Networking :: Connect To A Windows Computer Via A Wired Network?

cannot connect to my window computer using open SuSe
I am attempting to connect to my Windows Computer via a wired network on a sky router. When I tried with PClinuxOS it configured automatically. With the latest version of open SuSe 13.1this is quite a bit different. I have got as far as the network being auto and active with an Icon showing on the taskbar. However when I click on the Windows network Icon SuSe tyies to locate my Computer but then comes back with " failed to reteive share list from server. This is as far as I can get after several hours of trying.
Would it be possible to insert another wired network card into the router-connected computer, share the internet connection and be able to transfer files between the two?
F14 did not recognize my wired or wireless NIC upon installation. I have enabled network manager, what should I do from here? Here is my hardware specifications:
I have just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on an HP Pavilion dv6000 series laptop, dual-boot. Everything is working except the networking. It can see wireless networks, and when I type in the password for my wireless network, it tries to connect, then asks for the password again. When I plug in the Ethernet cable, again it tries to connect, but after a few seconds gives up and tells me I am now offline.
I just finished installing Ubuntu 10.10 64bit. During installation Ubuntu was connected to the network and was downloading updates. After rebooting though, it cannot connect to the network.
I just upgraded to Fedora 13 (from 10, using preupgrade), and I've gotten most things working again, but I'm still having trouble with the network.My wired connection (eth0) doesn't connect on boot (even though ONBOOT=yes in /usr/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0).Because of that, I figured I'd just leave eth0 connected manually (with ifup eth0). However, I then found that if I try to connect to a VPN like this, the system reverts to the "stalling every time I try to connect to the internet" problem that I had earlier.
Yesterday I moved my modem (wireless) to my living room so the PS3 detected a better signal. In doing so, I had to run a new ethernet cable from my living room where the modem is into my office where the computer is. I use ubuntu 9.10
For some reason I cannot connect to the internet now. When I scroll over the connection, it says wire connection 1 is active. I have my settings manually set. I did notice the MAC address field is blank...
I didn't have an issue before, but with changing cables and whatnot, something got messed up somehow.
I am unable to connect to any network, wired or wireless. Network-manager and wicd are both gone, as in no longer installed. Please don't tell me to apt-get anything. I have no network connection. I have tried downloading packages for nm onto a usb stick only to find myself in dependency hell which ended with the impassible error "Requires installation of untrusted packages".
My desktop doesn't seem to be connecting to the network until I login. This creates a problem if I'm trying to ssh in after a reboot. It's a wired connection. Any ideas?

if I install dhcp ip on my computer, then my computer will not connect to the network, but if I set it up with static ip then my computer will connect to the network. but after 5 minutes later my computer will be mounted from the server dhcp ip. and my computer is not connected anymore to the network dropped out again.
Hey I just installed linux on my computer and it will not connect to any wireless networks, it will detect them and say try to connect but for some reason wont. It does connect just fine to a wired network.
I have Ubuntu 9.10 setup on a test box. I am able to connect to my Win XP box shares but I cannot connect to my Win 7 (64 bit) box I get the usual 'Unable to mount location'. I can get to the Win 7 share from my other Win box so it is a valid share. I also cannot connect via the Remote desktop viewer. I am afraid that if I cannot get this going my Ubuntu experiment i over before it started.

