Ubuntu Networking :: Computer Doesn't Show Up In Windows Network

Sep 1, 2011

I'm on Windows 7 64bit and Ubuntu 11.04 64bit.Windows is on a net book with not so much hard drive space so I want to keep all my music and movies on my hard drive of my Ubuntu desktop. When I try to find my Ubuntu machine I get nothing though..No matter what though, Win7 simply will not see it on the network. Not even when I run "\ipadress"..If anything is there away to delete everything related to Samba and start over?

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager Icon Doesn't Show Wireless APs?

Feb 10, 2010

I deleted all APs in my Wireless Section of network manager. After that, the whole network manager icon disappeared. I added the icon back on the panel, but I don't think its the right one. It doesn't do the two green cicles thing when I connect my ethernet wire in. It also doesn't show any wireless AP when I left click on the icon. It doesn't even have an X mark on the bottom left of the icon when no network is detected

Networking :: User Is Connected To Network / But Doesn't Show Up In DHCP Leases

Jul 8, 2010

I have been routing network traffic based on MAC addresses, so we can distribute traffic evenly over a series of WAN IP addresses.Everything seems to be going well, but I have a very curious problem. One of the users can connect to the network without problem, but I don't see him in my network administration application (neither his MAC address or leased IP address).At the same time, I'm trying to identify other unknown computers on my network based on MAC addresses I don't have on file.

Ubuntu Networking :: Windows Can't Access Computer Through Network?

So, I'm trying to set up a network with my windows netbook so the Ubuntu comp can access the internet through the netbook's wireless. Finally got the network set up, but can't access the internet on the Ubuntu comp. Also, the Ubuntu machine can recognize and access the files on the netbook, but the netbook only sees a computer named Owner-a6012abd6 which asks for a password.

The netbook is running Windows XP SP3, with an Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network adapter(internet) and an Atheros AR8132 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller. The Ubuntu comp is running Ubuntu 9.04.

Ubuntu Networking :: Windows Computer Just Stole Wifi Network?

May 12, 2011

A friend came by, and we tried to log her on to our wifi network when she was having trouble accessing it with her Windows (Dist #) machine.he wifi network itself was set up with macs, and had standard, open settings as far as I could tell - no password, NETGEAR title of the network.The Windows computer prompted us for a Security Pin, which we gave it from the router, and then all of the computers already on the network got dropped, while the Windows machine got set up onto the wifi, renamed the network with its own username, and automatically set up a password.I'm currently on the network using LAN, but can't figure out how to set up the network through Ubuntu back to the original settings for the rest of the people that need to access the network.Specs:I'm running Ubuntu 11.0,The Windows machine is unknown right now. I'll repost if that will help.The wifi router is a Netgear Wireless N 150 WSR 1000, with the serial, mac, and security pin numbers.

OpenSUSE Network :: KNetworkmanager Connects But Doesn't Show Network

Jul 29, 2010

I am using a fully up to date openSUSE 11.3 and today, I decided to upgrade my KDE 4.4.4 to Factory. The update went without a hitch, everything continued to work, including all of the items in my workspace.So now I am running KDE 4.4.95 and it looks nice. I like the new System Settings where the advanced tab is gone and everything is presented in a single window.

The only snag I have hit so far, is that Knetworkmanager no longer displays the network that I am connected to when I right click its icon in the tray. The screenshot may make clear what I am talking about.I am currently connected via a wireless network, which nm-tool confirms. However, it is not shown in the Knetworkmanager menu.

OpenSUSE Network :: 11.2 Install - When Exit YaST The Network Doest Show Up - No Icon In The System Tray And Doesn't Even Try To Connect

Jan 16, 2010

I am relatively new at Linux and am having some problems with an install of openSUSE 11.2. I installed 11.2 on my Thinkpad X31 dual boot with WinXP. It seems to work very well except the network. I looked up swerdna's instructions on setting network cards up. I used YaST to try and set the system up as described in swerdna's instructions. Everything looks fine my network card and wireless card show up in the overview settings screen and everything sets up fine. But when I exit YaST the network doest show up no icon in the system tray and it doesn't even try to connect.

I did go into hardware to see if it was identifying my hardware and my network card shows up as "Thinkpad R40" and the wireless shows up as Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b. As far as I know this is correct. I have tried three other distro's and this one has gotten the closest to working so far.

Ubuntu :: GRUB Doesn't Show Windows 7?

Aug 15, 2010

I have a new netbook - "Eee PC 1005PE-PU27-BK" and installed Ubuntu Netbook Remix 10.04, Kernel Linux 2.6.32-24-generic. I love Ubuntu, but I also want to be able to access Windows 7 if I can. I've read some on GRUB, but the menu on startup isn't showing my Windows 7 instance. I've tried reinstalling GRUB, but when I run sudo update-grub, I still get this:

I know that Windows 7 is still on the system, I just can't access it.

Ubuntu :: Windows 7 Doesn't Show Up In GRUB2?

Apr 9, 2011

So, as the title says Windows 7 doesn't show up in GRUB2's selection menu, but it does show my Windows XP professional option that I had before Linux and then reinstalled. After searching very long for the problem in Linux and GRUB2 I decided to boot into XP, witch gave me the option for Windows 7 or older versions of Windows -> so I eventually can boot to it! So here is the real question: How can I make an entry for Windows 7 and for Windows XP? This is because I'd like to use a theme for GRUB and it would be to stupid to make GRUB look nice if I then come to a stupid screen of the Windows loader!

Ubuntu Networking :: One Computer Sees Network, The Other Computer Doesnt?

Nov 11, 2010

My wifes networked computer connected to the network just fine when it was Win XP. Now that Ive converted it to 10.04 (completely) it can see the network, but it just wont connect to it. I had no problem converting my computer to Ubuntu and it sees the network and accesses it great. Files, folders and hard drives are all shared. So, one computer connects great, the other does not.**I dont know what to do at this point.Here is the layout:My Comp (10.04) ---------......Main Network Comp (XP)Wife Comp (10.04) -------/The main network computer is XP as it has software on it we need that does not work in Wine. The main computer will have to stay XP. I cannot get my wifes computer to connect to the main system, although mine connects just fine. I dont know what the problem is. Her computer sees the network, but when trying to connect, it times out and says unable to connect.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Linksys WUSB600N And 11.2 - Ifconfig Doesn't Show A New Network Interface

Jan 24, 2010

I have a laptop running 11.2 with an internal Broadcom-based Wi-Fi card that's working fine. I'm trying to get 802.11n going with the WUSB600N. The USB ID on this device is 1737:0079. I believe this means it's a "V2" with an RT3572 chip.

No driver loads for this device when it's plugged in. If I do a "modprobe rt2870sta", a driver loads, and syslog shows "rtusb init" and "usbcore: registered new interface driver rt2870". But ifconfig -a doesn't show a new network interface. I've also tried building the RT3572 driver from the manufacturer's web site. It builds fine, and modprobe will load it, but I get the same results as the rt2870sta driver.
