Ubuntu Networking :: Intel 5100 WiFi Card - Dell Latitude E6400 - Suddenly WiFi LED On The Computer Stops Blinking
May 4, 2011I am running (K)Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 64bit on a Dell Latitude E6400, WiFi Card Intel 5100. Never had any problems with networking. Up to about 2 weeks ago. I do realize there have been quite a few posts with this network adaptor, but non really described the problem I have here.
What happens is that suddenly the WiFi LED on the computer stops blinking, the WiFi connection gets disrupted, and the device is not recognized anymore when checking ifconfig. Only cold restarting the machine helps then... it will work for a while (between 1 and 20 minutes) and then crash again.
On Windows 7 the card works perfectly fine. With Ubuntu 11.04 in Live CD mode I have the same effects (connection crashes after a while). Also tried booting an older kernel, no success.

Fedora Networking :: Replacement Wifi Card - Dell Mini 10v?
Jan 6, 2011I own a Dell Mini 10v netbook, I love the little thing, except I hate the Broadcom wireless card, I would much rather have a card that can use open source drivers. I have been searching on Google, looking on forums and looking on the hardware sites, but I cannot find a replacement card.
The problem is the tiny Dell has a tiny place to put the card and according to Dell and Broadcom, it is a "halfcard", which I have no idea what that is.

Mar 15, 2010I recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 a a Dell D610 that is running a broadcom BMC943 internal wifi adapter. I've tried installing the wifi drivers off of Dell's website using the ndisgtk gui setup. It appears that whenever I setup the driver the OS can't apply it. It states that the wifi adapter is not on or installed. Here is what I get when I run iwconfig and lspci -n.
iwconfig:
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.

I've also edited the blacklist.conf file as well with no luck. I've spent 2 days trying to figure this out with no luck at all.

The funny thing is that it works fine in a Fedora installation, which has an older kernel and older drivers, on the same laptop. The fact that the indicator light doesn't come in when the physical switch is turned on suggests it's something to do with that switch.

Jan 19, 2011I have a clevo M760T laptop. It used to run ubuntu 10.10, recently i reformatted it to fedora 14 and now the wifi card does not work. Heres the weird thing, the wifi card has a light on the laptop's front panel that says if its "enabled" (can be seen by the O/S, in ubuntu i would have no wlan0 interface until i enabled it this way, and it wouldnt show on lspci as far as i remember).The wifi is enabled using the Fn-F11 combo. I know the F11 key works as i can fullscreen firefox with it, and I know the Fn keys as i can use the Fn-F5/6 combo to alter volume etc. No matter what i try i cant seen to be able to get that light on, or the card to appear in fedora.This may be unreleated to fedora, maybe the card has broken, but it seems odd that that'd happen right when i installed fedora. Annoyingly, I dont know what make / model wifi card it was so i dont know if its related to kernel modules or similar (and nothing showing for it in lspci). Just that it worked (including actually using it to go on the internet) in ubuntu 10.10, and does not now in fedora 14.

Feb 20, 2011I'm a Linux newbie. Used to use Ubuntu, but I switched to Slackware because I want to learn how Linux works better.
On my Samsung qx410 laptop, I can't connect to the internet. I went to the System Settings -> Network Settings and all the tabs there, but it wouldn't detect any connection, wireless nor wired.
I noticed that the kernel of Slackware 13.1 is out of date, so I tried compiling a newer one, but I couldn't get that to work.
I tried downloading this file: iwlwifi-6050-ucode-41.28.5.1.tgz but even after reading the readme, I had no clue how to go about installing it or even whether it was the right thing to install in the first place.
How can I get my internet working?

May 1, 2010I installed 10.04 on my Dell 1555 laptop using Wubi on windows 7. Initially I was able to enable wifi using the multimedia buttons on the keyboard. But not since last few reboots I have not been able to enable wifi. All the other multimedia buttons are working fine. After installing ubuntu I have installed Adobe flash 64 bit and Google Chrome.

Ubuntu Networking :: Connect To Wifi On 10.04 LTS Installed On Dell?
Jun 10, 2010I just installed 10.04 LTS on my husband's Dell laptop but don't know how to get my wifi to work. I did some searching here in the forums and found a bunch of posts, but all are from 2008 or earlier meaning that they are probably not for my version of Ubuntu - feel free to tell me that the steps are the same.
Anyway, I did a 'lspci' in Terminal and the important lines that appeared are:

So my system does recognized the wireless card, I just don't know how to get Ubuntu to find available networks. I tried adding in our network as a 'hidden' network - which it isn't and that didn't work, so I'm up for any suggestions in how to get the computer to connect to the wifi network?
