Networking :: Configure Rdesktop To Connect To A Windows (XP/2003) Computer?
Mar 22, 2009
how to configure rdesktop to connect to a Windows (XP/2003) computer, but going through a Terminal Services Gateway or connecting to a Terminal Services Server through TLS/SSL? The command line options or any on-line documentation I was able to find, omits this entirely. Using the Windows Remote Desktop Client (RDP6) you can configure Terminal Services Gateway connections from the Advanced Tab. I suspect that rdesktop, gnome-rdp, tsclient et el can't do this yet as they support up to RDP5. Currently I am using a WinXP VM to accomplish this, but would like to do this natively on my Linux box.

I have installed Fedora 11 and Fedora 8 on two differnt machines and I am doing an rdesktop to connect to a Windows 2003 server. The connectiviy is pretty fast when I try and connect the same from fedora 8 machine but it very slow when I try and connect it from fedora 11 system. I have tried using TS client but even then it is pretty slow. I have also tried using an Nvidia 8400 graphic card and Nvidia 9600 on Fedora11 OS.
I have also tried using Fedora12 OS as well. Is there any thing specific I can check on Fedora11? Or do I need to do some thing on my windows 2003 machine?

9.10 Ubuntu (Karmic) I could never connect from home using rdesktop, grdp, krdc, etc to the Windows Server 2003 R2 at the office: "Connection reset by peer" or the client simply remains "connecting to...", depending on the client used. Some days I work from home as if I'm sitting in front of my PC at the office.
So I used to boot in Win XP to run mstsc. But the XP partition doesn't boot anymore, no way to fix it, so I need to try the Ubuntu rdp clients.
I even installed a Win XP in a VM (VirtualBox), but now mstsc doesn't connect, it ends due to timeout (as if the Windos Server "knows" I'm not a windows family client)

I am trying to connect to my server at work through a VPN connection. I installed the PPTP VPN Connection Manager and configured the connection using the server's IP address and my user and password. When I click on the VPN connection in network manager, nothing happens. Do I need to install something else or is there an easier way to do this?
With my Windows 7 machine, it automatically connects using just the IP address and username and password. I was hoping to find an easy way to do the same in ubuntu.

I have Ubuntu 9.10 setup on a test box. I am able to connect to my Win XP box shares but I cannot connect to my Win 7 (64 bit) box I get the usual 'Unable to mount location'. I can get to the Win 7 share from my other Win box so it is a valid share. I also cannot connect via the Remote desktop viewer. I am afraid that if I cannot get this going my Ubuntu experiment i over before it started.

Using the following command, I can access a windows 2008 server: rdesktop -u myusername -d mydomain -p - -fP -r sound:local -r disk:myhome=/home/myhome serveraddress
connection works fine, and to start with I can see my local disk "\tsclientmyhome" and navigate around + open files. If I try to delete a file or rename a folder, I get an Error 0x8007048F:The device is not connected.
After this, I can no longer access the local disk. It says: "\tsclientmyhome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Attempt to access invalid address." As I understand it, I should be contacting myself about permissions... Can anyone tell me what I need to do on my local ubuntu machine to fix this?

host is windows 2003 server 64-bit
guest is ubuntu 9.04 server 64bit
Qemu : 0.11.1
Qemu manager: 7.0
from Qemu manager, if network card is using User Networking, it's a NAT and I can see that Guest Ubuntu has an ip address 10.0.2.15 and is able to access the internet. However, as Guest ubuntu is running server so I want to do use Tap networking and I assue with Tap, the Guest ubuntu will get an ip address which is in the same subnet as host machine by dhcp. so from Qemu Manager 7.0, I changed Network card to be:
NE2000PCI
Vlan Number =0
VLAN Type: Tap Networking
Mac address: tap0's mac address from host
TAP Network Adpator: Tap0
Note that tap0 was created by openvpn. and then fired Ubuntu guest, ifconfig shows no ip address on eth0 (which has the same mac address as Tap0) so the guest Ubuntu has no ip address and can't access public.

