Ubuntu Networking :: Doesn't Seem To Detect Wireless Connections?
Apr 22, 2011i'm using a dell n5010 recently i installed ubuntu9.10 in my laptop and it doesn't seem to detect wireless connections, so, i googled it and downloaded a driver from broadcom and tried to install it as per the authors instructions and nothing seems to work well, the broadcom drivers are not detected in the additional drivers and when i try to install linux-wlan-ng tarballs it doesn't seem to work even, though i have gcc(i think thats it), so, i installed my windows driver through nsdgtk but it says that it is "unable to see if hardware is present" but, when i click ok on the error the wireless network applet says the hardware is present and when i click the network configuration tool it gives the error message "could not find a network configuration tool" and after configuring my network with network tools in administration it says "no wireless extensions" when i type 'iwconfig' and there is no ip address when i type "ipconfig".

Feb 26, 2011I have a fully operational PXE boot server, the client boots up and begins the setup process however, fails to detect the hard disk, I have tried with ubuntu 8.10, 9.10 and 10.10 and none of them will see my hard disk, I boot to the cd and it sees the hard disks with no problem, so apparently the pxe boot server isnt serving up the neccesary drivers or something to detect my hard disks properly. They are just IDE drives and like I said, regular cd install detects my drives just fine.So if anyone here has any information that may help shed some light on this issue I would be so grateful

But apparently debian package do not offer this useful tool, well, certainly for sidux exclusively.

May 29, 2009My current network setup at home is all wired, and that's worked for me so far. Now I want to set up a wireless connection on my Linux box that I can connect to with both my laptop and my Nintendo DS. I'd like to be able to host a wireless network from the Linux box, connect to it with some other wireless device, and have the wireless device communicate with the router, the internet, and other computers on the wired network. I have the wired network set up (statically configured) as eth0. Other network adapters present on the system are eth1 (not in use) and wlan0, wlan1, and wlan2 (identical cards, remnants from the last time I experimented with wireless).
So I guess my question comes in two parts:
1) How do I set up wlan0 such that it can host? Is Ad-hoc mode okay for this, or do I need to set it up in Master mode?
2) How do I forward connections between the wireless net and the router?
Note that I will be using WEP, as it is all that the NDS supports. I'd like to set up MAC filtering as well, but not until after I get something that works.
Fedora :: Cannot Detect Any Wireless Networks
Mar 9, 2010I installed fedora 12 for the first time last night, and I have been having a lot of trouble with my wireless. It is a Dell 1395 WLAN mini. I followed the instructions from [UR], but I still can't see any networks. Moreover, when I boot into windows I can no longer detect any wireless networks.

Jun 29, 2009I installed Nvidia drivers according to the post in HowTos section. It downloaded a different version of the existing kernel, i guess. And the kernel using which I downloaded, when shows up GUI, looks like a Safe Mode of Windows. So I boot the kernel that it downloaded. And there the problem is that in Network Manager applet, it doesn't show me the wireless connections. It doesn't even show the Enable Wireless checkbox upon right clicking it. How to get it back?

Apr 17, 2010I recently installed Fedora on an old computer of mine that I pulled out of storage, and I can not get it to detect my wireless network. Previously it was running Windows XP and I was able to get it to connect, but now that I'm on Fedora it doesn't even detect my network. I tried lspci and lsusb but I didn't find anything under network, only Ethernet showing my linksys. I know I must have a wireless chipset, but nothing will show.
I also attempted to yum install ndiswrapper because another thread with a similar problem suggested this, and when it prompted me for my password it wouldn't let me type. How would I go about fixing this?

Nov 11, 2010I recently purchased an MSI A5000 notebook, but regrettably it happens to use an obscure branded wireless card that's given me quite a bit of frustration to get working. I do have a bit of history behind this card that might help to solve this problem. First of all the card is a Ralink rt3090STA, and the manufacturer does provide a linux driver for this card (available here)
I was using Ubuntu 10.04 32 bit until last week, when I decided that I would like to try using a 64 bit system. I would prefer to use fedora instead of Ubuntu for the time being. Ubuntu had some major problems recognizing the card for some time before I was able to get it to work. The process I used to resolve the issue on my Ubuntu system has not proven successful on Fedora 13 x64, and I would like any help I can get to try to resolve this problem.

Mar 13, 2011My laptop is supposed to have a 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless network card, but I can't find it. I've run lspci -nn without seeing anything containing. 802.11 in the output. Moreover, when I look into hardinfo->network->interfaces I only find the wired connection. Could anyone please tell me if these programs find all devices or if there could still be a wireless card here?

Jun 20, 2009I'm trying to get wireless working in F10. Using pci wireless card with Atheros chipset. To be sure, I tested this hardware with a PCLinuxOS Live CD. Connects to AP perfectly.
Hardware drivers seem all OK in F10, and ifconfig shows wlan0 as expected. When I use the Wireless-Assistant 0.5.7 there's no connection.
Actually, the AP logs show numerous connections and disconnections.
Preferring CLI, I'm using a drop-dead simple wpa_supplicant.conf as follows :

My networkmanager understands that the card is installed. But it can not find any network. Also iwlist scan gives me no result. I did not have this problem on earlier fedora releases. Recently I upgraded to F12 from F11. I should mention that I have another USB DLink wireless card and when I plug it, everything works fine with that card. I also tested wl_apsta driver using fw-cutter. I did not work neither.

May 31, 2011I remember that I did configure my desktop PC for wired and wireless connections since openSUSE 11.2, 11.3 and 11.4. Currently I have openSUSE11.4 x86_64 KDE. Today I happen to notice that the icon for NetworkManager in the taskbar has been replaced with a red X. I discovered that Network Manager only shows VPN tab, whereas Wired and Wireless tabs are greyed out. The strange thing is I still have Internet connection with the CAT5 cable being plugged in. I can still configure wired and wireless connections via YAST but I cannot fix Network Manager settings.

Jul 14, 2010I just got myself a Dell Inspiron 1440. And decided to install my favorite distro Debian. I got the installation to go with no issue and all seems to be working fine. However the wireless isn't working. NetworkManager doesnt even detect a wireless card. I followed the instructions here and installed the b43-fwcutter and then issued the modprobe b43 and modprobe b43legacy commands. Then I issued the iwconfig command and this was the output.

May 2, 2010I have a new F12 install, and my syslog is filling up with messages about USB. I have 2 USB devices plugged in directly to the mobo (bluetooth keyboard receiver, touchscreen), and it keeps redetecting them and then disabling the port for some reason.
