I decided to update using "pacman -Syu", and it said:

I didn't know what to do, si I ran "pacman -S kdelibs" (BTW, phonon was not one of its dependencies). Then I tried to update again. Same thing! So I decided to run "pacman -Rns kdelibs" to get back to my previous state. But it says that some programs I have depend on it! How it that supposed to be if those programs worked before? Anyway, I decided to install phonon. But it said that it conflicts with Qt and asked me if I want to remove Qt!
I am trying to construct a script to use with pacman so I can stream line the process for my wife who is not as command line savy. The script below does not execute the second case statement however the same line works fine in the shell which I launched the script from.
I've come from Fedora and am trying out Arch Linux. I was wondering if the packager 'pacman' contains funcionality like that provided by 'yum whatprovides': provides or whatprovides Is used to find out which package provides some feature or file. Just use a specific name or a file- glob-syntax wildcards to list the packages available or installed that provide that feature or file.
I have been using OpenSuse 11.4 LXDE version for about 6-8 months. All worked fine. I noticed a few days ago that my file manager would not start from the tool-bar menu. I went to the kick of menu to find "File Manager" under system tools and it would not start from there either. I created a new folder on the desktop and tried opening it - it would not open. I can only assume its some sort of a bug and most likely occurred because of the recent computer update (I get regular notifications to update my system so I do it).
PackageKit is a system designed to make installing and updating software on your computer easier. The primary design goal is to unify all the software graphical tools used in different distributions, and use some of the latest technology like PolicyKit to make the process suck less.

I read the man page for yum, but maybe i'm missing it. Is there a way to have yum update everything that needs updating except for a certain thing? basically I want to say something like yum update everything except vsftpd, for example.
My Arch Linux can't update for over a few weeks now! It just says that everything is up to date and quits. But I hardly believe there weren't any updates, before there were a few updates a day!

I have looked elsewhere for an answer and some others have had similar problems, but I have not found a reason for it happening, nor an answer. I wonder if anyone can help me please. I have been using Ubuntu for several months, can use the Terminal if I have the right commands to issue, but beyond that have limited knowledge of the system.
As the title says i updated my system which then needed a reboot. I also installed Mixxx djing software to try it out. So i thought id just restart the system. Usually when i boot into my desktop wireless automatically can connect to my router but not this time, wired only for now... i know theres tons of wireless issue threads but some more experienced users will be able to get straight to the point and run through some diagnostics with me.

On two Centos5 servers, yum gives a segmentation fault error when trying 'yum update' or 'yum check-update' after running 'yum clean' :
[Code]....
The error is the same for the other computer except while attempting to update the rpmforge repository. Nothing has really changed on the servers in some time and 'yum update' worked fine on each yesterday and I have no idea why they would both suddenly fail!
