I am trying to make a wifey friendly way to click on something in the desktop and have it start 2 programs. One program is Skype, the other is gedit which opens a file with notes we have made about using Skype

i want to install skype and have to do it maually, but when i type gedit /etc/yum.repos.d/skype.repo in terminal i get this error:

I use Fedora 14 and with Fedora 13 i didn have this problem. I am using Fedora for about six months.
I'm finding skype a bit to expensive and i sense that there are other services that are cheaper for computer to phone calls.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm on Ubuntu Karmic, and running Skype 2.0.0.72 -- since I couldn't get the latest version to work with my USB microphone. If I have Skype running, no other programs will produce sound (i.e. Amarok, VLC, flash in the browser, etc.). If any of those programs are active when I start Skype, Skype will fail to produce sound & won't work properly. Is there a way I can allow side-by-side usage of Skype and my other audio-producing programs, since all my other programs seem to get along just fine when it comes to sharing audio?
Audio Devices in Skype in case it will help:
Sound In: USB Device 0x471:0x311 (hw:U0x4710x311,0)
Sound Out: C-Media CMI8770 (plughw:CMI8770,0)
Ringing: C-Media CMI8770 (plughw:CMI8770,0)
Again, both my current Skype configuration & sound in general programs works on my system -- they're just not playing well with each other.
I would really like to stop Konqueror opening up links from Skype and other programs. It's becoming annoying because I have Chrome set to be the default browser, but for some reason when I click on a link it opens in Konqueror.

When scrolling down in nano with keyboard (holding "down" key), nano scrolls several lines at once each time. Is there any possibility to configure it so it will scroll one line each time like gedit does when scrolling in gedit?

View 2 Replies View RelatedToday in the morning I did update my system and my skype does not start anymore. Thiugh I am not sure if this is related to my new update(May 26), because it was in the morning and I didn't see if my skype was on/off. But definitely it doesn't work now. The first thing I tried was to uninstall and then reinstalling skype. It opens but when it tries to load the user(mine is set to automatically load user when skype starts) it just shuts down. I tried logging out. rebooting and shutting down my laptop. nothing works. And it used to work before without any problems.
I am running fresh install of Ubuntu 11.04, and skype beta 2.2

Everything is working fine however I have just installed the Skype beta deb package for Ubuntu 8.10+ 64b and it won't let me sign on. The installation as far as I know went fine however when I go to enter my UN and PW the "Sign In" button will not light up.

This can be caused by a problem in the programm or a defiency in Wine You may want to check...for tips.
Well I cant find anything with the same or similar problem and I also can not uninstall skype using the wine uninstaller. It just doenst do it.

I tried to install Skype, using the Debian download from Skype, but it didn't want to play. I downloaded the Ubuntu 64-bit deb and installed it with Gdebi. I started the application from the terminal and accepted the 'User Agreement'. Skype then tried to log me on, and I got the following error and the app closed:

This worked, but now I want to remove some start up programs using the command line. Can someone point me in the right direction to what I need to do for this?
I'm assuming that default start up programs are not links in the ~/.kde/Autostart folder because when I run:

I only find the files that I have set to start up.
Why wouldnt someone just add programs to ubuntus startup instead of using a script?Im configuring deluge and to have the web ui and daemon run at boot I added them to startup and they are working fine.

I have set Xubuntu (10.04) to auto login
Both Darkice and sc_serv are command line apps and I would like them to each run in their own terminal window so I can monitor any status messages they produce. For instance sc_serv displays connections disconnections with time connected, and current number of listeners, and I want to see that.
One important note: sc_serv must be up and running before Darkice can be started.
i just installed skype after downloading it from the officail site fedora package installation went smooth with no errors but after finnished i click to start skype nothing happens

With very little tweaking, I got everything to run right including wireless, but now I notice that I can't run any new (post-install) programs that I install through Ubuntu Software Center. In fact, I haven't tried installing any other way, but all software that was part of the default installation works fine, but these programs won't run:VLC Media PlayerSkypeStarsWhen I click on the programs to run them, the other apps slow or freeze for 30-45 seconds as if the computer is contemplating starting them, and then nothing. No errors, no shell or blank window - nothing. They just don't run.I only created one user account at O/S install and as far as I can tell is the SU, so I can't see it being a permissions issue.

My computer is a relatively fast one. It has 4 gb of ram and an intel core duo processor. I didn't install that many programs. Does anyone know what might be the source of the problem and how to fix it?