how to configure rdesktop to connect to a Windows (XP/2003) computer, but going through a Terminal Services Gateway or connecting to a Terminal Services Server through TLS/SSL? The command line options or any on-line documentation I was able to find, omits this entirely. Using the Windows Remote Desktop Client (RDP6) you can configure Terminal Services Gateway connections from the Advanced Tab. I suspect that rdesktop, gnome-rdp, tsclient et el can't do this yet as they support up to RDP5. Currently I am using a WinXP VM to accomplish this, but would like to do this natively on my Linux box.
I have the following problem:I have to networks in remote places.I have an opnvpn client in one network that connects to the the router (openvpn server).My question is,can i connect the network where the openvpn client is,throught the computer with the client to the other network.If yes,how? (please make it an idiot proof anwser because i have limited knowledge about iptables). I was thinking like forwarding (the router in the network with the openvpn client is also firewalling with iptables) the request of the ip class of the openvpn network to the computer with the client,which masquarades the interface
I have a fresh install of CentOS 5.5. I am trying to browse to the Windows machines on my network (Places > Network Servers > Windows Network), but I get a blank window. I am able to ping the Windows machines using their IP address, but not by their name. What do I need to do to be able to see the Windows machines and also to connect to shared folders on these machines? So far I have tried starting SMB (via System > Administration > Server Settings > Services). I have also tried changing my smb workgroup to "WORKGROUP" (the default was mygroup which did not match my Windows machines.
So, I'm trying to set up a network with my windows netbook so the Ubuntu comp can access the internet through the netbook's wireless. Finally got the network set up, but can't access the internet on the Ubuntu comp. Also, the Ubuntu machine can recognize and access the files on the netbook, but the netbook only sees a computer named Owner-a6012abd6 which asks for a password.
The netbook is running Windows XP SP3, with an Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network adapter(internet) and an Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller. The Ubuntu comp is running Ubuntu 9.04.
I have just installed Ubuntu 10.4 LTS and would like to share this computer on my windows network. I understand that Samba is the way to go, but how do I configure linux with Samba so I can share files and printers? I am able to see my windows computers (vista and xp) but I am not able to see the linux computer with those machines plus I would like to change the network name of the linux machine if possible. Please any help and information will be much appreciated. Eventually I would like to server a printer from this linux machine to the other windows machines.
A friend came by, and we tried to log her on to our wifi network when she was having trouble accessing it with her Windows (Dist #) machine.he wifi network itself was set up with macs, and had standard, open settings as far as I could tell - no password, NETGEAR title of the network.The Windows computer prompted us for a Security Pin, which we gave it from the router, and then all of the computers already on the network got dropped, while the Windows machine got set up onto the wifi, renamed the network with its own username, and automatically set up a password.I'm currently on the network using LAN, but can't figure out how to set up the network through Ubuntu back to the original settings for the rest of the people that need to access the network.Specs:I'm running Ubuntu 11.0,The Windows machine is unknown right now. I'm on Windows 7 64bit and Ubuntu 11.04 64bit.Windows is on a net book with not so much hard drive space so I want to keep all my music and movies on my hard drive of my Ubuntu desktop. When I try to find my Ubuntu machine I get nothing though..No matter what though, Win7 simply will not see it on the network. Not even when I run "\ipadress"..If anything is there away to delete everything related to Samba and start over?
in linux world and have recently downloaded and installed ubuntu desktop 10.10i cannot connect to both wired and wireless ethernet on my laptopit tries to connect but fails in 30 seconds , it says"disconnected" while i am able to connect to the same in windows i have broadcom 4315 and i have tried both fwcutter and ndiswrapper but the problem persiststhe device id is 14e4:4315
I installed Fedora 11 on my computer with the live cd. If I run the live cd, the network connection is active. But, after the installation the cannt connect with the wired network. I must use an internal Server to connect the www. The server controlls my mac address and if it correct, the server allow the connection. ipconfig and the network manager can read the correct mac address. Why it does not work
I just installed ubuntu 8.10 on my pc. Before was XP installed. I formatted the system and installed ubuntu. Installation was successful. Problem is that I cant connect to network. My network card: realtek 8139 ethernet card

Also the connection is wired one with modem only it's reliance broadband. The wire is connected between modem and pc but there is no blinking of light for this connection. The wan is active and wan's light is blinking and when I was on xp on same pc there was no such problem.
I have a new install of Ubuntu 10.04.2 and the network will not connect. This is a dual boot desktop system with Vista. The Vista network is good. When I boot up Ubuntu, the network icon seems to be searching but then the message "Wired network disconnected - you are now offline" appears. I ran ifconfig -a & got:

I have a laptop with Ubuntu 9.04 on it. I wanted to try out fluxbox, so I did a apt-get install fluxbox. When I went into fluxbox, I was having trouble getting connected to my network wirelessly. I saw a post online that said to install wicd. So I did a apt-get install wicd. This removed the Gnome network manager (nm-applet) which I didn't realize that it would do. I wish to write a python code so that I can access a file on a windows computer on the network. I know the IP, Computer Name, Workgroup, username,password and any other neccesary detail of the computer. I also have the access to the computer to intall any software I may need to install on the said windows computer.
Kindly guide me so that I may access the files. The files are in a folder shared over the network but not on the windows drive of the computer.
I am able to access the files using gui (ubuntu 11.04).
