OpenSUSE :: LXDE PCMan (Pacman) File Manger Does Not Boot/open BUG?
Sep 8, 2011
I have been using OpenSuse 11.4 LXDE version for about 6-8 months. All worked fine. I noticed a few days ago that my file manager would not start from the tool-bar menu. I went to the kick of menu to find "File Manager" under system tools and it would not start from there either. I created a new folder on the desktop and tried opening it - it would not open. I can only assume its some sort of a bug and most likely occurred because of the recent computer update (I get regular notifications to update my system so I do it).

I have recently switched to using LXDE on my PC and I am on the whole pretty pleased with it. However,PCMan is giving me a really odd problem. Some of the files/folders are being displayed in the wrong order where they contain numbers. They are being ordered by their first digit not the whole number.

I have tried to make my own buntu running LXDE as the desktop environment though it is running smoothly on an old laptop it has a certain problem.
I have installed PCMan File Manager as the default file manager for the LXDE and not Thunar or Dolphin, but, I have a problem with opening files from there. The default application set to open all file types is the Terminal.
What I currently do to open the file is right click and choose "Open with.." to open the file in the appropriate application. Is there a way to set the default applications?
I have Ubuntu 9.10 from minimal CD install then got LXDE and installed the following applications aside from the applications that came with LXDE:
-OpenOffice.org suite
-Mozilla Firefox
-Google Picasa
-Wine
-VLC Player

I'm running an old P3 with 512 of Ram.I installed Opensuse 11.2 with the KDE desktop, and then I went online and used the one-click install to install the LXDE desktop. Now I'm trying to get my machine to boot directly to LXDE.If I end a KDE session, I can select LXDE as a new session and get into it fine. It seems to run well on this machine. But if I shutdown from LXDE, my next boot sends me straight into KDE. It seems the only way I can get to LXDE is to be in KDE first, which is kind of defeating the whole reason why I wanted a light weight and quick booting desktop for this machine.Am I missing something? I thought Opensuse automatically rebooted back into whatever desktop was used last?

I installed lxde from a live cd and can't boot into anything. At first, when I rebooted, the computer went to grub>, so I used grub commands to find the grub menu lst. It was in (hd0,5). So I made that the root and grub said it was successful. I rebooted, now I get error 25. Was I supposed to enable one of the boot options in the setup? The setup showed two boot options, MBR and root (I think), both disabled. I just clicked continue. Did I mess up the install setup?

This is an easy solve, I think. (I'm not having much luck with OpenSuse's one click install.) I installed screenlets using one click but can only start it via the command line. It never showed up in my Gnome menu system.
As an aside, I reverted to the old style gnome menu. I tried OpenSuse's updated Gnome menu but it seemed awkward. Is it just me?
Just noticed I misspelled manager. Is there a way to change the message header?

I'm having a wireless issue (go figure) where I can't get to the internet, can get to my LAN just fine, but trying to ping anywhere on the net just gives me "network unavailable" message. One thing I've seen noted here time and again is people saying "Use Yast vs Network manager" when I go through the Yast Network Devices GUI it tells me it's using network manager, and I need to use ifup (if I want to use Yast), however I have no clue how to go about changing it from one to the other?
Currently I'm using hard-link to get all the updates and see if that will resolve my problems, but figured I'd learn how I'm supposed to switch it for the future.

I installed LXDE in Ubuntu, and this caused the installation of PCMan. Now, somehow the PCMan File MAnager has replaced Nautilus. It is definitely faster, but still I prefer Nautilus. So, how may I replace PCMan with NAutilus as the default File-Manager?

I'm trying to use a software on OpenSuSE 11.3 (64) and am getting an error message similar to the one in the title. I did a bit of background reading on libjpeg.so.62 that the program was asking for. I noticed that I had a file called libjpeg.so.8 in my /usr/lib/ folder. I found a libjpeg.so.62 file online, downloaded it and copied to to my /usr/lib folder, but its not making any difference.

I've come from Fedora and am trying out Arch Linux. I was wondering if the packager 'pacman' contains funcionality like that provided by 'yum whatprovides': provides or whatprovides Is used to find out which package provides some feature or file. Just use a specific name or a file- glob-syntax wildcards to list the packages available or installed that provide that feature or file.

Which LXDE version of Linux has the newest version of Firefox and Open Office included?
I am looking for an iso file, and I am trying to run this off of a live CD for now. So I want a light version of Linux, probably LXDE, or if not, then probably XFCE. But I need a new version of Firefox and OpenOffice included.
Because, I tried burning the customizable NimbleX @ custom.nimblex.net . Pretty good, except it uses Firefox 2, and Open Office 2.3, which are outdated.
And I tried Mint XFCE, which might have been pretty good too, but it had some issue of blanking and requiring relogin after I opened hotmail frequently (user id: mint, password: blank).
The web browser and the word processing program are the most important and essential applications to me.
So are there any Linux versions in LXDE on LiveCD that include newer versions of Firefox (or at least another good browser) and Open Office (oo seems better than abi)? (Again, if no LXDE, perhaps XFCE?)
I just want to download a good version in an iso file, and burn it to a CD and get to work. Like I said the web browser and the word processing program are all important.
So really, what iso/LiveCD versions are the fastest for running on an older system, and yet have the newest browser and word processor included?

I've got it to the point it will run when you login by adding a line to the /etc/xdg/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart file. Added "synergyc 111.111.1.11" and it works perfect. So the main question is, how can I add that line somewhere, somehow to start on boot and not by login?

I got the latest Skype and installed it (Kpackage kit did the installation -- there was no other way for me to use YaST instead -- at least I didn't know of any). Kpackage kit said that it installed ok and said that it resolved dependencies yet Skype would not start. Then I uninstalled that one and tried installing a older version that I had (it worked just fine in 11.2) but that wouldn't start either, so I uninstalled that one. Then I deleted the .skype folder from my /home directory (and now I can't find it in the trash folder so that I can undo the delete) and then I had tried re-installing the newer version of Skype but that did not fix anything, it still won't start.
When I try to start it from the terminal (just by typing skype) I get this message:
Code:
skype: error while loading shared libraries: libXv.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
In YaST, I saw that I do have libXv.so.1 and it's 64 bit. (I have the 64 bit version of SuSE 11.4). I thought I could run 32 bit apps too (if that is the problem)? How can I fix this?

I use the debootstrap to make a base Debian System of the ARM architecture for BananaPro [URL]... , and install the LXDE desktop. But the keyboard and mouse didn't response after the LXDE boot.
If I use the Debian system without the LXDE desktop, and it is normal. Meanwhile, I only installed the framebuffer driver, and can't find the right GPU driver to install.
Is caused by the lack of the GPU driver ? and what should i do ?

I created a key pair in kgpg on suse 11.1 kgpg version 1.2.2. i am able to encrypted and decrypted files on the pc with no issues. I then exported the public key for the key pair created above, placed on flash drive and moved to my laptop running suse 11.2.
i open kgpg version 2.2.2 and imported the key, all was good. I then passed the file encrypted on 11.1 to the 11.2 laptop and with kgpg tried to decrypt the file, but the decrypting failed. The details shows the public key i just imported and then it says gpg:decryption failed: No Secret key.
I am not clear why on it is failing and if i missed a step some where along the way.
