I have an internal card reader that connect via usb. I'm finding that when I plug in a memory card a umount of the card "unmounts" the card reader. From that point forward I can't use the device without rebooting the machine! I've tried unloading the usb-storage module and reloading it but that doesn't help. I see the following entries in the messages file when I do that.

On another note I'm trying to run debain I've got no startx on there or anything like that it's feeling very basic atm. I want to keep startx outta there but I can't connect to the Internet and run apt-get install to grab handy things.
I'm hoping whatever I am gonna do to solve this on Ubuntu will let me connect up to my wireless network with the internal network thingy. However if it doesn't I'm guessin I can just connect up physically to the router. Any tips on doing this from the command line?
Can you please do me favor and let me know how can I check for the presence of inernal (built-in) Bluetooth device on my Linux server ?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can get sound out of my machine just fine, but for some reason, no matter what audio player I use, every time I change the song or pause playing half my speakers will kill sound and it will seem like the sound profile has reverted to Analog Surround 5.0 Output. When I check my sound configuration it still lists 5.1, and I have to select another setting then change it back to 5.1 to get my speakers all functioning again.

I am working on an embedded system, which is an USB MSC device that supports some vendor specific scsi commands. I am using FC10 laptop as USB host for testing, and it runs some small apps based on sg3. All has been well for ~ a week. The FC10 laptop is able to communicate with the device and retrieve data. Suddenly, starting from today, the laptop is not able to properly detect the device. When plugged-in, the MSC device is detected as input device (I thought). This is observed from "dmesg" output and changes in "/dev/input/".The device under development is running at full speed. When I connect to winXP, no problem. A windows file explorer pops up, showing the content of the drive.Also, the FC10 has no problem with other USB flash drive (high speed).

Watching through /var/log/messages it says that F10 detects two port device for this modem: ttyUSB1 and ttyUSB2, and in the sequence it disable port ttyUSB1 BUT Network Manager still set this port.I mean, when i connect via wvdial appointing to ttyUSB2 i get connection, but Network Manager fails to do it appointing to ttyUSB1. How to change device port in Network Manager?
View 1 Replies View RelatedRunning Fedora 13, I cannot add my HP J4680 through the HP Device Manager. I get an error message saying that the print queue cannot be started and it asks me to restart CUPS. I tried restarting CUPS and adding the device. It did not work. The printer is on my home network wirelessly. I can add it through the CUPS web interface and print, but then I cannot access the scanner. I tried adding the device after it was already added through CUPS, but that did not work. I would like to use the scanner; I don't really care about the fax.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have installed Fedora 7 on an old Dell laptop. The laptop has an internal wifi card that works. How can I get Fedora 7 to access the internal card? BTW I'm using an older version of Fedora because Fedora 12 causes the system to hang. I guess it just doesn't have the resources needed to run 12. I've used 7 on this machine before and it works great, but I've never been able to access the internal wifi card.

And the 'Input' page seems not bad because I can drag the Input volume. However, the 'Input level' is empty, or only 1 bar even I drag the 'Input volume' to maximum.Analog Stereo Output and Analog Stereo Duplex (the one I am using) are the two give me output sound. But none seem to work with my internal mic. I haven't tried an external mic, though, because I do not have one.There seems to be no more "advanced volume control" that I used in Fedora 12. Also, there seems to be no more ALSA devices or PulseAlsa devices?

When I run Fedora now I can see two network interfaces (eth0 e eth1): the first connect Fedora to Ubuntu, the second should be my internal network (right?! I'm not sure about this). DHCP server doesn't seem to work, and I don't know how I can configure the network in a static way..
I am trying to run Fedora on my PPC Mac. The mac has a broken internal CD rom drive. I do have a external one but I don't know how to boot it from the external CD drive. I also tried using a backup program called Superduper! (Superduper! is designed to make a bootable backup) but that just copped the Fedora files to my usb without making it bootable.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy hard drive is partitioned in 12 partitions (for various reasons) anyways I am having two issues when I mount my data partition. Firstly I can only write/edit files on the partition when I am under root. Second when it mounts it uses the drive's UUID as the mount name in /media (so it is horribly long!) is there a way I can force it to mount under a different name? I tried right clicking on the drive like I am able to do in Ubuntu and set a "mount point" but Fedora does not have this option.

