Nov 6, 2010I want to upgrade to Meerkat from Lucid but am unable to find the upgrade in my Package Manager.I have been receiving and installing regular updates recently so I don't think there is any problem with receiving notice of updates other than the Meerkat update.Did notice that my packages have not been updated in 46 days.how to update the packages if it is.

Jul 26, 2011I have an 10.10 Maverick Ubuntu, and I've tried to update it to Natty version, but when I try it says to I check my connection with Internet and then close the update app, but my connection is fine, I think this could be something related to the host, since when I try to use sudo or play Frets on Fire it says that they "couldn't resolve the host".

May 13, 2011I was messing around with some stuff I probably shouldn't have when trying to get my Intel graphics card working better (that's another problem completely). Now the update manager has ceased to work. Every time I try to use it this error pops up:

Ubuntu :: Natty Update Manager GUI: Not Showing Progress
May 18, 2011When I run the update manager in XUbuntu (natty/11:04) it does not show its progress while installing the upgrades.
After clicking on "install updates" and authenticating, there used to be a popup window with a progress bar and an option to show "details" but these appear to have disappeared in the last few days.
I don't recall switching these features off and there are no settings to restore them, available within the GUI. Is there another way of restoring this functionality?
If not, is a reinstall the way to go? If so what package(s) need re-installing? And in-case it is a configuration script, what files in my home directory need deleting to ensure a clean reinstall.

Jul 4, 2010I am trying to update using Update Manager and I get this message: Failed to fetch "Failed to fetch [URL]..404 Not Found" My system is 64 days out of date now.
I have looked elsewhere for an answer and some others have had similar problems, but I have not found a reason for it happening, nor an answer. I wonder if anyone can help me please. I have been using Ubuntu for several months, can use the Terminal if I have the right commands to issue, but beyond that have limited knowledge of the system.

Mar 14, 2011having had problems with getting grub2 to work on dual HDD setup...despite the most excellent advice on the forum i took the plunge and installed 10.10 from update manager within 10.04..... bingo fixed grub and now have dual boot again. but the update manager and synaptic package don't work because of libedata-cal1.2-6 file that remains..following other advice on the forum Advice gratefully received, how can i force an unistall of this package

May 2, 2010I started the upgrade to 10.4 from 9.10 through the update manager. It started the update to 10.4. After downloading almost 95% of the update, it gave an error message of "could not download certain components. downloaded files will not be erased" and stopped the update. I restarted the PC, and started the update manager again. But now it does not show any option of update to 10.4. how do I continue or resume the update process? I just started using ubuntu about 15 days back. So, I am relatively new to this.

May 14, 2011Since upgrading to Natty I have a very annoying issue and since I am unable to resolveWhenever I start the synaptics package manager I get the following message:An error occurred:E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem. Nov 22, 2010Why isn't there a clear warning against selecting the 'update' option in Meerkat?I know it seems like a good idea to have it, but unless a server speed test is run, it adds a huge amount of time to the install (3 1/2 hours of downloading so far). It's not my internet connection (ADSL2+ - fast), so it must be an overloaded server and/or congested intercontinental data pipes.
After the installation, it's possible to find one's optimal (fastest) server before running updates - and I know from past experience that this makes a huge difference to little old me in Australia. I can certainly update everything much faster than I am currently seeing . I strongly recommend that, if this option is kept in future distributions, it should include a server speed test (and auto selection of the best server?) as well as a realistic warning to the user.
