I am new to Linux. About 72 hours in, and I must say. I am quite impressed. Except for a small issue. I cannot seem to figure out how to get my wireless card working. I have used the bcm43xx technique with no avail. And am working on ndswrapper. The good news is I think I have the .sys file that works. But I don't have the .inf. However any way I could make this work would be great. Below I have posted my lspci stats.

I have a Dell inspiron 1420 and its set up as a dual boot. Windows/Fedora.I cant get the wireless card to work. I review some previous posts but still cant get it working.
I did a /sbin/lspci

I have loaded the latest version of opensuse and I have everything working but I cannot connect to my wireless WPA2 network. I have downloaded the bcm43xx firmware using the method /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware I then restarted the network. The computer will now read the network card and will find networks but I cannot get it to connect at all. At first it would connect using ifup in yast but would disconnect after a few seconds. It would never connect through NM. I have a usb network card that works just fine. I am lost as to how to fix this problem.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI had just installed Ubuntu in my brother's laptop and the drivers for the laptop`s wireless card got deleted, or that's what is leading me to believe. Prior to the installation, the laptop was picking up wireless signals just fine. I tried finding the drivers on the INTERNET but there are too many and I don't want to get the wrong one. Even so, I don't know how to install it through Ubuntu or anything. I tried the "disswrapping" app. but it was looking for some sort of ".if" file type. I also tried using the Terminal, but I'm not an expert on this kind of stuff. I got Ubuntu 2 days ago on my own laptop.

Dell Inspiron 640m laptop, running 10.04. It previously connected via wifi & now fails to connect, although the wireless indicator shows a connection. Connection via ethernet works. I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 with a Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN Mini-Card and a Marvell Yukon 88e8040 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller, and I cannot for the life of me get the internet to connect. I've tried both wired and wireless connection. I have a PPoE connection through a Verizon FIOS Actiontek router I believe, though the PPoE part may be wrong, I had one five years ago when I first got their internet so they may have changed it. Point is that the ethernet and internet won't work, and without a working ethernet I can't fetch the right drivers for anything.
I had also tried plain ubuntu 10.04 and couldn't get them to work then either. It said 'disconnected' at first, and then said 'device not ready' There is no hardware switch but there is a key toggle. It doesn't seem to matter what state the wireless was in before booting into Ubuntu Studio, so I'm lost as to where to even start. Even though the network manager isn't there like in regular ubuntu, I assume there will be a simple way to connect to the internet once the drivers are found, right?
I've seen issues and read about fixing them, but usually it uses an ethernet connection to fix the wifi connection and, being new to linux (<50 hours worth of experience lifetime), all I managed to do trying to fix it myself was screw up the installation to the point where the laptop couldn't access the home folder and I had to reinstall. Other than that, I am usually very good at following instructions, as long as they apply to my laptop's issue I guess
The only other issue is minor, I can't seem to control the USB mouse I have, but the trackpad works fine so it's no big deal, probably a matter of downloading the mouse driver once the internet works.
Currently I do have internet access via the same laptop while booting Windows 7 (I installed Ubuntu Studio 10.04 on a 10GB Partition with the idea of using an external HD for most data storage).
Oh and it is a 64-bit machine, the Studio version I installed is 32-bit.
I am using a dell laptop which has Dell 1397 802.11B/G Wireless Mini Card. I not able to connect to internet and was not able to detect what actual problem is weather card is not supported (i.e. drivers are not available) .

Just installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.
I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.
Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.
Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.
I have a DEll Mini 9 - it has worked fine even though it has a limited memory. But Husband only uses to have a surf. It now wont connect to net. The Broadcom4312 Wireless Card is not working on Obunto. It has a Dell 802.11b/g Wireless LAN Mini card installed and Obunto Edition Version 8.04 Have phoned Dell and after several calls on Hold for over 15 mins each time and getting nowhere fast i am coming to you guys/girls. All seems to be working fine apart from the built in wireless card, the proprietary driver (found in hardware drivers) installs and activates successfully and works perfectly. Until I shut down or restart the system. On the next boot the wireless card is 'disabled' and no longer works.
The card I have is a Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g
I am going to try a proper install on a second partition rather than using wubi later on but wondered if this was a commonly occuring problem?
The wireless card works as soon as the driver installs, however I am shown a "restart to activate driver" message and after restarting it's dead.
ok basically i have a new dell inspiron n5010 with a broadcom 4313 wifi card. it doesnt work with ubuntu studio 10.10. I have the drivers all installed and it works on ethernet with the broadcom STA proprietry driver. if i disable this driver the eth doesnt work. but the driver shows its working (screenshot-1).
There is no pop up or anything in the task bar for detected wifi. i open the network settings and it shows up with a wifi option but i have to go into properties and manually type in what i have "the_den_meribel". which didn't work. (screenshot-2).
i have tried the other driver broadcom-sta-common and that doesnt make it work either. screenshot-3. i did try to install the "lp-pphhy" or whatever it is (seacrh for firmware-b43 in synaptic).

I just installed the 64-bit Kubuntu 11.04 and i've been having some issues getting the wifi to work. At first I went to additional drivers and activated the STA driver and restarted. After restarting when I went into the network manager and any option for wireless was disabled.

I just installed 9.10 and I can't detect any wireless networks. Is the card compatible with 9.10? Do I need to install any drivers? If the card isn't compatible with 9.10 is it compatible with later versions of Ubuntu? Marking this as somewhat urgent as I need to get internet access for some coursework soon, and also because my parents will kill me if they find out I've done anything unusual with the laptop because it's new and they think anything non -MS is a virus.

No available networks are displayed (and I know my router is on) and the Network Manager icon displays no bars. I suspect that the Dell Wireless card (having a Broadcom BCM-4312 chipset) needs a driver. I have tried to intstall both of the restricted drivers (BCM STA and 43xx drivers), but with no success. I just completed installing openSuse 11.1 I followed the detailed steps given in Getting Your Wireless to Work When I try to scan for available APs in the vicinity, I get the following error.

Can someone guide me in configuring my wireless connection. Also, since I do not happen to have a wired connection, I am alternating between openSuse and windows everytime i need internet.
Since the install and original tweaking of F15 the os and pc have been operating flawlessly now for a couple months. Today I slid the Sandisk memory card from my camera in but there is no detection of the stick and no paths in the media link directory. I searched the forum but did not find any post specific to this issue.