So I was trying to remotely access my XP laptop from my Ubuntu laptop. I read up on tsclient and rdesktop and tried both methods. For example, in the terminal, I typed:
rdesktop <host ip>
However, this came back with the following error:
autoselected keyboard map en-us.
ERROR: <host ip>: unable to connect.
After a bit of internet searching, I found the solution to the keyboard problem. I typed:
rdesktop -k en-us <host ip>
This yielded the following error:
ERROR: <host ip>: unable to connect.
No clarification, no explanation. nothing. Does anyone have any ideas?

I am switching from Windows Server 2003 to Ubuntu 11.04.
These are two different machines, the Windows Server has 2 2TB Hard drives in it, that are setup as a RAID 1. The data on the drives is irreplaceable. I've scoured the internet for about two weeks, trying to find the best solution. It seems like everyone else had a slightly different setup, or the was no solution.
The Ubuntu Server has a 40GB SSD in it. I just installed a 2TB Hard drive (same make and model of the two in the Windows Server) and made the filesystem for it ext3.
First thing I did was just throw the 2 2TB Hard Drives in the new server, and tried to set them up as a software RAID. After it prompt me to erase the drives, I strayed away from that idea.
My end goal is having Ubuntu machine completely replace the Windows machine, so I'll need to setup Samba (which I'm sure I can figure that part out).
How can I get all the data off the 2TB Hard Drives that are using NTFS onto a RAID in the Ubuntu machine with an ext3 filesystem?

I can get a connection to Windows server 2008 using rdesktop 1.6, but after a few seconds the connection is dropped and I get a message of and internal licensing error. I think rdesktop 1.6 uses rdp 5.x, and WIndows server 2008 uses rdp 6, but there must be some way to get a linux terminal server client to connect to Windows Server 2008.

I have a Belkin Wireless G F5D7230-4. I was attempting to configure a wireless card on another computer on my network when it froze during the reboot phase after making settings adjustments. The wired connection is fine, except on that computer that I was making the adjustments from. It won't connect at all. I plugged a friends netbook into the same wired line and it connected. Also there is no wireless signal on any laptops. Mac, Win Linux, don't matter. I tried all the various methods of resetting to default but still when I try to access the router's config page @ http://192.168.2.1 I get the error Code: The server at 192.168.2.1 is taking too long to respond.

I need to be able to log into (with X enabled) my home computer (running OpenSuse 11.4) from my work computer(running Windows XP). I was originally going to setup ssh on my home computer but then realized that I wouldn't be able to get my desktop this way.At work, we use windows remote desktop connection to log into other computers within our network, but I'm planning on asking my manager if I'm allowed to login to my home computer. If he accepts, I need a method to actually make it happen.I looked at FreeNX which seemed awesome but it doesn't seem to have windows support. To an extent that I would like to only allow my work IP to be allowed to even try an login. The bridge to cross here is the fact that I'm connecting from windows.

I am attending college and I am starting my first Linux class tomorrow. I am going to be learning Fedora 8 (why they don't upgrade, is beyond me) anyways, I also have a third Server 2003 class. We have our own hard drives that we put in the school computers. (80gb) But here is the problem, I know normally your suppose to install Windows first and then Fedora second and you do not have a dual boot problem.
However my Server 2003 class was suppose to be on Monday (which was labor day) so I didn't have school. I am going to be installing Fedora tomorrow first thing, then on this next Monday I will be installing Server 2003 on the same hard drive, but Windows will be going on second. So my question is, how would I fix the bootloader so I can still dual boot Fedora and Windows without having to reinstall Fedora again?

I am trying to backup my CentOS5.5 webserver to our local windows sbs 2003 server in the office. I have set up ssh and cwrsync on the windows server and have confirmed that the linux server can reach the windows server via the command: ssh RemoteUser{AT} It asks for a password and connects fine. However when I run this command to start the backup: rsync -avz -e ssh home/account/public_html/some/small/directory/ remote_user{AT}/cygdrive/c/backup/destination/directory/
I get this error after entering the password: protocol version mismatch -- is your shell clean? PS I had to use {AT} instead of the proper character as the forum thought I was posting a URL
