View 8 RepliesJust wondering if anyone could tell me how the models in alsa-base.conf ( see model list here )are configured. My issue is: My volume is extremely low. I have tried telling alsa to load profile for 3stack and 6stack configurations. However, most of the models listed for acer seem to be laptops. In my case I am running a ACER aspire ASE380 I have tried a few of the acer model listings with moderate success. My system is running ALC888 ( is it possible that its being identified incorrectly by the system? ) with 6 analog stack + 1 optic + 1 coax + 1 front mic + 1 front head-phone. I am wondering how the models differ from each other in the conf files. Can any one tell me where to look?

Looks like Pulse is the cause of another problem with the ICE1721 chipset (when will this madness end!!). Anyways I have a pulseverbrose.log file that I'll pastebin here: Ubuntu Pastebin Also results of /usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh are here: Ubuntu Pastebin The symptoms are:
1. with Pulse I can play a guitar through inputs 1&2 and hear the output, but can not play any pgms like Banshee at all.
2. After "killall pulseaudio" I can then play Banshee but no external inputs, like a guitar.
The sys:
1. OpenSuse 11.4
2. 2.6.37.6-0.5-default Kernel
3. pulse-0.9.22
4. cat /proc/asound/version=Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.23
5. Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.23=alsa-1.0.24.1-4.7.1.i586, alsa-utils-1.0.24.2-3.1.i586, alsa-firmware-1.0.24.1-3.1.noarch
I'll update this post with more info as I get into it further..
I recently installed ubuntu 9.10, today actually, and I can't seem to make the audio work. I read a lot of threads, but no luck with this..
View 7 Replies View RelatedI finally decided to transition to a 64-bit install (AMD64). (same machine, just reinstalling as a 64-bit kernel starting w/ a Debian squeeze netinstall image) My audio chipset is nvidia MCP61, and it was working perfectly under a 32-bit kernel (I did the transition because a poorly-written system backup script (my fault) hosed /usr, /bin, and /sbin) When everything was up and running:
*: KDE4 only recognized the output device as ALC1200 Analog
*: kmix only had a single channel(master)
*: alsamixergui did recognize all the channels
*: some games (sauerbraten, for example) had no sound in KDE4.
*: some games (warzone2100, for example) did have sound in KDE4.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have the nvidia sound card built into my motherboard. Just a few hours ago it started to just stop making any noises what so ever. I rebooted but to no avail. I finally was able to find a fix by purging pulse AND alsa, then reinstalling them and rebooting. The problem is this will only allow my sound to work for about 10-15 mins. Kinda hard to watch "'Neath the Arizona Sky" if you gotta reboot every 15 minutes or so...
I have also purge and reinstalled ubuntu-desktop and that will work temporarily and extend me out another 10-15 mins from when it stopped, but then I still have to reboot.
I am using 10.10 Maverick 64 bit and have been using it for a while, this is the first time this or any other problem has occured.
I have been through the forums and checked every thread I could find with a Bingle search that was in any way related to random sound stoppage. I have tried most of them (did not try the ones that were specific to other cards as far as editing the .conf's for those cards)
My Compaq Presario F739WM laptop has a Connexant HD Audio/NVidia MCP51 (reported by lspci) sound card.Ubuntu has always supported the card with no problem except the random popping noise but then I found a work around for that. Now for some reason, when I first turn on my computer and at login screen I can hear Ubuntu noises, yet seems once I login, no more sound or sometimes the successfully logged in sound.
The only changes that I have since the sound worked, was I installed pulseaudio but that caused no problems with that. The other change was a few kernel upgrades and other packages through normal update manager.I have checked that snd_hda_intel driver was loaded in the kernel and in alsa, all seems well.Pulse detects audio output in it's meter.I also tested the sound card to make sure it wasn't bad, in Windows 7 (dual boot) and it wokrs perfectly.
I haven't any idea what drivers I should get from the repositories! I just want to play games. My chipset is NVidia GeoForse 6150SSE. I also don't know if the chipset handles sound and what I need for gaming.

