View 13 Replies View RelatedI have been given an Acer 1 ZG5, All I know about it is that It's running Linux with Gnome on top. The Issue I have is that it will not start the Browser (Firefox). If I click the Browser icon on the screenm the cursor shows the spinning ball, then nothing. I try and kick it off again and I get a message to say a browser is already running, shutdown program or restart to continue.
Just tried it again, with Right Click and selecting Run and now I've got Failed to Start default web browser. Input/Output Error. It's been 15 years since I last used Linux in anger and we didn't have all this WYSIWYG stuff way back, so any pointers would be appreciated. BTY Network both wired and wireless, fine
How can I have multiple independent instances of Mozilla Firefox 3.5 on the same X server, but started from different user accounts (consequently, different profiles)?
Limited success was only with Xephyr :1, DISPLAY=:1 /usr/local/bin/firefox, but Xephyr has no Cygwin/X's "rootless" mode so it's not comfortable (see other question).
The idea is to have one Firefox instance for various "Serious Business" things and the other for regular browsing with dozens of add-ons securely isolated.
e.g.: I don't want to use Firefox Add-ons, and I need to be logged in several places [via HTTPS in ff], but it requires several proxys (so I don't want to install e.g.: foxyproxy). How can I exactly start several Firefox instances, so that I could use several proxys?
View 2 Replies View Relatedwhy firefox is not started if I use scheduler command 'at'. I can start firefox from terminal. But when I use 'at hours:min' it doesn't start. I tried 'firefox &' but it doesn't start too. If instead of 'firefox' I use 'mv fileName1 fileName2' the file is renamed as expected.

Edit: This problem started when I accidentally used a 64-bit package to upgrade my 32-bit system. I upgraded Firefox, and now it won't start. I don't know where to find any relevant error messages. How do I figure out what's wrong? I downloaded the Firefox update from [URL] and installed it with the command

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've used this approach to install Firefox 3.0.1 on my stock EEE PC, which has worked very well. I've since downloaded and installed version 3.6.12 for Linux, and I can start it up through the terminal with the command ~/firefox/firefox However, I can't start up 3.6.12 using the desktop icon; instead, it reverts back to version 3.0.1. How can I get the desktop icon to start 3.6.12?

View 3 Replies View RelatedToday in the morning I did update my system and my skype does not start anymore. Thiugh I am not sure if this is related to my new update(May 26), because it was in the morning and I didn't see if my skype was on/off. But definitely it doesn't work now. The first thing I tried was to uninstall and then reinstalling skype. It opens but when it tries to load the user(mine is set to automatically load user when skype starts) it just shuts down. I tried logging out. rebooting and shutting down my laptop. nothing works. And it used to work before without any problems.
I am running fresh install of Ubuntu 11.04, and skype beta 2.2
I tried to install Skype, using the Debian download from Skype, but it didn't want to play. I downloaded the Ubuntu 64-bit deb and installed it with Gdebi. I started the application from the terminal and accepted the 'User Agreement'. Skype then tried to log me on, and I got the following error and the app closed:

Well I cant find anything with the same or similar problem and I also can not uninstall skype using the wine uninstaller. It just doenst do it.

I just freshly installed 10.04 and I found that the sound doesn't work with Firefox and with Skype2.1.0.81 (though I get perfect output in Amarok and I can record from the mic just fine using QARecord). I have an Intel ALC880 integrated card and neither issue was present in 9.10.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Lenovo S10e netbook running a pretty clean version of 32bit opensuse 11.4, with very few standard patches since I installed it all those moons ago. The problem is that firefox cannot connect to the internet, the odd bit is that skype has no such problems. Are there any network related functions that that typically go screwy that might cause such a problem? The netbook really hasn't been used much for tinkering to have 'accumulated' a problem, but I'm about to give it to the extremely non-technical parents in law and cannot have it misbehaving, especially not as they are in a different country.

I've been using opensuse for about a week.(although I'm not completely a linux noob) I've been slowly moving more of the stuff I do on windows over to suse. I thought my sound was working fine until I decided to get mp3s running on amarok. I followed a bunch of guides which didn't work. While I was messing around with stuff I noticed a startup noise. I just assumed it didn't have a startup noise. At some point I broke all of my sound except running wine, so I reinstalled.
Now that I've noticed, none of my notification sounds work. Stuff like skype, firefox, and wine still give me sounds.
(If anyone could point me in the direction of a good place to get mp3s working on amarok would be nice as well.)

I'm relatively new to Linux and am currently working with my first installation from scratch . Fedora 14 was the latest available at the time I started my project.
Over the last couple of days I've been running across a couple of different issues. The last change I made before seeing these issue was to install samba. I can't say for sure that this is the cause of these issues.
Just to be clear, I did have Firefox working until last week.
Problem: Starting Firefox does not open a browser window.
----------
I'm try to start Firefox by clicking on the icon in the upper panel. This action displays a small black circle showing progress and a tab with 'Starting Firefox' on the lower panel. After a few seconds they disappear and nothing happens; no browser and no error messages either.
I looked in a few different places, which I thought were appropriate /var/log/messages, dmesg but I found these provide information about hardware.
Also tried invoking Firefox from the command line but it seems that this mode is not recommended in Fedora and throws out errors in both user and root mode. Doc with errors attached.
Listing 1 shows the error when calling firefox as user.
Listing 2 shows the error when calling firefox as root.
Listing 3 shows all the processes running in the system. (including in case it's useful).
I have tried reinstalling firefox, and removing and installing firefox using yum (yum lists reinstall as a separate option) but neither method resolves the issue.
After upgrade opensuse from 11.2 to 11.3 a cannot use firefox. I start firefox form shell and nothing. When I use strace then firefox stop on "waitpid(-1, ". Firefox work well only when i login as a root. I removed java sun plugin and started firefox in save-mode and check to disable all extensions etc and nothing to do.
View 5 Replies View RelatedEverytime I try to open firefox i keep getting this message "We're Sorry
Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts.
To help us diagnose and fix the problem, you can send us a crash report."
I restarted it, updated it, reinstalled it, but it still wont work. I do not know whats wrong with this, I am running in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, everything was working fine and now all of the sudden it stopped running.
There are 3 versions of Skype for Ubuntu on the Skype download section. Does anybody know which is the correct one for Ubuntu Karmic?
