I installed a fresh 11.2 and perform a Stable KDE update and a complete update with "Yast Online Update" and now there is no sound in my laptop.
My sound card is HDA Intel and uses snd_hda_intel driver.
I might have a different problems as I have a newer laptop, a HP dv6-2170us with intel i5 cpu. I had no wireless with the 2.6.31 kernel so I upgraded to the 2.6.34 and had to manually compile my wireless driver. Everything works great now except the sound issue. I thought it use to work out the box with the old kernel, but then again I might be wrong. I knwo it works in the "other os" dual booting and all. Its a not a huge issue, but hopeing I could resolve it. Here is some of the info from reading some of the other posts. the model=dell-vostro I just tried to see if that works, which is doesnt, so thats why thats in my sound.conf file.

Have I missed anything? I have tried the fix here: Audio coming from both headphone and laptop speakers - Page 3 - openSUSE Forums page 3 about adding a repo and upgrading, but that upgrade wants me to revert back to the older kernel in which case I dont have wireless support or acpi working proporly, so thats not a doable thing for me.
I don't know what to do. All my attempts to make changes with alsa-mixer failed.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWell, the gdm issue was pretty easy to solve. Just reinstalled NVIDIA video drivers in runlevel 3.
But sound seems to be a litle more dificult. Before I spend some hours, I would like to ask if some had the same problem.
By the way, here is my alsa-info.sh url.

No problems, but afterwards my sound is completely gone and under hardware when I click the sound option on the speaker icon I get nothing listed under hardware.
I am using the HP DV2810 US notebook PC. With this being listed as the audio device.
I will also list the updates from my synaptic history. I'm having to use Win7 . And i only wanted that for the few games that one run well in wine.

It detects theres 2 sound cards in alsamixer and under cards i see HDA-Intel - HA ATI SB and HDA ATI SB at 0x90400000 irq 16. I think HDA-Intel is suppose to be selected not what is currently selected which is HDA ATI SB. If thats not an issue I'm not sure what is and I've tried reinstalling Squeeze and it still hasn't fixed the issue.

However, while video still works, and I can receive audio, the microphone does not pick up any sound. I don't think it could be a hardware issue- it worked so recently and my machine has experienced no tramatic events since, but I can't pick up any sound using Sound Recorder either. How could I go about diagnosing and fixing this problem?

I don't know why and when exactly this happened, but now when the stereo is connected, i get sound from the laptop speakers and stereo speakers simultaneously.Is this a bug? I'd like to mute only my laptop speakers but haven't figured out how. If I follow the instructions here [URL] then I can get my microphone to work.
My speakers worked fine right out of the box, but the headphone jack does not. When I follow the instructions here [URL] and install the alsa backports then my headphone jack works properly, but when I shutdown my computer I get a loud crackling/popping sound. Uninstalling the alsa backports stops the crackling, but then the headphone jack doesn't function.
I have a problem with headphone sound with my Ubuntu 10.04 on laptop Acer Aspire TimelineX 4820 TG. When I insert the headphones, the sound from speakers stop, but there is no sound in the headphones. Manipulating with the alsamixer did not help. Modifying /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf also did not help.

After a year of giving up how to fix it, I looked it up again and was told to update my alsa drivers. I updated my drivers to version 1.0.23 and my sound was working but was still acting weird. For example, my sound would play a song, in Adobe Flash, at its highest volume even if the volume wasn't at max. I was just happy that I didn't have to reload the drivers, but this was another problem.Now, for some reason, sound just doesn't work. I just installed the latest version of Ubuntu, and sound worked fine out of the box. I ran software update, and after the reboot, no sound. it knows there is a sound card, but no sound is coming out of any port. i done everything in the sound problems guide, and nothing worked. My soundcard is a Creative Sound Blaster Live! pci.

I recently bought a set of 2.1 speakers, all is fine. I like to listen to my DAB radio through them. When I boot up, (runlevel 3), sound is there via the mic/line-in jack, but as soon as KDE starts, the sound cuts. I can get it back by:~>alsamixerand then F6 and then scroll to mic, switching to ON and slider up to full and then mic boost up to 65% or so.Can I tell something in KDE to default to mic/line-in on?kmix does not give the full picture I see in other's posts, like here:ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hostingjust a single slider under each tab, like this:

1) Originally, my laptop came with Windows Vista. Then I got a SUSE linux 11.0 CD, let it make a partition and installed Suse 11.0. Since Suse11.0 isn't updated any further I would like to change to Suse 11.3 (or whatever is newer). How should I proceed? (I can't find my old Windows Vista CDs and would like to KEEP THE PARTITION, thus formating all isn't an option)
2) In order to make a backup I bought a portable hard drive from iomega (USB 2.0). Then I noticed that it is formated in NTFS. SUSE 11.0 doesn't seem to like it --- what should I do? Can I reformat it somehow?
3) Suse 11.0 doesn't like my sound card. Thus I couldn't Skype or listen to music --- do you know if this problem is solved under Suse 11.3?

Maybe it's just an Amarok2 problem, but whenever another app (for example Konversation) plays a sound file, the audio instantly cuts out (in Amarok2) and will not come back unless I quit Amarok2 and restart it.
Amarok2 has only the options - "HDA ATI SB VT 1708S Analog" or "PulseAudio" (which is NOT installed).