Ok, so let me first start off by saying I'm a linux noob. I feel no shame. I've been working on trying to solve my issue for a few days now and after much research I am still no better off. But I am able to at least narrow down my problem. The long and short of it is that my HDMI audio device is not showing up in Ubuntu 10.4 x64 edition. Let me give a few specs.
Motherboard: ASROCK 785GMH/128
Onboard video: ATI Radeon HD 4200
Onboard audio: VIA VT1708S
OS: Ubuntu 10.4 x64
Alsa drivers: alsa-driver-1.0.23
ATI Drivers: ATI Catalyst 10.6
Running the latest version of ALSA and ATI's proprietary linux drivers. I can see all outputs (including the s/pdif) except the HDMI. From my reading there should be a device listed on a 2nd card called ATI HDA HDMI aplay -l returns the following result:

I've often installed Debian Netinstall and added the nVidia driver for my monitors. I just purchased a new PC that has this as part of its description:AMD A4-5000 APU with Radeon(TM) HD Graphics..I have monitors connected to both its analog and digital outputs. Larger distros have enabled a good video driver automatically, but I need to know how to do this for my Debian Netinstall partition. The video performance is horribly slow right now.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed ubuntu 9.10 dual boot. All went well until I upgraded the video drivers for the nvidia chipset on my motherboard. If I leave Gnome to start with the single user i created i get a black screen and 'mode not supported ' message on the monitor. BUT if i drop to root and 'startx' all is well and i can adjust the various screen resolutions and they all work well.
At this point i created another user name to check, and that works fine also, but if i drop back to the original user i get no screen unless i select 800x600, although all the other resolutions work fine with root and the other user name. Im stumped as I presume there's only one xorg.conf file for all users.

But even I downloaded and installed them, nothing changed.

Just got the latest kernel update 2.6.31.6-162 for fedora 12 64bit and it won't boot on my PC. I just get a black screen with some text that doesn't mean anything to me. Computer is a s775 E7200 with nvidia 730i/9300 integrated graphics. I am NOT using hardware graphics drivers at the moment, having decided to stick with Nouveau drivers for a time. What system log tools do I need to identify the problem?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been using an Asus motherboard with the Marvell 88E8001 Gigabit LAN chipset for a couple of years now. It works great with any 32 bit OS, but has always failed when a 64 bit OS is installed - even Win 7. I plan to switch up to 64 bit Slack, and I need to use an ancient 3COM PCI card to get 64 bit connectivity.
I recently tested many 64 bit Linux distros (Debian, Ubuntu, Mint, PCBSD, etc), and I found that none seem to work except Fedora 12 and OpenSUSE 13.1. They have somehow gotten the skge modules to work with this chipset. Even the "driver" that Marvell recommends to use with this chipset fails (they say to use the sk98lin module).
Any ideas how OpenSUSE can get this chipset working with 64 bit OSs? I've thought about copying the skge.h and skge.c files from OpenSUSE's kernel source and replacing the ones in the Slackware kernel source for recompiling, but I'm not sure if this would be a another waste of time.
I'm following this guide to get wireless working: http://wiki.debian.org/rt2870sta I'm on debian lenny x86 arch 2.6.30-bpo.2-686 I have debian-backports-keyring, linux-image-2.6.30-bpo.2-686, firmware-ralink, wireless-tools, wpasupplicant, (network-manager-gnome OR wicd) and their dependencies installed.
lsmod lists the module as loaded iwconfig lists the interface ifconfig up brings up the iface with nm-applet loaded, I CANNOT see any wireless networks, though I know there are several in range. with wicd, i specified ra0 (my wifi iface) as the wireless interface and I CANNOT see any wireless networks.
My graphics card (00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03))
used to work fine, but yesterday I opened glest and it crashed my computer within 5 seconds. No picture was ever displayed. I downloaded another 3D game called Nogravity (Glest being my only one, I wanted something else to test) and it crashed after a few minutes of play and I had to restart. After all the crashes kerneloops came up with a report.
Here is the most recent one:

I did recently notice that I have no direct 3D rendering, it comes up with something like: No (LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT SET)
I do not know whether I used to have it, but I do know that 3D apps used to run perfectly well. (In fact the stability of 3D apps was what converted me from Ubuntu where they crashed every 5 minutes)
I ran glxgears for 5 seconds and it gave me 420 FPS.
I have a ICM532 chipset based webcam (D-Link DSB-C320). I could not find a solution across the forums to get the camera working properly for me on Ubuntu 10.10. There is a thread [URL] concerning the same chipset on the forums, but it is quite old. I do not want to risk breaking my system while attempting the fix. It would be really helpful if you could help me on the same. Also, when I check the webcam through Cheese, I get images with alternating yellow-tinge and blue-tinge.

I'm a long time Windows user trying out some of the best Linux creative apps I can find. So, Ubuntu Studio was a no brainer. I checked the manufacturer's site for linux drivers and they are available, but I don't know how current. (Edimax site, not RaLink's site.) I opened the file and it looks like it needs to be compiled and installed to work. Something I know almost nothing about.
