generally whenever there is a wifi connection available fedora will detect and i can establish the connection but today i am not able to see any such wireless network available. I am in a wifi accessible area and i need to know how this can be rectified. i tried iwlist scan in the terminal but that doesnt seem to work
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 server 64bit. I'm trying to get my ASUS PCE-N13 wireless PCI card working for searching and connecting to wireless networks. But I have no networks applet appearing in the panel. system->preferences->sessions has the Network Manager enabled The Notification Area is added to the panel. system->preferences-Network Connections-->Wireless[tab] shows a pink box, with no available connections.
I have a Linksys AE1000 wireless adapter and I used the post found here to install the drivers.I've figure I installed the drivers successfully because when I use "iwlist ra0 scan" I get a listing of available networks. The problem is, I can only connect to unsecured networks. For instance,
Code: sudo iwconfig ra0 essid "unsecure network" The above command connects me but the one below doesn't
I have used ubuntu in the past but had a lot of hardware issues with it and unfortunately moved back to windows (( BUT i have tried Ubuntu again and all seems to work great except wifi My wifi connection is sort of working because when i run SUDO IWLIST SCAN it does pull up all available networks. But in the network manager icon on the panel i left click but i see no networks and can't connect to anything. I WOULD LOVE TO keep Ubuntu and use it permanently but I must get wifi working or else this won't be possible.
This is probably the 1 millionth post about WIFI issues. I have tried many sources on the internet but cant get my wireless to work. I have been using another version of linux for long time. But recent edition of that particular linux does not support my wifi any more. Just recently i have tried SuSE and almost fell in love with it. The only problem, WIFI.
I got a Linksys WUSB54GC USB wifi stick which uses RT2800USB native driver. I installed SuSE from the scratch and it found the wifi stick installed the drivers. My only problem is it does not scan for wireless networks. I haev two wifi networks around here. I can connect to them with windows computer with the same wifi stick.
I have tried iwconfig iwlist ifup but i am stuck exactly what to do.
I know that my tuner is working as i can watch tv in xawtv. The hardware I'm working with: P4 2.8GHZ 512MB Ram Hauppauge 44981
I have added the card as both V4L and MPEG4 (I'm unsure which I'm supposed to use).
I setup the source to have "no grabber", and then set up input, when I do this, for V4L, there is no "Scan for Channels" option, when i set up input for MPEG4, there is that option, but when I click it i get an error, "Failed to open the card", but I can change the input on that page to the V4L input, i hit scan for channels, it scans and adds channels up to channel 22, where I get "No Lock"; it doesn't seem to do anything else from there.
So, how should I be using this card, and how can I know when its working with mythtv?>
I have configured a wireless pcmcia card using ndiswrapper. I'm sure that works, as with the command "iwlist wlan0 scan" gives me back the list of detected wireless networks. At this point I was wondering: is there a way to detect the new interface (wlan0) with network manager? Even after enabling the wifi card the network manager gnome applet always finds only eth0.
I'm trying to crack my wep password just for kicks, but I keep running into the same error. When I try to use airplay-ng for the packet injection, it always gives me the error " wlan0 is on channel -1, but the AP uses channel 6". I've tried setting wlan0 to channel 6 manually, but that doesn't help. I spent a while searching for a solution, but it seemed like each page had a different, usually highly complex solution, that still doesn't work. I have the most recent drivers for my wireless card, and it meets all the requirements. So, is there any solution to this that will actually work?
I have just upgraded my system to Fedora 14. One thing I noticed after running some applications on it is that it is not possible anymore to figure out on what frequency a wireless interface is using. If I set a wireless interface to monitor mode and perform the iwconfig or iwlist command, in the past, I could see the frequency used on the interface, but now, this information is not present anymore. My wireless interfaces are in monitor mode.
Has the frequency information been removed from iwconfig or iwlist commands? If it has, is there another way to report this information?
What does the Quality, Signal Level and Noise Level actually mean? Which should I be looking for when looking for good APs?Is Quality the same as RXQ in airodump?
