OpenSUSE :: When Try To Start My XP Virtual Box Stuff - No Bootable Medium Found - System Halted

Jan 8, 2011

There is something that I am not getting here. I get the following when I try to start my XP virtual box stuff. I take it that I actually need an XP disk to do this?

FATAL: No bootable medium found! System halted.

Here is a capture of what I have setup for XP virtual.

Ubuntu :: Disk Required To Run Virtual Box OSE - Fatal No Bootable Medium Found

May 13, 2010

Alright story is: i needed apache tom cat to work on my project, i don't wish to install it in ubuntu so i can keep my system clean and fast. I installed virtual box OSE. Do i need a disk to run? Cause it says "Fatal no bootable medium found system halted" Edit: alright i inserted my winxp disk and now it is installing, i need to know if any change i make will damage my computer? Since i allocated only 10GB to this virtual disk, now it is formatting it in NTFS...i hope it won't have any conflict with ubuntu's ext4 file system.

Ubuntu Installation :: Start The Computer And The System Halted After The First Logo Showed?

Mar 20, 2010

The system asked me to reboot and I just shut down the computer. Some hours ago, I wanted to start the computer and the system halted after the first logo showed of Ubuntu, after 15 minutes waiting, nothing happened. I tried to push keys on the keyboard, nothing helped (I even couldn't put on CAPS or num lock on the keyboard). After a secoind reboot I didn't even saw the Ubuntu logo. When there's a black screen, it just sits there.I have no idea if there was a kernel update (I assume there was, because the system wanted me to reboot)

OpenSUSE Install :: Minor Updates - Fatal Error - System Halted

Mar 1, 2010

Since yesterday my computer behaves really strange. I fear it's a hardware issue. At most I did some minor updates, but no big software or OS change.

When I turn it on it goes immediately to [url]

I guess it reads

Code:
Chasis intruded
Fatal Error... System Halted.

So this happens before the boot manager... When I press the reboot button it goes to the boot manager and works seemingly fine - all I noticed that it doesn't remember the time, or better remembered the time form the last usage but doesn't count it forward. While using the time seems to pass in a normal speed.

What could this be? Some chip on the mainboard broken? Some BIOS virus (does something like that exist?) Or maybe just a cable which got lose?

I don't know which other informations could be helpful. I built it myself some years ago and the parts are pretty random (back then I didn't even know about linux compatibility nor used it at all). I have a dual boot with openSUSE 11.2 and windows xp, but the network card is deactived in xp for a year at least already.

Ubuntu :: Mounting DVD - No Medium Found

Jan 13, 2010

I can not get this DVD to mount for love nor money. It works fine in the crappy Windows POC I just pulled it from to replace a DVD that was doing a similar thing. I'm guessing the last update sent something wonky.

Code: #:/dev$ sudo mount /dev/scd0 /media/cdrom1
mount: /dev/sr0: unknown device
#:/dev$ dmesg | grep dvd
[ 6.485877] sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 48x/48x writer dvd-ram cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray fstab .....

The above is stuff that other threads all over the internet seem to ask for with mount related problems but most of it is semi-gibberish to me. I've learned tonight what a mount point is, how to make one, what the columns in fstab is, how to (sort of) use the mount command in the CLI, that I might want to look in dmesg for stuff using grep, that google sometimes has more noise than signal and that I don't want to fix computers for a living.

Errors like mount: no medium found on /dev/sr0 are fairly common too BTW. I'm going spare and spent what should have been a chilled out night of DVD watching getting stressed and digging about in the guts PCs. Had I known it was a hardware problem I would not have bothered changing drives over. There is a disk in the drive and the errors are the same if that is a CD or a DVD.

But after installing the "GRUB/LILO", it does not chain with the boot loader "REFIT" that I use. Each time I try to boot into "Windows/openSUSE", it shows a message: no boot device found, insert boot disc". So why isn't the "GRUB/LILO" working?

I using an old 1999 PC 512 MB RAM used to have W-2000. I had difficulties getting CD to be boot drive. I had to remove floppy drive to stop it from being the first drive. I'm using the Linux Starter Kit with Ubantu Live 9.10. My PC was having issues so I skipped the dual boot and went straight to a clean install. I had to double click on WUBI in the disk directory to get the install started. Install appeared to be going fine about 60%... then I got distracted to fix lunch for sick kid. When I came back screen was black and I could not wake up screen with mouse or keyboard. I turned off PC.. restarted and have message that says NO ROM BASIC System Halted.

Ubuntu Security :: Incompatible Processor System Halted

Apr 27, 2011

The computer went into low graphics mode all by itself and then later threw a error that said incompatible processor system halted!the computer was getting really slow and made alot of noise.later the computer did something stranger..it restarted but normally when my computer normally restarts it bypasses the password page setup in bios of the computer. This time I still had to enter a password before it could reboot.Another thing...when it the ethernet cable was connected to the computer (internet connection was on) it was slow when it was unplugged it was not.I have read that unless you're running a server or something it is highly unlikeley you'll be hacked.

Ubuntu Installation :: Install From A Working Live Cd But Got Medium Not Found Error

Feb 23, 2011

heres what happenned:

1. had working xp install on 320 gb hard disk with only one partition.
2. backed up and used easeus to shrink and create new partition on same hard drive.
3. tried to install from a working live cd but got medium not found error.
4. looked for fix but didnt find it so i used wubi to install it to the partition i created.
5. worked but annoyingly slow so looked for guide to switch from wubi to full install.
6. followed guide and it installed to a new partition i made with gparted and it formatted that one to ext4 but i still had the wubi install which i didnt want. (btw, non-wubi is much > wubi install).
7. went to xp to uninstall wubi, delete wubi partition, and grow full ubuntu install partition with easeus. easeus requires reboot.

8. restart comp to find an error that said no partition found and something else about grub rescue.
9. try live cds but hard drive not detected and tried win7 and xp but they didnt even get into setup
10. make plan: get bro to format my hardd disk using his compyter so i csn try ubuntu onw more time

i got a bunch of different types of errors but im really close to giving up on it entirely.

How can I go by doing that and also setting up an apache server to be able to connect through network. Right now I have apache/linux/mysql running it works when i go to localhost, but I would also like to let all the computers in office to access it. I would guess that will deal with virtual host which I know how to setup. I just need to setup an IP.

eror II: Kernel driver not installed (rc=-1908)

The VirtualBox Linux kernel driver (vboxdrv) is either not loaded or there is a permission problem with /dev/vboxdrv. Re-setup the kernel module by executing

'/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup'

as root. Users of Ubuntu, Fedora or Mandriva should install the DKMS package first. This package keeps track of Linux kernel changes and recompiles the vboxdrv kernel module if necessary.
