And after that my X is not working. And when i try sudo modprobe nvidia I get this:

I haven't any idea what drivers I should get from the repositories! I just want to play games. My chipset is NVidia GeoForse 6150SSE. I also don't know if the chipset handles sound and what I need for gaming.

If I set System > Preferences > Sound > Hardware and set the profile to Analog Stereo Duplex, I get sound from the speaker port just fine.However if I set the profile to Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output I get nothing on my TV. Ok, so let me first start off by saying I'm a linux noob. I feel no shame. I've been working on trying to solve my issue for a few days now and after much research I am still no better off. But I am able to at least narrow down my problem. The long and short of it is that my HDMI audio device is not showing up in Ubuntu 10.4 x64 edition. Let me give a few specs.
Motherboard: ASROCK 785GMH/128
Onboard video: ATI Radeon HD 4200
Onboard audio: VIA VT1708S
OS: Ubuntu 10.4 x64
Alsa drivers: alsa-driver-1.0.23
ATI Drivers: ATI Catalyst 10.6
Running the latest version of ALSA and ATI's proprietary linux drivers. I can see all outputs (including the s/pdif) except the HDMI. From my reading there should be a device listed on a 2nd card called ATI HDA HDMI aplay -l returns the following result:

I just purchased a new PC that has this as part of its description:AMD A4-5000 APU with Radeon(TM) HD Graphics..I have monitors connected to both its analog and digital outputs. 1. with Pulse I can play a guitar through inputs 1&2 and hear the output, but can not play any pgms like Banshee at all.

I am a recruit for Linux and install FC12 on my PC. The motherboard is ASUS M3N78-CM. The nvidia GeForce 8200 chipset on the motherboard is directlt used for vedio. The driver : NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-190.42-pkg2.run is downloaded from Nvidia website, but it can't drive the chipset successfully. So i can not start X-window. If anyone has a solution to this problem?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed ubuntu 9.10 dual boot. All went well until I upgraded the video drivers for the nvidia chipset on my motherboard. If I leave Gnome to start with the single user i created i get a black screen and 'mode not supported ' message on the monitor. BUT if i drop to root and 'startx' all is well and i can adjust the various screen resolutions and they all work well.
At this point i created another user name to check, and that works fine also, but if i drop back to the original user i get no screen unless i select 800x600, although all the other resolutions work fine with root and the other user name. Im stumped as I presume there's only one xorg.conf file for all users.
Just wondering if anyone could tell me how the models in alsa-base.conf ( see model list here )are configured. My issue is: My volume is extremely low. I have tried telling alsa to load profile for 3stack and 6stack configurations. However, most of the models listed for acer seem to be laptops. In my case I am running a ACER aspire ASE380 I have tried a few of the acer model listings with moderate success. My system is running ALC888 ( is it possible that its being identified incorrectly by the system? ) with 6 analog stack + 1 optic + 1 coax + 1 front mic + 1 front head-phone. I am wondering how the models differ from each other in the conf files. Can any one tell me where to look?
View 7 Replies View RelatedWine in F12 (we no longer have the i386 build, only the x86_64 build available in x86_64 systems as in F11) winecfg crashes when trying to configure any audio controller and one is installed? I remember seeing this very same behaviour happen in Fedora 11 when using the x86_64 build, but the i386 did not have this problem. As soon as you click the Audio tab and click OK to the dialog warning that there is no "Audio driver slected", Wine enters into an infinte loop trying to start the debugger.
When I have time, I'll report this to the Bugzilla, as I do not believe the x86_64 package of Wine to be a true x86_64 binary (as older releases), but the 32-bit Wine only wrapped in a Fedora x86_64 package (then again, I maight be wrong, and indeed this package is 64-bit capable, which would mean it could run 64-bit native Windows executables), at any rate, in its current state, not only does winecfg crashes when trying to poll (I think) the sound devices, but if one of the controllers is installed, also trying to run an application that has sound (a game or multimedia program) it will cause the same effect (or simply not have sound at all).

I have behringer UCA202 usb card, after plug to usb, it just works , I have only small problem with alsamixer, which still shows by default my integrated HDA Intel, I could switch it by F6 or by alsamixer -c 1no problem, but I expect that default card is now plugged "USB audio", so why alsamixer recognize default audio device as HDA intel and not a USB Audio ?anyone who has two or more sound cards with the same issue ?

I can't really do anything with the speaker as it is hidden in the case.
For those that use Virtualbox on their slackware host and have a windows (xp) guest running. I have tried various settings for sound (Alsa, PulseAudio), the AC97 drivers are installed in the Windows xp guest os, but there is no sound and there is an unknown audio device (in the windows device manager). If I remove the AC97 drivers and use the soundblaster16 drivers in the Vbox settings there is no unknown sound device, but there's still no sound. why I can't get sound working?

Currently I have 5 HID's I would like to use on the system at any given time. However, I have the problem of them using different device paths depending on what order I plug them in... Which wreaks havoc on qjoypad and also my music software which looks for a specific device number, which may or may not be the same as it was last time.
For example, I have 2 rock band drum controllers which I use to send MIDI signals. I need them always assigned to the same device path, so that I don't have to change the settings in my music software every time I run it, to make sure it's looking at the right controller
Or if I am going to play games with a gamepad, but I also have the drums hooked up, the gamepad may be assigned to /dev/input/js2, so I create my qjoypad profile.... Let's say the next day I reboot with the drums not plugged in, the gamepad is now /dev/input/js0, and the qjoypad profile won't work because it is looking for that gamepad at /dev/input/js2... So I would either have to create a new profile, or hook the drums back up in the same order ... Or something
It's just a mess...
Is there any way to tell Ubuntu to say "/dev/input/js0 is always Playstation gamepad", "/dev/input/js1 is always drum pad 1", etc.?
Or some way to do away with /dev/input scheme altogether and somehow link directly to the name of the device?
I'm getting random system hangs and display issues when using my computer with my nVidia graphics card. On a lark, i checked /proc/interrupts and noticed that the nvidia device is sharing an interrupt with one of my USB boards, as well as my integrated sound card. i managed to move my sound card by editing my alsa-base and adding:
Code: options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=1 This helps mostly, but i'm still getting intermittant issues. is there any way to shift the interrupt of my gfx card (or usb controller) to avoid this potential conflict? i know the devices should be able to co-exist, but i've seen several people having issues when an nVidia card shares interrupts.

For years I have used a Slax live CD on a laptop to clone internal HDDs to USB HDDs. I recently purchased a Sony VPCF136FM laptop with Intel Core i7 CPU. It apparently has USB 3.0 ports. The problem is the USB ports are dead with Slax. There is a USB devise driver available for Windows 7 from Sony but nothing for Linux operating systems. Can this driver be ported to Linux? It is an exacutable (XXX.exe). The chip for the USB Host is from Renesas Electronics (no help there, either). Where can I find a device driver to use with Slax and how would I install it?

I'm still working on ubuntu 9.10 with an acer aspire 1810tz. To use my microphone I found out that I have to change my microphone settings because it's mono and the default setting is thinking it's stereo: With the Volume Controller I setup one chancel to 5 and the other to 90 and the mic is working fine. Starting Skype and using it I see that the setting is reducing the volume for the mic below 20, so nobody can hear me. I tried closing first Volume Controller and then starting Skype, no matter the volume of the mic is reduced. How do I stop this behavior?
