View 7 RepliesI want to upgrade to Meerkat from Lucid but am unable to find the upgrade in my Package Manager.I have been receiving and installing regular updates recently so I don't think there is any problem with receiving notice of updates other than the Meerkat update.Did notice that my packages have not been updated in 46 days.how to update the packages if it is.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI currently have Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick netbook edition installed and I am using Unity. I understand there are updates to Unity since it was bundled with Ubuntu. When I do:
Code:
$ unity --version
I get:
Quote:
Unity 0.2.46
How do I update to a more recent version of Unity? Or do I have to wait until I upgrade to Natty?
I am running on ubuntu 11.04, and to keep my system uptodate, i am randomly checking and installing updates, but this time it showed me error, see the screenshot
I already checked (after googling) the canonical partner and canonical partner(source something) repositories under synaptic >settings>repos.. and nothing happened, the error is still there..
I have an 10.10 Maverick Ubuntu, and I've tried to update it to Natty version, but when I try it says to I check my connection with Internet and then close the update app, but my connection is fine, I think this could be something related to the host, since when I try to use sudo or play Frets on Fire it says that they "couldn't resolve the host".

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was messing around with some stuff I probably shouldn't have when trying to get my Intel graphics card working better (that's another problem completely). Now the update manager has ceased to work. Every time I try to use it this error pops up:
Quote:
Could not initialize the package information
An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information.
Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
'E:Type [url] is not known on line 57 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list'
When I run the update manager in XUbuntu (natty/11:04) it does not show its progress while installing the upgrades.
After clicking on "install updates" and authenticating, there used to be a popup window with a progress bar and an option to show "details" but these appear to have disappeared in the last few days.
I don't recall switching these features off and there are no settings to restore them, available within the GUI. Is there another way of restoring this functionality?
If not, is a reinstall the way to go? If so what package(s) need re-installing? And in-case it is a configuration script, what files in my home directory need deleting to ensure a clean reinstall.
I am trying to update using Update Manager and I get this message: Failed to fetch "Failed to fetch [URL]..404 Not Found" My system is 64 days out of date now.
I have looked elsewhere for an answer and some others have had similar problems, but I have not found a reason for it happening, nor an answer. I wonder if anyone can help me please. I have been using Ubuntu for several months, can use the Terminal if I have the right commands to issue, but beyond that have limited knowledge of the system.
having had problems with getting grub2 to work on dual HDD setup...despite the most excellent advice on the forum i took the plunge and installed 10.10 from update manager within 10.04..... bingo fixed grub and now have dual boot again. but the update manager and synaptic package don't work because of libedata-cal1.2-6 file that remains..following other advice on the forum Advice gratefully received, how can i force an unistall of this package

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat and I'd like to know when does the update manager upgrade the system to Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal. I do not want it to do the upgrade too early,as this might cause problems.I heard they're going to release Natty by the end of April, when it passes the beta stage but it will take 3-4 months for the bugs to be fixed. Also, please answer my other thread,it has new posts: [URL]
View 2 Replies View RelatedI started the upgrade to 10.4 from 9.10 through the update manager. It started the update to 10.4. After downloading almost 95% of the update, it gave an error message of "could not download certain components. downloaded files will not be erased" and stopped the update. I restarted the PC, and started the update manager again. But now it does not show any option of update to 10.4. how do I continue or resume the update process? I just started using ubuntu about 15 days back. So, I am relatively new to this.

When i do update from Terminal, i dont get all updates which are in Update manager. Why?
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
I've run the command "sudo apt-get update" from terminal, showing no update to do.Then I've run the update manager (System-Administration-Update Manager) and it has shown an update (adobe flash).I thought that "apt-get update" command and update manager were the same... Why do I have different results ? Is something missing in my "sources.list" file ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedNormally Update Manager always finds the update to the next version of Ubuntu. It still hasn't given me any notion whatoever. I allready changed the settings from regular to LTS, but nothing changes. There are updates to the kernel, but I cannot download them, so I'm kinda stuck here.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhy isn't there a clear warning against selecting the 'update' option in Meerkat?I know it seems like a good idea to have it, but unless a server speed test is run, it adds a huge amount of time to the install (3 1/2 hours of downloading so far). It's not my internet connection (ADSL2+ - fast), so it must be an overloaded server and/or congested intercontinental data pipes.
After the installation, it's possible to find one's optimal (fastest) server before running updates - and I know from past experience that this makes a huge difference to little old me in Australia. I can certainly update everything much faster than I am currently seeing . I strongly recommend that, if this option is kept in future distributions, it should include a server speed test (and auto selection of the best server?) as well as a realistic warning to the user.
