Apr 20, 2011Webpin is unable to search for packages. Its search for them for ever and cannot find nothing.
Any turn around to fix the issue?

Mar 9, 2010I need help to resolve this problem, i can't update opensuse 11.2, becouse show me a download error...i tried do it manually but still give me that error.
i opened a terminal and they show me this code...
but if a lock in software repositories, the direction is only this:

and if i start the software manager, this continue give me that message.
soo please i need help, becouse this is my first time installing this, and i need to give a very quickly s solution.

Sep 22, 2010how to remove the 'Search and sort section' entirely from the GUI? I would like to only have the cover view in that whole area with just the library size and the buttons on top. I know you can set the cover view to open in a separate window, but then I have to resize the cover view window to cover that whole area every time I start calibre.

Jan 11, 2016I have realized that in not installing suggested packages I've missed out on a ton of doc files, which would really come in handy while I'm away from internet access.
Is there a way take a list of currently installed packages and find out which of them have doc packages available? Possibly install them in a single step? I have been playing around with aptitude and apt-rdepends, but I'm not quite sure how to go about this. Somehow take a list of installed packages, run it through an apt-cache search, and end up with a list of -doc packages to install? My bash-fu isn't the greatest, and I suppose this could be a bad idea to begin with.
Ubuntu :: Lib Packages Not Found In Config Search Path
Aug 16, 2011 I just installed Netsurf, but I was confronted with "libnsbmp is not installed". So I installed libnsbmp.
The error "libnsgif is not installed" appeared when installing libnsbmp.
The error "libpng is not installed" appearded when installing libpnf.
...
I installed all that I was asked to install. However, when I was installing libcss, it said that "Package libparserutils was not found in the pkg-config search path. Perhaps you should add the directory containing 'libparserutils.pc' to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable". I have already installed libparsercutils but not in the /usr/lib dir.
What should I do to continue my installation? And anyone could tell me what are those lib stuff? I installed zlib with the apt-get install command.Can I get other lib stuff with the same command?
Ubuntu :: Apt-get Not Respecting Pinned Packages / Sort It?
Apr 25, 2011I have the edgers ppa installed and I pinned:
xserver-xorg-video-ati
xserver-xorg-video-radeon
When I run apt-get upgrade, I'm told that those two can be upgraded, which I'd rather not do - hence the pinning.
Going into synaptic shows that there are no updated versions available for these two packages - until I specifically check versions available!
So is there way to have apt-get stick with the pins set in synaptic?

Dec 19, 2010I had some major bugs with KDE 4.3 and 4.4 and the only way that I could fix them was to install the entire KDE 4.5. This was mid-Summer. Now I would like to upgrade to Maverick the proper way and have 4.5 in a stock repo.
I managed to get most of kde back to stock by luck and uninstall/reinstalling kdebase stuff and kubuntu-desktop a couple of times. A pain in the neck trying to find important packages that are already installed from a previous PPA.
BTW my sources.list is stock right now.
Does anyone know of a way to search for installed PPA packages that are not in the stock repository?
Debian :: Package Search Site And Stable, Sid, And Experimental All Have Packages For Wine
Aug 21, 2011At first I thought it might be a free software thing but I went on the debian package search site and stable, sid, and experimental all have packages for wine. Why is there none for wheezy? Is it a temporary dependency thing or...? I've googled this but there has been no kind of answer anywhere. Right now I'm using the frickelplatz apotsid repository as they package the most recent version of wine but if I could use a standard debian repository I would.

Aug 31, 2011I just upgraded from 11.2 to 11.4 and the installation/upgrade worked just perfect. I than followed the instructions in the "New User How To/FAQ", "Multimedia and restricted format" post. I was following the instruction in the 11.4 section. I added the additional repositories as explained. I then was on the section where it talks about going into software management and selecting the "Packman" repository and clicking to "switch systems packages" to the versions in this repository (packman). I than click this link and the "warning" screen appears and I am present with conflict resolution after conflict resolution dialog. It just seems that there are some many conflicts, it just seems wrong and I canceled.
The installation/upgrade appears to have worked just fine. My mail is there, audio and dvd play back worked the first try after the upgrade. I am not clear if this is what I should expect or their is something wrong or if I even need to complete this step for a successfully installation.

Apr 5, 2011i guess this is an installation issue as i am newish to Linux and got a F14 laptop from a used/refurb store... Anyway it seem i have difficulty with getting GTK running or maybe it is WGET...?
i did manage to install apt-get and was able to run synaptics ... but now whenever i try to run synaptics it flashes the interface and crashes. i tried apt-get search wget and it says invalid operation search. i tried apt cache wget and get a crash box in the upper right corner... i tried apt-get gtk+extra-2.1.2-4.fc14 and it says invalid operation gtk...
All of which is frustrating my attempts to get the GTK interface to J working. Their script uses WGET which i also cannot get.

