General :: USB Host Controller Device Driver Needed For Slax Live CD
Jan 1, 2011
For years I have used a Slax live CD on a laptop to clone internal HDDs to USB HDDs. I recently purchased a Sony VPCF136FM laptop with Intel Core i7 CPU. It apparently has USB 3.0 ports. The problem is the USB ports are dead with Slax. There is a USB devise driver available for Windows 7 from Sony but nothing for Linux operating systems. Can this driver be ported to Linux? It is an exacutable (XXX.exe). The chip for the USB Host is from Renesas Electronics (no help there, either). Where can I find a device driver to use with Slax and how would I install it?
Am a quite naive user of linux. I would like to know whether there is a way in which I can remove/disable the USB Host controller driver from the kernel, without kernel compilation..Am using a custom system which has linux in it (Fedora) If not, how should i go about recompiling the kernel to have this module disabled.
i am writing block deriver for usb device in linux i want to read and write data to/from usb device i already registered usb device with my driver and opened the handle for the usb device now i need to send scsi command to usb device to make it work but i dont have knowledge about scsi commands and how and where to use them now i need to know which scsi command i need to pass to the usb device and how can i pass that command to usb device also i need some information like how to register host controller with my usb driver
if anyone knows about this or where can find the tutorials / documentation/ framework for the same.
Is it possible to install new slax module (from slax site) on ancient backtrack 2? Or it won't work because of versions? I would like to update tor by installing this module on bt2: http://www.slax.org/modules.php?action=detail&id=2277
I have 3 monitors and am trying to get the Matrox TripleHead2Go Digital signal splitter with my Linux workstation. When I connect them all I get are blinking green lights on the monitors which I think means no signal. Do I need to download a Linux driver? I've searched online but can't find anything. Maybe the problem is something else. Same happens when trying to connect to my PC.
I am running Ubuntu 10.10 on my old Acer Travelmate 661 LCi. Device manager tells me: info.linux.driver i915. Is there a better driver, and if yes, where can I get it and how can I install it.
I am attempting to load CentOS 5 on an Acer 6900 desktop and I'm not even getting out of the starting gate. I am familiar with using linux but not the install procedure which is why I am beginning to dive into this. However, when I bring the system up off the Linux boot disk and go to install it's not even giving me the option of the controller so I can begin installing the os from the dvd-rom. This is what acer lists as the controller for the 6900: ich8 serial ata storage controller 2820 linux driver. I cannot find this driver for linux anywhere.
Is there any point to running a personal firewall when using a linux live CD or DVD with a dialup internet connection? My chief concern is compromise of the underlying Windows installation. I do not need corporate-grade security.
I would like to install to hardrive but screen resolution is too big, the required resolution is 1024x768. when i try to install i cannot see the buttons needed to install. my video card is S3 unichrome with 3D effects. default resolution is 840X600 is there a solution to this problem. all input is welcome.
We have a device with both USB host and device ports.Runs on Ubuntu 9.04.The gadget driver (g_printer) is present on the device. From a host Linux PC(with Generic printer driver installed) we are able to write and read through /dev/usblp0.The data send by Linux Host PC is received by device. But the same device, when it is connected to a Windows PC (XP) with printer driver, the data send by the host is not received by the device. When we connect a USB Analyzer, data send by the Windows host PC is visible but there are no acknowledgments seen.
Trying to do a yum update to get everything to latest, towards the end it says this:
[Code]...
how to get around this? I tried yum clean all, then yum update, again but it did the same. I had other deps missing on other servers but yum clean all fixed them -- can't find anyone else who's had this specific issue either, nor an rpm called 'device-mapper-event' or the other things that are missing - am kinda stuck!
I am trying to install FC 10 on my built-in Adaptec raid controller and the Live CD does not see the controller. From my other ATA drive FC10 install I get this from lspci -v:
Code:
00:1f.2 RAID bus controller: Intel Corporation 6300ESB SATA RAID Controller (rev 02) (prog-if 8f) Subsystem: Super Micro Computer Inc Device 5180 Flags: bus master, 66MHz, medium devsel, latency 0, IRQ 18 I/O ports at e200 [size=8]
[code]...
sdb and sdc are the SATA raid disks... they have already been partitioned as a single raid 0 device... not sure why / how they stil show up as two disks.
New to Linux, after burned live cd,was left in the drive, then fund out the disk, from the drive next morning, and the computer(inspiron dell, windows vista)came with blue screen, after reboot the computer i have the black screen with this.ot boot device available after run knoppix live cd..."then i did F8 and when to windows system boot options, no one worked sofar, even r repair, then i did put the burned linux disk"knoppix live cd is mounted but was in germany, spanish and english are my options,do not what to do it next, how can i recover the windows system?i'm downloading another live cd in english, but no sure if the previous disk version, that i don't know wich it's? is going to be a problem with the new disk, the original intention with the disk, was to repair a dell xps 2010 with the windows32 system corrupted, some said that's possible with linux.
I need to either force a redetection of my hardware or get the system to use the specific piece of hardware it is no longer using. Details Fedora 12 NVidia chipset/audio controller Modprobe details of device "nVidia Corporation MCP79 High Definition Audio" Tried installing kudzu but it does not install....
