I got serious difficulties to import pictures from my Canon 5D on my Lynx 64b system. When I tried to import pictures with F-Spot using a USB Cable, I got the following error:
Code: Error GeneralError: LibGPhoto2.GPḧotoException: Erreur indfinie at LibGPhoto2.Error.CheckError (ErrorCode error) [0x00000] etc.
But with my Canon G11 still with the USB cable, everything works!I have no idea why. And if I try to copy my pics without F-Spot, just with nautilus, it doesn't work. The G11 uses a SD card and the 5D a CF card. May be a problem with that ? or with the filesystem ? I don't know.
For those that use Virtualbox on their slackware host and have a windows (xp) guest running. I have tried various settings for sound (Alsa, PulseAudio), the AC97 drivers are installed in the Windows xp guest os, but there is no sound and there is an unknown audio device (in the windows device manager). If I remove the AC97 drivers and use the soundblaster16 drivers in the Vbox settings there is no unknown sound device, but there's still no sound. why I can't get sound working?
I got a problem with my kernel. The initramfs source is busybox, python and gcc from ubuntu. The busybox have i compiled it self. Python and gcc is from /usr/bin. I gonna install my kernel on a i586 machine. Old yes. On the xTerm (termial) it stand "root device 8,1).

I'm trying to install a Linux driver for my wireless network card (D-Link DWL-G510) on my Red Hat Linux 7.1 machine with a 2.4.37.9 kernel. I downloaded the serial monkey driver from the sourceforge site and was able to successfully compile the rt73 module and load it into the kernel. The problem now is that everytime I issue the command ifconfig wlan0 up it keeps returning with the following error message: wlan0: unknown interface: No such device.
I'm at a loss as to what to do here. I specifed wlan0 as the alias for the rt73 module in the modules.conf and also tried to load the driver with the command modprobe rt73 ifname=wlan0 (this specifies the interface name according to the instructions packaged in the driver), but the error message still keeps coming up.
Is there something else I need to do in Linux to configure the wlan0 part or is the module not recognizing the wireless network card? It would be quite strange if it is the later since all information from the Internet is indicating this is the linux driver I should be using for mentioned wireless card.
I have an internal card reader that connect via usb. I'm finding that when I plug in a memory card a umount of the card "unmounts" the card reader. From that point forward I can't use the device without rebooting the machine! I've tried unloading the usb-storage module and reloading it but that doesn't help. I see the following entries in the messages file when I do that.
I installed Kubuntu 10.04 last couple days ago. Yesterday I installed some package software. After reboot, I had problem to login in GUI in Kubuntu. I tried few solutions in web I found, Now It became more worse ! After BIOS - show this error message error : unknown filesystem grub rescue>
I have dual boot with Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7. Today, after using Partition Wizard on Windows to resize its partition, I got the following message when reboot:
Code:
I dont actually know what to do, I've been reading some threads on the internet but nothing equal to my case, only people who installed Windows after Linux and lost GRUB. Do I just need a live CD to reinstall GRUB? Can somebody tell what to do?
I am getting this message: internal compiler error: Segmentation fault
Please submit a full bug report, with preprocessed source if appropriate. for every compilation that takes longer (ie: linux kernel, kde sources etc.)
I've tried other OS (at that moment I was on Fedora 12, now on Debian; was a Suse also) and it didn't work. I've tried replacing my hard disk, since it needed an upgrade either ways - that didn't work either. I assumed that it's the RAM fault - tested them with memtest and it says they are fine. Does anyone know what else I can do in order to figure out where the problem is?
I just compiled my first own kernel (I'm using Arch Linux), following the tutorial on the german site. Now I tried to boot it, I ended up failing with this message: Code: Waiting 10 seconds for device /dev/sda1 ... Root device '/dev/sda1' doesn't exist, Attempting to create it. ERROR: Unable to determine major/minor number of root device '/dev/sda1' Here is the important part of my menu.lst:
[Code]....
I simply copy&pasted the Arch-entry, i.e. I also had the disk by uuid there. The failure message was the same, just the root device name was the different name Also, at first I did not have the initrd line in my menu.lst (as written in my tutorial that I may not need it). In this case I had this error message:
I have windows vista. i tried installed linux-ubuntu 9.10 but not knowing after a point on how to proceed further, i quit half-way. so my partition (14 gb)remained wasted. i tried installing again in a new partition and got it done. from my newly installed lunux, i tried to delete that 14gb partition. and now when i restart my laptop, i get this error :
I have a pc that was running with the latest version of ubuntu and i wanted to install just vista for somereasons.
And what i did is to format the main driver and try to boot it from vista CD and as you may guess i have an error that says: unknown file system grub rescue
Each time i start the pc. I have an ubuntu live cd and also the vista cd, so what should i do now? the vista cd dosnt boot and the same screen appears all the time.
I want to ask about Kmail. I have Kmail from Mandriva. I use Kmail for My Email. And When I reply Message, I found some trouble.

