USE(SUSE 11 AS)system to existing windows 2003 domain...but now the problem is...i m not able to login using the domain users although i can see the users list if i run wbinfo -u
I have installed OpenSUSE and could able to join to Windows 2008 domain but I am not able to login to SUSE system using domain ID. It is showing "Unable to authenticate user."
I'm trying to integrate my Ubuntu PC into an Active Directory domain using Samba, Kerberos and Winbind. The task I'm trying to accomplish now is to automatically connect user folder from DFS server when domain user logs in. I created a simple (contains one line ) script to do that:
Code: #!/bin/bash mount //<server.domain>/Users$/$1 /media/dfs_user -o rw,user=<domain>\$1
I need to run this script with root privileges and parameter $(whoami) after domain user logs in so it results in command:
Code: mount //<server.domain>/Users$/<username> /media/dfs_user -o rw,user=<domain><username>
What should I do? Is there any other better way (seems little unsecure like this)? I was thinking about adding this into /etc/fstab file, but don't know how to tell it what is the actual name of logged in user... I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 x32.
I planned to use Squid on my W2k3 network, because I'm tired of ISA2k6.it's a factory in itself. So, I just installed a VM with OpenSuse 11.2 and joined it to my AD W2k3 domain. After correcting the clock problems, everything is running fine except a strange feature that I was not able to solve. After a reboot, I'm not able to login with a domain account. I enter the username/password, choose the domain then it the input fields become grey for 1-2 seconds then the password field is reset and nothing happens. The most strange part comes when you logon with the local root account. You login as root, then logoff and login with any domain account : works like a charm..
With Kerberos it's possible to join and login in Windows domain. The easiest way to do is this or I think so...
When installing likewise-open, it installs Kerberos also. I have no idea what are those realms and other stuff. There's some guides (also by Microsoft!), but it's gibberish for me. My native language isn't English, so half of those words go in one ear and out from the other.
I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise SP1 and I'm able to join the domain with my Windows clients. Now I want to join with Ubuntu but I have no idea what to do.
Like what's FQDN how to find out domain's FQDN Whats Kerberos realm and what it should contain how to install Kerberos correctly and so on
After my last upgrade from 10.? to 10? my users' (kids) were unable to login. I tried to fix it and could not find anything wrong. Now I have upgraded to 11.? and the problem persists. The users could still login by selecting an older version at the prompt during boot up.
I deleted there account and reinstall the user and still they could not login. I added a completely new test user and could not log that one in either. The system excepts the password, waits a several seconds, then the mouse curser changes to the spinning circle. The hard drive lights flash for many seconds then eventually the hard drive stops flashing. I have let it sit a long time and it never continues. Tonight I came home tried to login and it is doing the same thing to me tonight. I ran fix packages, fix grub and everything else I could think of and could not log in.
Finally I logged in to the oldest version on there and it let me in.? The screens are all the same but the desk top is entirely different? I have never seen one like this. I think its like the new version of fire fox, with every thing moved around. Icons down the side. Menu's hidden at the top? I can probably get used to that but I need to able to login, and my user's to login?
After upgrading FEdora 13, user ravi was added. Then after few days neel was added. Both of the users were already existing. So when attempting login to neel, we found that every file is owned by ravi. So we did$chown -R neel:neel But after that problem started and when we rebooted the machin, there were no list of users on login screen. (then I connected to that comp remotely, it worked, but somehow I was not able to switch to root) It says incorrect password (though I new it very well). So I went to maintenance mode and changed the root password, and rebooted. Still problem persists. Now I am not able to login as root (from anywhere, login screen , terminal, remote)No list of usernames on login screen ( but i can choose, other and type login-password)
I have just upgraded my laptop from F8 to F10, and I am unable to login to the system as root user.At login, it provides 2 options, one is the user I created and another called 'other'.On selecting 'other' and providing uid/passwd as 'root/<rootpassword>, it says "Unable to Authenticate User"!!However, when I tried to access my windows partition, it happily accepted the root password
I created an account using the following command:#useradd -g developers john and successfully changed the user password with:#passwd johnThe user is unable to login using the New Password using SSH. As a root I can login (#su - john) with no problem.
My case is that, the LADP user connected could not login via SSH. This user could login in the system console. And all the other users could login within ssh. And I was wondering whether any one could suggest which place to check next. And here is the detail: I was using SUSE 11.3 when I met this error. PAM module is used, and the corresponding files in /etc/pam.d/ have all been updated. Here is what I've added:
I am unable to login as normal user. I am sure that my password is correct. What are the possible reasons behind this and also the solutions. My /etc/password and /etc/shadow files are good and my login haven't set to /etc/nologin.
Actually this a question asked to me by a Novell(Suse Enterprise Linux) Regional manager.
