I am a newbie trying to enable virtual hosting and run it on a local machine without fqdn. I checked the http://9.9.9.92/ (my IP address) site and saw my (default) page. I would like to virtuly host a asdf.com If virtualy hosting is setup properly - how do I access the new setup? Just type http://asdf.com ? or is there more to it?

I am having vitural hosting around three websites using Centos. I need to type in the full domain name include www to enter the 2 of the vitural hosting sites. Assume I having a linksys router with port forwarding function, I have three seperate machines with different private address connect to the same linksys router. Can I entry all private address forward to port 80? Does it work? If I insist to host website on three machines, does that mean I need 3 static IP and 3 linksys router? After that I would like to ssh into the guest from the host but just the ssh command doesn't work. firewall is disabled on guest. the ip I use is the one that ifconfig shows when I run it on guest. sshd is running.
When I create virtual ethernet interface and do a ping -I <v_int> <host> the outgoing address is the one of the physical interface and NOT the virtual interface.Is there no chance that trafic will go out with virtual interface address??Incoming trafic is done well i.e. responds to the virtual interface have the virtual address.
My problem is that I have 2 modems and want to check both default gw behind the modems.
If I do a "normal" ping both are reachable over default route even the modem which is not the default route will not work because ping goes over the working modem.So I have 2 routing tables and want to route the virtual interface to one modem the other to the other modem
I have ubuntu-8.04.1-server installed on virtual machine. It works perfect. Now, I made copy of this virtual machine. I started that copied machine and it works fine, except one thing: network does not work!
I have several others VMs with freeBSD, openBSD or Windows on it, but only ubuntu machine hes network problem after coping. I tried some other VM with ubuntu on it - same problem! I downloaded VM with ubuntu - same problem.I take a look into /etc/network/interfaces file and it looks just as it should (same as before coping) but ifconfig command returns parameters for lo only (before coping there was eth0 and lo).
I tried to yum install libvirt but it says it is the latest.I have also checked that i have the latest qemu-kvm virt-manager virt-viewer python-virtinst.I understand that the error msg says that it is unable to find that certain file, libvirt-sock, and i dun think i have it either.

Everything is well configured and web pages are shown correctly from Internet (outside the local network) using the domain or the public IP.The issue is if I try to see that web pages (using the domain or the public IP) from inside the local network. In that case the router config page (192.168.1.1) is shown instead of the web pages.From inside the local network I'm only able to see the web pages using the internal IP address (192.168.1.XX).

I was told that I could create multiple websites ona single machine useing Virutual Hosts.I have RedHat Linux 9 running Apache/2.0.40. I want to make offline test sites to learn with and have read it is as simple as changing /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf file but I have not been able to make it work yet. I have just finished bulding a virtual web hosting server on my CentOS-5.5 x86_64 linux box with several websites hosted and its working fine. Now I have to build and FTP service in this webhosting server so that i can create indviudal login for each website and provide access to thier respective web directory only. This is where I am stuck. I have been trying to find out some docs and instructions to achieve this but in vain.
What I need is to configure an FTP service in the web server so that individual owner of websites can login to thieir respective web directories only and upload and download files as well as create, delete and modify the contents of their web directory.
I tried to authenticate using ntlm proxy authentication service and my computer could not retrive the IP address. Currently I am using fedora cammbridge
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a few ubuntu machines in my house, 1 mythtv backend server with other services as well, 2 mythbuntu frontends boxes hooked up to tv's etc. I wanted to push the audio from my laptop out over pulseaudio to the machine connected to the AV equipment.
I could not see any other pulseaudio sinks in padevchooser... this lead me down the road to investigating avahi.
When I run avahi-browse on my laptop (hydrogen) it only returns the services published from itself:

My laptop has vmware on it, and I've changed the vmnet intefaces to not support multicast so avahi ignores them. but I'm still at a loss to why my laptop can't see the other machines on my network with avahi (mdns).
I have a reverse ssh connection established from a remote machine to my local machine - it is established with autossh from the remote machine - I know it is connecting because I can see the two ssh processes on the local machine - and, when I kill the two ssh processes, two new ssh processes are immediately established. But I cannot login to the port on the local machine. I have tried everything - it simply refuses to connect. This remote machine is miles away and not readily accessible.

I am running vsftpd-2.2.2-3 on my Fedora 12 box. This box has multiple IPs. What I am looking for is make vsftpd listen on those multiple IPs and when a user FTPs to a certain IP, they get landed to the home directory that has been configured for the IP.
This feature is there in Proftpd and is called virtual hosting. I tried to find for Vsftpd such feature, but couldn't find out exactly how to implement in it. how to implement virtual hosting in Vsftpd?

I'm having a problem with what seems to be an iptables thing or something easier than that, Enough here is the question I can get apache to run on the local machine by either going to http://localhost or by the ipaddress on the CentOS machine. But for some reason when I try to take a look on my laptop (on the same network) and try to go to it using the IP address is doesn't go. I can ssh from my laptops but it will not open the apache startup page.
