View 6 RepliesI have Ubuntu 11.04 installed on my Toshiba Satellite C655 laptop. When I plug my headphones, they sometimes work, they sometimes don't, but that's not the main problem. When they do work, sound also plays out of the speakers. The only solutions I was able to find were for earlier versions, which don't work for 11.04.

It's working alright, except when we try to plug the external computer speakers into the sound jack in the front, there is no change; it keeps playing through the onboard speakers. My friend and I are getting pretty frustrated because we use those speakers to watch movies with, and the onboard speakers aren't sufficient. If I need to provide any other info, let me know and I'll do so.

My Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 running Fedora 8 continues to play sound out of the laptop speakers when external speakers are plugged in (and no sound out of the external). What can I do to diagnose/fix this? code...
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a normal install of Ubuntu 10.04 with KDE, gnome, and xfce. Every time i try to do something sound related on my computer, my speakers won't work. I tried headphones, still wouldn't work. The Ubuntu 10.04 documentation didn't help much, and I'm plugging in the speakers correctly.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a new smart one. Although I am a long time Blackberry user, I am open to switch to droid or Iphone. One frustration I had with Blackberry was that I was not able synch my phone with my home computer (ubuntu) when I checked two years ago. Since then I have been using a windows machine to synch.
Now I am looking for a new phone and I would like it to work with my Ubuntu computer. I am wondering what other Ubuntu users experience are on this issue.
I just switched to Ubuntu from Win7 and want to find replacement for my MS Office Outlook. I'm looking into purchasing a HD capture device, but the only one which says it supports Linux in the spec is the Blackmagic Intensity Pro (PCi Card). Here is a list of the ones which I'm looking into possibly getting, but I'd like to know if I can use it to record (my Xbox 360) on Ubuntu (Studio) 10.04 Lucid Lynx, and how hard it would be to set it up.
Blackmagic Intensity Pro
Hauppauge HD PVR
AVerTV HD DVR
Blitzbox HD
Also, if you know of any other decent HD capture devices, comment and let me know
The problem of slow usb transfer speeds has been half solved in Lucid. I'm getting 25 mbps plus speeds when it comes to transferring data to portable hard drive. But with my Kingston flash drive the speeds are still as low as 2 mbps. Is this because some flash drives are not meant to be compatible with Ubuntu?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIm not sure since there different ubuntu for AMD and intel and i have seen x86 in some applications websites to download. Does that mean it wont work in AMD chip? Do all ubuntu applications work? Does AMD always have to be 64-bit what if i just want 32-bit for more culpability for applications? Is it hard to change from 64 to 32 or from 32 to 64 in AMD? Since im planning on buying a AMD computer. Its a noob question but i cant find the answer on Google. Going to be using AMD Dual Core Athlon™ Neo X2 6850e (1MB L2, 1.8GHz)

I am not having a big problem at all but my built in video system is clearly behaving like it does not have the right driver.

It is going to be set up next monday and I opted to not purchase their DSL modem (I wouldn't be there when it would be delivered and it would have been stolen most likely) So, anyone know of a DSL modem compatible with AT&T DSL that will work that I can pick up at a chain store? View 1 Replies View RelatedHaving moved my computers into a "new" office in my house, I have no network cables. Had fun times trying to run a network cable, ultimately stopped due to unknown block in the vertical wall and fear of drilling through something important. I have strong WIFI signal to this room.
I tried plugging in my Netgear WPN111, didn't work. Works on my Win7 box, and I need one on that anyway, so I'd prefer to get another wifi card, be it a PCI, PCIE, or USB dongle. I would prefer the USB dongle since I could then use it elsewhere if need be. I've installed Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit. The cpu is an Intel quad-core 920, with 8GB ram.
I just recently had to have Ubuntu installed on my computer, and of course, the Web Browser they put on here is Firefox, which I love, however...... Before I had Ubuntu, I had Windows, but due to a problem with a nasty virus, and then not having the original product code for Windows, I couldn't get Windows back on my computer so they put lovely Ubuntu on it. Now, I am a Manager at a hotel, and I have to be able to view my hotel security cameras from home when I am not at work. It is an IP web address and it is not compatible with Firefox. My question is this. Is there any plugin out there that would make webpages that are non compatible with Firefox able to be viewed?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI currently use Ubuntu 9.04. I have thought of upgrading to 10.04 for a long time, but I am unable to do so as I do not know if my mobile broadband device, Huawei EC1260, works out of the box in 10.04. In the Ubuntu wiki, I found that it was not compatible with 9.10 and a bug report had been already filed. A line is mentioned in the page, which tells us:
Declined for Lucid by Jeremy Foshee
So, does this mean that the problem is fixed in 10.04? Or, if it is incompatible, then, how will I configure it so that it can work? Now, many people may be considering that I might just download the CD image and try it out. Although my company has given me the device with 5 GB of free usage, but I have to show reasons for any file downloaded more than 15 MB.
My computer is a Dell Dimension 2350 (all factory stuff inside besides RAM cards) with a Intel 845G (I'm almost positive but id have to check windows to see, Factory made also). how do i get my video drivers compatible wiith ubuntu? View 4 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to build a MacOS X compatible pc using of-the-shelf compoments?
For example, what motherboards are considered compatible (i presume they must have EFI, lol), what sound cards, wifi cards, video cards etc.
Also, why not a start an OS X compatibility topic/list?
It would be very nice, as many people would be able to simply print the list and go shopping (no need to search a billion other sites with ambiguous info) and it would allow many people to get a mac for the price of a pc
PS: Don't start recommending the OSx86 operating system. It's a heavily kluged up OS I do not want. I want the real OS X.
just bought a HTC legend. and my last phone was the iPhone 3g, used to iTunes just downloading the podcasts then syncing them.
Is there a Ubuntu program that can not only download podcasts but sync with an android phone? then arrange the playlist from ubunutu side.
Not looking forward to manually transferring them over and arranging them on the mounted drive the phone creates.
Also not an option to download podcasts straight to the phone what with the plan I'm on