I am having Opensuse 11.0. Recently I upgraded my system including kernel. Now I am unable to login in X as user. However I can login as root and working perfectly. I can login as user in failsafe as well as after pressing ctrl-alt-f1 when login screen appears.I have tried following---1. Emptied /temp folder and 2. deleting and adding user.
i have registered two domain names that i want to use to connect to my ubuntu server. I was wondering how to do this i was looking at bind9 but that didn't work that great. The server is behind a router with firewall i can connect to it using the external IP address but i like to use the two domain names if that is possible.
When i try to login with AD credentials on Ubuntu 10.10 and the user has is password almost expire, the gdm hang and display the message "your password will expire in ... days"
If i login with any other user without that restriction, it works flawless. does anyone know what configuration file i need to change to bypass that problem.
If I'm getting good at anything with Fedora, it would be making mistakes. I have Fedora 12 installed and it was running fine until I attempted to set the path in bashrc and cshrc for jdk. Now I am unable to login using the only user account I created at install. When I enter my password the login screens goes blank then my mouse pointer appears with the circling dashed loading symbol for a few secs and then brings me back to the login screen asking for my password again.
here is Maneesh Kumar Dhiman from india persuing B.Tech in computer science and Engg. i am using ubuntu 9.04 and i have the problem with it that i cannot being able to update it by following ways:

I had successfully installed centOS,i am able to login as root.I created local users. But unable to login via console and FTP.As per the logs there were some LDAP issue,so i disabled LDAP and disabled PAM config as well. Now i am able to login to the FTP with the local users created.unable to login to the centOS console with the local user.
I am currently working on a project related to packet sniffing which has been implemented using the concept of raw sockets. I am using C language.I am able to decode the following details from the packets received from a local network, like:
source and Destination Mac Address source and Destination IP Address source and Destination port no
But I am having trouble in decoding the domain name when an user in the local network is logging onto internet. For eg. if a user in the local network is trying to log on to web using his browser say if he has logged on to url then from the packet I need to get the following details
source Mac Address from which user had logged on source IP Address from which user had logged on domain name
Recently I deleted files from my root/share folder in an attempt to remove a program which had made the system virtually unusable. Upon reboot of the system I accessed the partition I had just edited and I found that I was unable to login using the login manager, every time I hit login it just returns me to the same screen displaying the message: unable to start session.
I have a nagios server monitoring around a 1000 hosts in our office. To make things easier, i've integrated apache into Active Directory for the website authentication. This works perfectly, however the Nagios website uses alot of CGI scripts to display information I get the message below when trying to show CGI scripts with an AD user. Local users work fine. 403 Forbidden You don't have permission to access /nagios/cgi-bin/status.cgi on this server. I tried adding the AD users to the cgi.conf file within Nagios (which works for local accounts) but it doesn't seem to work even with this change.
In the office there is a local network with samba+openldap PDC. The local domain name is company.net. The company desided to create a corporate Website on a remote hosting and desided that the site's domain should be company.net which is same as local network's domain name. So now it is not possible to reach that corporate website from within the company's local network because, as I guess, bind9 which is installed on above menioned PDC looks for company.net on a local webserver. Is there a possibility to let people from this local network browse the remote site?
Having installed Debian 7 on an old machine from a Liinux Format Magazine DVD I was unable to log in as a specific user. I can login as root and use useradd etc but when I logout of root I still cannot login as a user and nor will the machine accept my root password. I have to shutdown and reboot to get back into root. I'm using O'Reilly's Linux Pocket Guide from 2004 for the commands. Could it be that things have changed?
Whenever I try to use the sudo command in the terminal I get the message unable to resolve host, then my computer name. Here's some command line output with some files which I think may be causing the problem. I have Operating Systems homework and need sudo
I have 2 servers A & B. both installed on different locations. both can ping and traceroute each other but there is no load shareing (both performing same functionality but independently). when i checked of server B /var/adm/messages, i can see that server A is trying to connect to server B but getting failed. and this is going on for long time. i mean it's not like someone manually try to enter but automatically its happening. i have already checked in cronjob but there is nothing. here are the logs,
May 3 11:01:27 Server A sshd[19269]: [ID 800047 auth.info] Failed password for user_id from 10.xxx.xxx.xxx port 53350 ssh2 May 3 11:01:27 Server A sshd[19271]: [ID 800047 auth.info] Failed password for user_id from 10.xxx.xxx.xxx port 53351 ssh2 May 3 11:01:27 Server A last message repeated 2 times
I recently installed likewise 6.0 on a Ubuntu 10.04 box and I was able to login as a Domain user. However my domain user account is not showing on the "User Settings" panel (I can only see locally created accounts). And if try to change login shell by typing "chsh", then it tells me user "DOMAINusername" does not exist in /etc/passwd.