So, I was playing with Fathom's new Slax Remix with Zen kernel 2.6.33 and decided to try a manual install to hdd and see if it would boot. [URL]. New slax remix is here: [URL]I surprised when after doing the install I ended up with a beautiful and fully functional KDE desktop all in 860MB of space! Although many things will break if upgrading, etc. I was impressed that with KDE running it was only using about 140MB ram! incl cache, etc. And, fluxbox is included too as well as pkgtool, and xwmconfig. The complete How-To I did is in the slax remix thread at above link, and also here [URL].
Hints: After installing to hdd, usb-hdd, etc. Grab slackpkg and the gnupg stuff and install any other pkgs. Be careful about upgrading... I added kdeadmin pkg from slax module and some other stuff so my install is at 944MB now and look at output of "free" in screenshot.
I decided to finally give it a try last night and made a Live USB for Slax. It booted up quickly, pretty much everything worked right away, and after getting the Wifi working I decided to call it a night.
My project for today was attempting to install Java, but I haven't had much success. There are modules on the Slax site for this, but a. they are unverified and b. I want to delve into linux further than just downloading everything off a website. I downloaded the latest Java package for linux, which was a self-extracting .bin. I followed steps 1 through 4 here, but step 5 didn't work. I got the error message
Quote:
Extracting... UnZipSFX 5.50 of 17 February 2002, by Info-ZIP (Zip-Bugs@lists.wku.edu). inflating: jre-6u20-linux-i586.rpm error: db4 error(2) from dbenv->open: No such file or directory error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - No such file or directory (2) error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm
I then tried using the rpm -UvH command on the rpm file, but got the same error. Knowing that Slax modules are .lzm files, I used rpm2tgz and tgz2lzm to convert it to a module, but it still doesn't work. I'm hoping that someone can point me in the right direction, other than "Download this unverified module from the Slax site."
In addition, a problem I haven't encountered yet but is foreseeable: In those instructions that I linked above for downloading and installing Java, the "Enable and Configure" section requires altering parts of the Firefox install directory. However, since this is Slax, Firefox is in a module. To do that part, do I have to use lzm2dir in order to get into Firefox's innerworkings, or what?
Currently I have 5 HID's I would like to use on the system at any given time. However, I have the problem of them using different device paths depending on what order I plug them in... Which wreaks havoc on qjoypad and also my music software which looks for a specific device number, which may or may not be the same as it was last time.
For example, I have 2 rock band drum controllers which I use to send MIDI signals. I need them always assigned to the same device path, so that I don't have to change the settings in my music software every time I run it, to make sure it's looking at the right controller
Or if I am going to play games with a gamepad, but I also have the drums hooked up, the gamepad may be assigned to /dev/input/js2, so I create my qjoypad profile.... Let's say the next day I reboot with the drums not plugged in, the gamepad is now /dev/input/js0, and the qjoypad profile won't work because it is looking for that gamepad at /dev/input/js2... So I would either have to create a new profile, or hook the drums back up in the same order ... Or something
It's just a mess...
Is there any way to tell Ubuntu to say "/dev/input/js0 is always Playstation gamepad", "/dev/input/js1 is always drum pad 1", etc.?
Or some way to do away with /dev/input scheme altogether and somehow link directly to the name of the device?
I have a windows 98 box.I have a slax ISO and a slax TAR. My slax TAR has all the modules I want.
My windows 98 hard drive has only 1 partition and is fully formatted.I have used windows 98 to download my TAR.I want to dual boot slax and windows 98.How do I go about this? So do I have to repartition?
I just got my new ubuntu 9.10 os desktop version installed into my lenovo laptop but then my WiFi is not working. Previously I had a broadcom driver which currently is not functioning with the ubuntu 9.10.
My 4 yr old Dell XPS 400 has a nVidia GeForce 7300 LE card which won't run Unity as is. How do I determine without actually attempting to install 11.04 if there is an updated driver available that will allow this machine to run Unity?
the 4 port ethernet US Robotics, NAM USR RTR model 8000 1.0, router and printer port works in windows is there any support in linux to make printer driver work ? It is configured in windows xp as local printer through usr server driver.
I have a VT6421 based raid controller. lspci shows this: 00:0a.0 RAID bus controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6421 IDE RAID Controller (rev 50) The drivers that come with it appear to have been compiled against an old kernel (I'm guessing). When I try to load them I get invalid module format. dmesg shows this: viamraid: version magic '2.6.11-1.1369_FC4 686 REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-4.0' should be '2.6.27.7-smp SMP mod_unload Does anyone know of a way to get this to work? I found the source for this, but it appears to only support Fedora, Mandrak, and RedHat. I can't get it to compile or make a driver disk.
I really wanna use the OS. I wiped my laptop and installed it but I can't change my screen resolution (it's stuck at 1024 X 768 and my refresh rate is at 0 HZ) I tried installing a driver that was for both the i9xx and i8xx chipset family but it doesn't look like it helped anything. I want to be able to play World of Warcraft Wrath of The Lich King but when I try it the way the computer is now the the frame rate is really really slow. I also need to fix my audio because there's crackling that comes from the speakers often. I attached a screen shot of what I get when I enter the command: sudo lshw -c video Changing the resolution isn't the problem so much as the fact that I can't change the refresh rate from "0 HZ" to anything higher so that my game will play smoothly. I would also like to put compiz fushion on my laptop as well but I don't believe it will work unless I resolve this problem.