The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder. This transport protocol was used: smtp.net
How to solve this email error I get when I try to send email via KMail.
I just installed ubuntu on my computer that already had windows 7 on it so I could dual boot them. After installing ubuntu and playing around on it a little I went back onto windows. I then restarted my computer and now it won't startup. I get an error that says unknown filetype grub rescue<. I don't know what to do to get back into windows or ubuntu.
Having some troubles mounting my DVD-RW after a reinstall of ubuntu. Now using 10.10. Code: root@Johnsky:/# wodim --devices wodim: Overview of accessible drives (1 found) : ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0 dev='/dev/scd0'rwrw-- : 'HL-DT-ST' 'DVDRAM GH20NS10' ------------------------------------------------------------------------- So there's my scd0 sitting pretty. Trying to mount it.
Code: root@Johnsky:/# mount -a /dev/scd0 /media/cdrom0 mount: /dev/sr0: unknown device root@Johnsky:/# sr0?
Code: root@Johnsky:/# ls -l /dev/ total 0 .....
Lets try mounting sr0 directly instead. Code: root@Johnsky:/# mount -a /dev/sr0 /media/cdrom0 mount: /dev/sr0: unknown device sr0 is still an unknown device.
I'm thinking when I reinstalled Ubuntu, it made some screwy links between devices. But I have no idea how to resolve this... and there's no point in my mind to adding the DVD-RW to /etc/fstab until I can actually mount it manually to know it mounts successfully. Back when I installed Ubuntu 9.x on this machine, I never had any of these issues. It picked up the DVD-RW automatically, appended it to fstab during installation, and done. But 10.10 seems to be having some troubles my 9.x installation didn't.
It's been ages since I've been on here I've been messing around with BackTrack. I've come back to Ubuntu but seem to be having some problems getting my wireless network thingy working. Here are the specs of my system. Any advice on fixing this would be very very apprciated.
On another note I'm trying to run debain I've got no startx on there or anything like that it's feeling very basic atm. I want to keep startx outta there but I can't connect to the Internet and run apt-get install to grab handy things.
I'm hoping whatever I am gonna do to solve this on Ubuntu will let me connect up to my wireless network with the internal network thingy. However if it doesn't I'm guessin I can just connect up physically to the router. Any tips on doing this from the command line?
Yesterday I installed the latest version of ubuntu to my computer that was already running windows 7. I had everything working fine until in windows I deleted a partition that had nothing in it.
After this I restarted but I can't get into either OS. I get an error that says Error: unknown filesystem grub rescue>
I think I need to fix something in grub. I have been booting off of a usb stick with linux on it in the mean time.

If I could I would change the boot order but I can't do that (I have a Dell Studio 1747). I try F2 to enter the BIOS set up, but I still end up with that error and never get to the setup. F12 doesn't work either (F12 is for the boot order) so I can't boot from the DVD with the Win7 installation DVD as the computer just freezes and I can't get past the Dell splash screen.
I have tried to remove the coin battery on the motherboard in an attempt to reset the BIOS but that didn't work either.
So...
F2 = error F12 = freeze Reset bios by removing coin size battery = no change
I assume there is no use reformatting the HD by attaching it to another computer and re-install Win7. Is it a motherboard problem?
I want write a 2-way chat application in the my website, and i have to use the juggernaut plugin. but a recieved an error that " internal server error"
I installed 11.1 when it first came out. The PC I used gave up the ghost and I bought a refurbie, HP xw4100 and installed the 11.1 drive in it. All works except Internet connection. I am befuddled, bemused, confused and at a complete loss! The router on USB is not detected.

I am sharing files between three computers: ubuntu pc , windows xp pc and windows vista pc.( using samba ) Windows xp displays ubuntu pc correctly but vista does not, ubuntu pc is displayed as unknown device.Despite of this i connect vista and ubuntu via ip. I would like see my ubuntu pc in windows vista network.
Unfortunately I've had no luck with using the default intel driver. It's strange really, you can see the gnome screen for a split second then it turns the display off like it's activating the external monitor or something. If I change the driver to vesa everything is fine.
I can get sound out of my machine just fine, but for some reason, no matter what audio player I use, every time I change the song or pause playing half my speakers will kill sound and it will seem like the sound profile has reverted to Analog Surround 5.0 Output. When I check my sound configuration it still lists 5.1, and I have to select another setting then change it back to 5.1 to get my speakers all functioning again.
I downloaded the ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso file from the website, extracted it, and ran the Wbiu.exe file - it prompted to get my info and then restart. Upon restarting, I then had the choice to run Windows or Ubuntu, and I've been running Ubuntu ever since.
I ran into some speed-bumps. Upon entering the Ubuntu option at my start-up prompt, I go to another prompt asking me to choose from: Ubuntu, linux 2.6.31-20 Generic Ubuntu, linux 2.6.31.20 Recovery mode Ubuntu, linux 2.6.31-14 Generic Ubuntu, linux 2.6.31-14 Recovery mode Windows 7 installer Windows Vista installer I've been choosing the very first one, the 31-20 generic, but just this morning after downloading some programs from the Synaptic and transferring a few Gbs of music, I received this error prompt: Code: [2.879604] Kernel panic -- not syncing: VFS : Unable to mount roof fs on unknown--block (8,2) After that, I've been running the 2.6.31-14 generic installer. I have no idea what any of this means and I've spent time crawling through threads trying to figure it out. I mean, it still WORKS but I just help but think I've done something very wrong. ALERT: SUDO PASSWORD QUESTION
I hope the cautionary sign above has dispelled any annoyed gurus who have answered this question dozens of times before. I've crawled through my fair share of threads concerning this, the best corollary being the following: forum/linux-newbie/157773-solved-sudo-password-errors-usb-internet-issues.html; which, strangely enough, was never really solved. Like the user in that thread, when I access the terminal and type in a command, the next line invariably states "[sudo] password for jacob' -- when I hit enter and type in the long list of possibilities I've read (read: sudo, su, su root, su passwd, sudo passwd, sudo root, et al.), alas, nothing happens but the same statement.
i am just learning about computers and know nothing at all except how to turn it on. i just booted up linux and recieved message: [0800654] Kernel Panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown - block (8,1)
