I am trying to set Empathy up and it takes my account on google talk so i can chat. But when I try to initiate an audio call it falls into an error:
"Can't establish audio stream.
There was a failure in the call engine.
Technical details:
Could not sync the state of the new nicesrc with its parent."
I while back I tried installing Skype form the software centre but for some reason it wouldn't work. Now, with a fresh install of Lucid, I see that Empathy comes pre-installed and allows video chatting. Is it worth setting up a account? Does anyone have experience with Empathy?

I have enabled the "Video/Voice Settings" plug-in, but do not get any options any where to initiate a voice call. I am trying to do voice over SIPE to Office Communication Server and I am not 100% sure if pidgin-sipe supports audio (I have looked around but can't find any information on features).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having some problems getting the onboard sound card on my Intel DP45SG motherboard to work properly under openSuse 11.1. Yast appears to have detected the card as a 82801JI (ICH10 Family) HD Audio Controller, but I cannot get any sound out of the card at all.
I have tried to follow this thread, and have run the alsa-info script, the results of which are posted here. It appears to me that the codec that is listed in the alsa script, which is the IDT 92HD73E1X5, is not the same as that which is listed on Intel's site for this board, which is the IDT 92HD73E codec. Can anyone help me out with regards to getting this going? Additional info below:

I have 2 pc with Asus AMD boards (M4A87TD Evo and M4A88TD-M Evo) running OpenSuse 11.3.on both the front panel audio headset + mic do not work.on one PC I have an other OS also installed, so I know that on this machine the hardware is working.is there a chance to get the frontpanel audio connectors running with the actual openSuse or do I have to wait for the next version with a newer kernel/alsa version?

I'm thinking "synchronization error" (duh!) but I'm not sure how to start to diagnose the issue. I'm running OpenSUSE 11.4 x64, and the problem shows up in both chrome and opera.
I've been using Pidgin up until recently but I don't really like it. I came across Empathy and really like it but I was wondering if there is any way to use Skype through Empathy. If so can I only chat or can I use Empathy for callsvideo calls?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have behringer UCA202 usb card, after plug to usb, it just works , I have only small problem with alsamixer, which still shows by default my integrated HDA Intel, I could switch it by F6 or by alsamixer -c 1no problem, but I expect that default card is now plugged "USB audio", so why alsamixer recognize default audio device as HDA intel and not a USB Audio ?anyone who has two or more sound cards with the same issue ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking of installing openSUSE-11.1 Gnome on a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 7400M laptop because the wireless in Gnome is much more user friendly than KDE3/KDE4 in openSUSE-11.1. The idea is to give this laptop to my 84-year old mother and things need to 'just work' for her (she currently has a desktop running openSUSE-11.1 KDE3 that uses a WIRED interface to the web).
I refuse to update this laptop to openSUSE-11.2 nor 11.3 (nor other recent distributions) because every kernel update after the 2.6.27 kernel has broken the Intel i855GM graphics drivers for that laptop. There are many bug reports and none have fixed the problem for this Fujitsu-Siemens implementation of the i855GM graphics.
Hence I am looking at Gnome.
I booted the laptop to a Gnome openSUSE-11.1 liveCD and wireless is easy and works great. But audio is very very VERY bad. It is incredibly user unfriendly and it does NOT work well. I assume that is because pulse audio in openSUSE-11.1 was very immature.

Currently my wife is using this laptop with KDE-4.4.4 (and openSUSE-11.1) so I can't just install Gnome and play with it without taking the laptop away from her for a while (note the hard drive is too small for a dual boot of KDE/Gnome).

okay, here are the details: can't play any audio with amarok when desktop effects are enabled because the minute a window is moved, it will distort the audio. even when disabling desktop effects, some applications still cause this. can't play videos videos even with desktop effects disabled because of the same reason.
i just switched from ubuntu and when i ran version 11.04, i had to disable kms to do anything. i tried on opensuse 11.4 and the audio was flawless but the gfx went all to hell.
on my PC I have 2 sound drivers, one from the mainboard (AC97) and one PCI card (ES1969). Because the mainboard sound path did not recording, I installed the PCI sound card and with 11.1, I managed it to play and record all audio data. With 11.2 the PCI sound path plays the system sounds (suse start-up or shut-down sounds) but not the streaming audio data (skype, flash player). But these are played by the mainboard audio instead. The audio-tests from yast->hardware->sound work for both paths. How should I configure the system to redirect the audio streams to the desired (PCI) audio path? The PCI audio is set as primary sound card and is not muted.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've got a problem occurring with my openSUSE 11.3 // GNOME Empathy Chat Client. When I try to connect to my Facebook account, my client tells me that I have a Network Error. Last time I used the client at home, it worked perfectly fine, but when I'm at work it doesn't.
Now, you guys may say that my work's network may have ports blocked, or the firewall is blocking its use in some way, but I find that hard to believe. My reasoning? I am able to connect to my Facebook account thru Empathy at work on my previous Ubuntu 10.04 system with no problems. I have also been connected to the same chat accounts this whole week on my openSUSE 11.3 // KDE 4.4 Kopete chat client.My Empathy connects to my Skype with no problem also. So, do any of you have any ideas that could possibly solve my issue? I love being connected to my Facebook chat at work because I don't see anyone nearly as often, and it's a great way for me to keep in touch with them.
I installed Suse 11.4 on a compaq desktop computer. Installed a Logitech webcam. With cam programs like cheese, it is working fine. However, Logitech Webcam (C200) not working with Empathy.

I'm trying to setup my Linux target to boot via NFS. The kernel boots up but fails to mount the file system. When looking on a capture from ethereal it can be found that the NFS server return error when client try to mount the /nfstest directory from this server. The returned error is 13

I am using Suse 11.1 on a 64-bit computer. Some time ago, I was helped on these forums to get a Brother MFC-640CW printer/scanner to work by downloading the relevant drivers from the Brother website. Although the printer works fine, when I attempt to scan something into the computer nothing happens. A pop up box appears on screen when the printer is used with an XP OS. Can anybody suggest a way to get the scanner working?

View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter an upgrade to opensuse 11.3 from 11.2 it turns out that cron uses pam for authentication. Now I have one user 'mythtv' which does not have a login and is not part of the 'users' group. This user is being denied access (permission denied messages in /var/log/messages from crond).
Now, I have been experimenting with the /etc/pam.d/crond config file. I wanted to use the pam_listfile module to grant access to this specific user without authentication. That however didn't work and I have now narrowed down the problem even more.