The adapter I purchased (Zonet ZEW2508 ) uses the Ralink 2070 chipset - a fact that originally excited me because Ralink seems to be fairly loving to the Linux community. However, despite my best efforts I can't get the thing to work. Initially I tried following directions to set up the driver you can download from the Ralink website. The directions I found were written February first, and Ralink updated the driver February eighth - so as far as I can tell the directions no longer work. After screwing around trying to figure that out for a while I decided to give ndiswrapper a go.
Initially this seemed promising. I just harvested the drivers from the CD and followed one of the many ndiswrapper directions available - most helpful seemed initially to be the Ndiswrapper Troubleshooting Guide found in this forum, however the solutions offered there didn't work either. When I throw an ndiswrapper -l into the terminal it looks promising at first, it tells me the driver is installed and the device is present, but it just doesn't work. When I try iwconfig, or iwlist scan it tells me "no wireless extensions," and "interface doesn't support scanning" respectively. The only devices even listed are lo, eth0, and pan0. There's no wlan0 or anything of the sort.
PC seems to run fine in single channel mode but monitor reports no input in dual channel mode and memtest86+ lists from 1-3 errors per pass in single channel mode. Motherboard (Gigabyte P43T-ES3G) can't be set for the 1.65 volts required by the RAM (2x2 of OCZ3P1333LV4GK PC3 10666). The mobo voltage choices are 1.6 or 1.7 volts. I have tried both and increased the MCH voltage from 1.1 v to 1.2 v, but so far can't get it to run in dual channel mode at all and single channel mode seems to run fine but I still get errors in memtest86+. Also tried optimized Bios settings and loosened memory timings (from 7-7-7-16 to 8-8-8-27 and tRFC 60 to 70) and reset Command Rate from 0 to 2. CPU is Core 2 Quad @ 2.4 Ghz, PSU is rated at 400 watts, Video card is Gigabyte GT220.
Thinking about building a new system, with 4GB of DDR3 RAM. I am just wondering, which would you prefer: Dual-channel DDR3 or Quad-channel DDR3? Does one have better speed performance over another? Will one way keep your system cooler?
I installed squeeze on my eeepc 1015ped and downloaded the correct firmware-brcm80211 drivers but every time I scan for my network using iwconfig wlan0 scan or wicd, my computer completely freezes. I previously had a solid install running xmonad, and wicd was working like a charm (using the same broadcom driver) but i tinkered too much with it and decided to do a fresh install. I haven't quite run into a problem like this before.
I'm using wifi "usb card" from airlive with zd1211 driver in Fedora 12 OS. And I cannot access channel 12 and 13. Perhaps for US restrictions. But in EU are allowed. Any idea how to enable them?
iw phy told me the card has 14 channels width but last 3 are disabled.
I tried "iw reg set EU" but "iw reg get" still return me "Country:98"
Also set env. variable COUNTRY=SK and execute crda returns me: Failed to set regulatory domain: -22
in dmesg I can see the regulatory domain is first set to EU but when zd1211 is loaded it is set to US
i just installed ubuntu 10.04 on my computer, and tried to airodump, but noticed that its stuck on 11th channel, when i specified only channel 6 during scan, it gave me hosts from channel 6 and 11, but then i ran aireplay-ng and it runs on 11th channel as well, even when i put my card into monitor mode with a specific channel option. btw my chipset is AR9285 with ath9k driver. everything worked in backtrack. i also tried to reinstall aircrack which did not work.
I'm relatively new to Ubuntu, and have just installed 10.04 on a toshiba portege M100 laptop. Having got over the intel video chipset problems I tried to connect to my WLAN. Network manager would not connect. I tried switching to WPA, WEP and no encryption. No effect I still could not connect. I also noticed that network manager can find other APs much more quickly than mine.Haveing done some searching I tried removing network manager and installed wicd. Was good at finding the AP but reported it as operatingon channel 0. Still would not connect. I tried changing the AP channel to 6, suddenly everyting worked. I switched back to network manager (wicd got in a tangle over hidden networks). Still works.
