch anything)
i been getting errors when trying to use zypper from the console. This happens in 2 pcs, and errors seem to be the same,One has 11.4 + gnome 2, standar installation (with gnome) from 11.4 DVD. The error i get whenever i run something like zypper install xxxyyy.rpm or zypper update is:
GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection.c:2279:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection->initialization_error == NULL)
the other one, 11.4 with gnome 3 (clean install from live dvd):
GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection.c:2279:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection->initialization_error == NULL)
GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; the most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon. See GConf configuration system for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: The connection is closed)
I dont know if its related, but the one with gnome 3 constantly gives me (what i think is) a kernel panic when i shut down the system, it happens fast and the text on the screen is not "linear" but spread all over the screen, so i cant read the whole message, but it does say something about glib and corruption.This is actually the first time(s) ibe seen a kernel panic ever since i used ubuntu.
Attempting clean install of ubuntu 9.10 using Flash drive. received the above error message. Have been away for almost a year and have forgotten much of what I thought I had learned. I tried a second download, despite "no errors".

I have SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 running on HP Mini 2133. It's been working like a dream since I got it, but one day I got the following error message when booting it: Failed to start the X server (your graphical interface). It is likely that it is not set up correctly. Would you like to view the X server output to diagnose problem? <Yes> <No>.
X server output says alot of things, but I think this is the most important:
(==)Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf"
ACPI: OSPMOpen Called
ACPI: Opening device
(EE) VIA(0): No valid modes found
I then get the login:. I'm able to login, but I have no clue on what to do. How can I fix this?
I installed Red-hat 5.3. Problem is that it is not showing graphical interface. Only kernel / command prompt is available. I tried startx, then I got this msg. No video BIOS modes for chosen depth. Also showing that:

I have one local mail server hosted in Mdaemon in my office and ip is 192.168.10.2. My clients can't use the email from the outside. If they want to use the mail, they need to come to office. I want them to use from the outside. How can i set up the mail server. Do i need to host the server on the hosting? I want to synchronize with my local mail server. I don't have the public IP BTW.

Whenever I try to do a rpm -u /packages/*.rpm i recieve a failed dependencies error on the very first rpm. I know that I can go though each rpm one by one and trace each dependency but that will take forever. Is there a way to skip these errors? I know the -nodeps command for rpm but I dont want to screw something up but running all of these rpms on -nodeps
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to make sense out of this error report. I get it every once in a while on startup of my machine.
Code:
Summary:
SELinux is preventing /usr/sbin/ntpd access to a leaked netlink_route_socket
file descriptor.
Detailed Description:
[ntpd has a permissive type (ntpd_t). This access was not denied.]
SELinux denied access requested by the ntpd command. It looks like this is either a leaked descriptor or ntpd output was redirected to a file it is not allowed to access. Leaks usually can be ignored since SELinux is just closing the leak and reporting the error. The application does not use the descriptor, so it will run properly. If this is a redirection, you will not get output in the netlink_route_socket. You should generate a bugzilla on selinux-policy, and it will get routed to the appropriate package. You can safely ignore this avc.
Allowing Access:
You can generate a local policy module to allow this access - see FAQ [URL]

Hoping to get better results with ntpdate, I stopped NTPS and tried :
Code:
# ntpdate ntp.skynet.be

# ntpdate -ud ntp.skynet.be

receive(195.13.23.5) .....
I am running Debian Lenny 64b, and every packages are totally updated. I have 25 identical servers. And there is just one giving me this problem. From what I see, it is not a connection/FW issue since ntpdate get replies from the ntp server (ntp.skynet.be is my isp's stratum 2 ntp server).
ntpd startup fails during boot.Does startup just fine manually from command line once it's booted though. Any suggestions what I might adjust?

What configuration options in /etc/ntp.conf do I have to set to allow other computers to receive time from a ntpd server? I've tried removing "nopeers" and "noquery" from the restrict lines, but I can't see anything on port 123.

Here's all configuration and other important information for troubleshooting. Is there anything wrong with my config? btw, I used wireshark to look at the UDP packets - I dont get any responses from any of the servers back. I only see requests going out from my server, but no response. Is this a firewall Issue? If it is, then do I need to just enable UDP port 123 on the firewall?