Running FC12 on Dell optiplex 745, Intel's 82801H and using Pulse (did not change anything from fresh install).
Sound works great, but for some reason, I can not disable the internal speaker that sits on the motherboard. meaning, if I play something it comes out from the audio output in the back (its going to amplifier) and also from the friggin internal speaker, a bit annoying...
I've been installing all kind of pulse management tools, can't find how to disable this.
didn't find anything in the board's BIOS.
I don't see pcskpr loaded (I guess its not used anymore).

I've been wondering lately about what would be the best approach to take concerning WiFi on my laptop (or laptops in general) ? Understand my question concerning this is ONLY about performance and no other issue.
What is the better thing to do:
a) install a new (better) WiFi card inside my laptop,
b) remove the card inside my laptop and use a WiFi USB stick,
c) remove the card inside my laptop and use a WiFi PCMCIA card?
Is simply being external to the laptop going to give me better performance in terms of locating and using a WiFi connection? On the laptop I'm currently using I know that merely rotating the laptop can boost the connection signal strenght by 15% or more. So, I'm really wondering about this. btw, I'm seriously giving thought to glueing a 3 or 4 inch lenght of 1/2 inch pvc pipe to the lid of my laptop as a holder for a homebrew parabolic WiFi dish. The idea is to attach the USB WiFi stick to a piece of coat hanger wire. Then slide the bottom and top of the coat hanger wire into a piece of paper (that's had aluminum foil glued to it) forming a parabola behind the WiFi stick. By rotating the parabola in the pvc holder I can instantly directionalize the reception/transmission of the Wifi USB stick. I'm wondering if anyone in the forum has experienced the difference between an internal vs an external WiFi device? Secondarily, has anyone in the forum tried the parabola trick?
I went through the Fedora 11 DVD setup process up to the partition screen, which does show my external SATA drive correct as; /dev/sda when connected by eSATA, but it shows the internal drive which is a standard IDE, as; /dev/sdf , when it should be as; sdb, why ? I did run that fdisk -l in a terminal from one of my other installed Linux, and it did show drives as correct, ( sda, sdb ). I think this may be a issue related to the digital media card reader built into this 2006 Gateway desktop computer being detected as drives like Windows does and assigns drive letters, or is this some bug in Fedora 11 ?

Everything else seems to work, including all of the programs I've installed from non-Fedora sources i.e. DOSEmu, Adobe Flash plug-in and Cannon LBP-660 printer driver.
After upgrading to Fedora 12 (back when it came out) and then installing the Adobe Reader 9, I was unable to run it as it always came up with a little dialog saying "Internal Error". Same error from web browser when trying to load a PDF. Been ignoring it as there are other PDF viewers.... Got an update to the reader this morning and it did the same thing. Soooo, thought it was time to hunt down the problem if I could. Skipping all the 'what I looked for', I found in my user directory a symbolic link ".adobe > /dev/null" . After deleting this entry (rm .adobe) the problem went away. The reader recreated a new .adobe entry and all is well again.

Facts:1. When I login using GNOME, both volumes (MASSIVE & BACKUP) are listed on my desktop2. My /etc/fstab has long since been edited to reflect these drives3. Using XFCE: Although the volumes don't show on the desktop, they are indeed mounted. I can see them when performing a "df -h" as well as when opening "File System" and drilling to /media - they are both there. I can also access the contents of both volumes within "File System" (using Thunar).4. Using XFCE: I can access both volumes via command line5. Using XFCE: External drives are not affected. I have one external USB drive that shows and when I plug my Android phone, it too shows on the desktop.
After some exploring, I installed the following:Oct 01 22:17:29 Installed: xfce4-mount-plugin-0.5.5-4.fc12.i686I then added "Mount Devices" to my panel, but...as you've probably figured out - they're already mounted.