Having scoured the web for help I found reference to 10.04 kernel suporting US channels. and that I should create a file /etc/modprobe.d/cfg80211, containing "options cfg80211 ieee80211_regdom=EU". I have tried this and it doesnt have any effect. I have noted that there are numerous variants of this advised by different people.Whilst at home I can operate my AP n a US channel, when I am on the move I cannot. I would like to get this working if at all possible. For info the wireless adaptor reported is:
I am trying to audit my wireless router due to someone in the neighbourhood hacking it, and have run into a few problems. When I run airodump-ng, everything works fine. However, when I try to get the .csv file and run "airodump-ng -w test --channel 6 --bssid ---------- mon1" (obviously with my the mac address of my AP instead of x's) I get this:
CH 6 ][ Elapsed: 4 s ][ 2011-02-02 17:48 ][ fixed channel mon1: -1 ] The problem is the [ fixed channel mon1: -1 ], because when I go to the next step to try to force a handshake, it says:
18:00:34 Waiting for beacon frame (BSSID:-----------) on channel -1 18:00:34 mon1 is on channel -1, but the AP uses channel 6
I have scoured the Internet for answers, and have seen several people with the same problem, but no solutions that work for me. I think it may have something to do with the driver. I really do apologise if this has been answered properly several times, but none of the solutions seem to be working in my case.
I work for a firm of solicitors as the IT guy and I have been asked to assess the security of our network. I have recently bought an ALFA AWUS036H USB wireless adapter to help test the wireless networks. We have a few old devices that only run WEP, which I know from the start is bad. I'm trying to use the adapter with aircack. I issue the command:
[code]...
Now I set the adapter to channel 11 using airmon but running iwlist mon0 channel says the adapter is not running on any channel at all. Has anyone else experienced simular issues, and if so how was this resolved?
For some reason the unmentioned former disto, I could not get wireless networking under this configuration and a simple wlan0 interface, in case either cable were to sever it would retain a wireless. The bonding was done for speed, and I believe I can't get faster than mode=4.
I just setup a new LAMP server (CentOS 5.5 x86_64) box with channel bonding on NetXtreme II BCM5709 Gigabit Ethernet (IBM x3650 M3). The problem is I wasn't able to connect to this server when I'm in different VLAN's. This server also unable to ping different VLAN's. But everything works fine when I transact in the same VLAN.Here's the config:
I ought to understand the radio aspects of wifi better than I do. That said, is there a bad-good-best choice for wifi access point channel number? How does one select a channel number systematically (scientifically) rather than trial and error?
I'm trying to simulate a script for two UES connected with a high speed common channel. The file is the same I've used in not enhanced umts with some changes, and it worked perfectly. The changes are indicated in the EURANE guide.
There are two lines of code:
Code: $bs setErrorTrace 0 "UE1_trace_file" $bs setErrorTrace 1 "UE2_trace_file" that give me an error when I try to run the file .tcl I've downloaded files I needed from EURANE page: SNRBLERMatrix and Ray_corr-3kmh-300m-0-200s-UEnr1,Ray_corr-3kmh-500m-0-200s-UEnr1,Ray_corr-3kmh-700m-0-200s-UEnr1 I've tried to use the first and the third for UE1 and UE2 respectively

I edit: The definition of the connection of TCP agents and sinks was incorrect.
To use my home broadband, I am connected to a wireless router. How can I scan for other devices connected to that router? I am using Ubuntu 10.10.Is there both a GUI and CLI method? The IP of my router is URL... Please rename this thread title from 'How can I scan for other devices connected to that router?' to 'How can I scan for other devices connected to my router?
scan my network and check for files within a LAN, in a mixed Linux and Windows environment.Something like LAN spy for Windows. Is there a package or program like that for Linux?
I have a Lexmark interpret S405 all in one. I got it to work as a wireless printer with the downloads provided by Lexmark. I installed simple-scan (sane) to enable scanning. Simple scan works, since it sees another all in one printer in our house and is able to scan. In addition, simple-scan does work on the Lexmark when I hook it up with a USB cable. HOWEVER, for some reason simple-scan does not see my Lexmark, despite the fact that it is seen as a wireless printer. So, the following discrepancy is present
a) My Lexmark is recognized by my computer as a wireless printer
b) Simple-scan does work, since it recognizes and scans another all in one and it does work with my Lexmark when connected with a USB cable
c) Nevertheless Simple-scan does not recognize my Lexmark all in one wirelessly. My question to this distinguished form is: How can I make simple-scan recognize my Lexmark wireleslsy?