Programming :: SORT Command Versus Unix SORT
May 4, 2010We switched from unix to linux and we have an old report that extracted data from a database, output to an ascii file and then sorted the results in the file based on different arguments. The report now blows up when it runs,and I can only guess it is because the options for sort on linux differ slightly from unix.For example, here is one of the commands issued from within the report app that ran on the old unix box:
if sort-sequence = "descending" then
'sort -t~" -f +3.0f -4.0 +5.0r -6.0 -f '
else
'sort -t~" +3.0f -4.0 +1.0f -2.0 -f'
I will eventually rewrite the report to store the data in a local table, but I can simply adjust the options to suit the requirments of linux. Basically, I need to know if this can be a quick fix for the short term.
OpenSUSE :: Apt-Get Search Yields No Results
Jun 5, 2010I've just installed OpenSUSE. I've never used it before. I typically use apt-get to install applications when using Ubuntu; so I'd like to use it with OpenSUSE. I've read some documentation saying that I need to go to YaST -> Software and search for "apt" or "synaptic." However, both of these searches yield no results. Additionally, using the Software Manager to search for these yields no results. What can I do? When I search for something in OpenSUSE and there are 0 results, I get HTML bold tags around the search criteria where it says there are no results (as in, I can actually see the code for the bold tag).

I customized the installation by removing unwanted software during setup, but unfortunately I must have removed something needed because when I open the main menu using the button in the bottom left corner there is the search bar missing. Mar 17, 2011Like with OS 11.3 I used Yast software manager to install "nautilus-search-tool" extension to put "search for files" on the context menu of folders. But nothing works, extension doesn't appear on context menu. Is it a bug to be resolved or is there any special issue about?

May 30, 2011Is it possible to do the following without using the Adobe reader?Adobe Reader (acroread) has a nice search feature that allows to search for strings inside all .pdf files in certain directories (e.g. show me all lines containing the word "recursion" in all PDF files in or below directory "/papers", which gives you a neat clickable list and the sentence for each hit).I much prefer Okular for viewing PDFs, but I am at a loss on how to duplicate the above feature without acroread under linux. The KDE FindFile apparently does not search inside PDFs, or at least not in an intelligible way. I do have Nepomuk running, hogging resources, but I don't understand how to query it - if this is possible at all. So what can I do besides using acroread?

Jul 28, 2010When I try to write email, and enter the first few letters of the recipient in the "to:" box, it sometimes but not always autocompletes. i.e., let's say my contact's name is Frederick, his address is e.g. robertsharry@snotmail.com. I enter Fred or fred or fre, a couple of addresses come in to the autocomplete drop-down, but not his. After searching all over over to find his address by other means, I start to write it in manually only to find that he IS in my address book (and also in recent addresses), listed under Freddie. I know that the word Freddie is not in his actual address, but what is the point of having a search function if you have to remember the address yourself? In other words surely the drop down search should show display names (as well as any other fields)?

Apr 4, 2011I changed the kde desktop layout to Search and Launch on an 11.3 64-bit machine and lost the ability to bring up a right-click menu on the desktop, also tried it on an 11.3 32 bit machine and experienced the exact same thing how I can solve this even if it means reverting to the default layout? I suppose I could delete and re-create the user's /home but I'm wondering if there's a way to solve this without resorting to that On the one machine I've put 11.4 on so far it's using the search and launch layout with absolutely no problems at all and finding it very handy
the 11.4 machine I'm using this layout on actually logs onto the 11.3 64 bit machine I first had the problem with via nis and an nfs /home export For the user it's working fine under I set the search and launch layout from the 11.4 machine, the user I'm getting the problem with on the 64-bit machine (nis/nfs server) was set on the server itself. The 11.3 32 bit machine however, I disabled nis and nfs so that it would use local logons and /home only so it seems to be an issue with 11.3 itself and regardless of cpu architecture

Jul 23, 2010i ve run into problems while installing 11.3 x64. Installer stops at search for linux partitions... to solve it i ve had to go back to 11.2. Anyway, i have installed 11.3 on another hdd (3hdds in raid 5 had to be disconnected). When i go into partitoner (11.3) and device graph, i see two of three raid hdds ok with sda1, sda2.... but the third one is without any partitions./ if i do the same in 11.2 all three hdds are with all partitions in that graph. Anyone know the solution except not installing 11.3? .)

When I open the NFS Client on another host and select "Choose", there is popup that states "Scanning for hosts on this LAN...". Then it returns an error "No NFS server found on your network. ..." That's funny because I had previously mounted the two exported directories already by entering the server name manually. How do I get the NFS server to respond to an automated search?

Aug 6, 2010I am using Suse 11.1 on a 64-bit computer. Some time ago, I was helped on these forums to get a Brother MFC-640CW printer/scanner to work by downloading the relevant drivers from the Brother website. Although the printer works fine, when I attempt to scan something into the computer nothing happens. A pop up box appears on screen when the printer is used with an XP OS. Can anybody suggest a way to get the scanner working?
