View 1 RepliesI use skype and other video chat rooms like tinychat and have alway notice windows user doing cool webcam effects. I want to know if there was a program in ubuntu that would allow this.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have installed the latest version of aMSN (aMSN | Download aMSN software for free at SourceForge.net) which supports sending my webcam video. Unfortunately, it is unable to send my audio at the same time which is highly frustrating.
Does anyone know of a Linux equivalent of MSN which allows video and audio communication. I have tried Kopete, although the call feature button is inactive, despite having setup my webcam in this program.
I have also tried installing a program called qnext, though webcam and audio support between alternate different Instant Messengers (IM's) are not supported.
OS: Opensuse 11.4..I am currently using skype for 1 to 1 video chat, although for more than 2 people, it requires that you purchase a pro version or a day pass to use this feature. Is there a freeware application that allows you to have multiple people for a video chat. In the past I know this feature was available for Yahoo messenger, although this was in the days that I was still using Windows.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAnyone ever try and do any type of video chat from abroad specifically? I'm going to China to teach a class for $work for two weeks and wanted to use something like Skype video chat with my family while over there (I'm in the continental United States) and wanted to know if anyone else out there had tried this or another service? My laptop runs Linux, as well as the computer at my home, so any chat service would need to be Linux friendly
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got a Toshiba Satellite a505s6020 that's been running ubuntu 10.10 flawlessly for some time now. However I've come across something I can't figure out. My laptop has an internal web camera, but I'd like to use the Microsoft HD lifecam here > [URL]. The microsoft usb cam works just fine in skype, and what gets me is the chat rooms "options" let's me select the usb cam, but still runs the internal. Other than disabling the internal? I'm all for disabling the internal if It'll make the USB one work in the chat.

View 1 Replies View RelatedToday I wanted to make my webcam work in a flash chat. I added myself to the video group and added export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so to my ~/.basrc file Then I loggued in again... and the problem is:
If I open a shell and start firefox from there (as a regular user), webcam will work ok. If I start Firefox from the top bar, it will NOT work. I checked preferences and it does not seem to do anything weird anybody has a clue? It seems weird to have that pretty top toolbar and not be able to use it.
I'm using 9.10 on acer aspire one (not the netbook remix).im using the default messanger client empathy.everything else works fine but when i try to video chat the video chat begins but if the other person even moves a litte or even nods his head then the video becomes so choppy that u cant see anything and then after 5 min comes back to normal for a second or two.i have all the latest updates and gstreamer0.10-ugly-multiverse which is required for video chat b/w empathy and gtalk.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI wonder if anyone here has succeeded in streaming the video of a local webcam to the internet? Some research has turned up webcam_server Project Home Page but unfortunately it only supports v4l, not v4l2 and is no longer maintained. It seems to be possible with VLC server, but I'm a bit reluctant, because their repo is said to break other things. I still have 11.1 here.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running OpenSuse 11.2 64 - I have vmware Player and Vbox loaded and working fine - I have XP running in each VM - I have a Creative Live cam and was accessing it in each of the VM's, because I can't access it in Suse. This worked very well until recently. I received updates for Suse, one of which was a kernel update - I installed and rebooted. All of a sudden my time to boot took for ever - however - once up and running every thing seemed fine. After a few boots the system started booting normally and the video from my live cam in both VM's is garbled and and essentially not working right.
Video seems to work correctly in all other areas - I removed the creative software and reinstalled in each of my VM's No change. One last thing - I recently (a week or so before my problems) installed an Nvidia video card. I previously used on board video (also Nvidia) I had no problems either in the VM's or Suse until the kernel update. I have removed Vbox and reloaded and set it up (/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup) problem still there.
My OS is:Linux 2.6.31.12-0.2-desktop x86_64
New Video is: G96[GeForce 9500 GT] Driver - nvidia
Have searched and not found much to show/tell me how to go about sending video to a web. The code for the page and the way to tell the camera to send or ftp or ...?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having problems with ffmpeg. My goal is to capture a video stream from my webcam and feed that into a webcam-capturing program. But to get that to work, I will need ffmpeg to work. I need the following command to work, but I get an error:

OpenSUSE seems to have an issue picking up and working with my newer webcam. This webcam does work with linux, it works with Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid and Linux Mint 9 Isadora but openSUSE 11.3 doesnt seem to like it. Information about webcam drivers seems to be missing now, I tried the drivers repo but no luck. Cheese freezes and WXcam comes up with a green screen with no video. This is a gateway product by my understanding but it seems to be linux compatible, especially with the Linux 2.6.34 kernel that both Ubuntu and openSUSE use right now. But for some reason its not quite clicking with openSUSE 11.3
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn [URL] I can right-click on a flash video and have the option to access "local settings" under "Settings" to specify configuration for webcam, mic, etc. But in Facebook I need to adjust a setting and the "Setting" option for local config is gray-ed out, I can't access it.
I'm running OpenSUSE 11.4, and I've seen this in GNOME and KDE within Firefox.

My VX3000 webcam seems to be recognized by skype and kopete, however the image is terrible (green screen with some colour-ful dots at the top).
Here is some output that might shed some light on the issue:

video playback is like I have applied a blueish sepia filter over it. And this is just the playback from totem player or mplayer, and not the playback from ..... (and generally online streaming) - this works just fine. this messy video playback also appears when I use cheese to capture video with my webcam. Note that the preview picture of the video file on nautilus has the natural colours it should have.
