General :: Unable To Complete An Update Since Clean Installed?

I Have not been able to complete an update since i clean installed Lynx: Perhaps you'l understand my situation better than me by looking at these messages:
"Not all updates can be installed Attempt a partial ingrade?" When i attempted a partial upgrade, It will hang all day at:
Setting up libgdatal.4-cil (1.4.0.2-3) Installing 14 assemblies from libgdatal. 4-cil into Mono. Another mssge i get is. Software index is broken
It is impossible to install or remove any software. Please use the package manager "Synaptic" or run "sudo apt-get install -f" in a terminal to fix this issue at first.

My internet connectivity is not that fast. Since I am using Squeeze, there will be very frequent updates.
My problem is that I am not able to download all the update in one go and to complete the upgrade. As the number of files to be downloaded and upgraded increases, I can't seem to be able to reach the end point to complete any update.
Can aptitude upgrade just the files that have been downloaded so far, and resume downloading the rest in the next attempt? MS Windows will update the OS with whatever patches downloaded without waiting for the rest if I prematurely shutdown the pc.

I installed the Eclipse IDE using Ubuntu packages. (Version 3.5.1. Package name:eclipse).A few days back, version 3.5.2 was released. I would like to update, so I added the following websites to the list of available ones:

I then tried with Check for Updates. While on my Mac installation this results in an update to 3.5.2, on Ubuntu the program says there is nothing to update.If I try to install manually, choosing Install New Software and the then selecting the Eclipse Platform 3.5.2, I get the following error:

I used to have great times with Ubuntu prior to 9.10,dual booting with Windows XP, Vista,and 7.How after installing Ubuntu 9.10, there are more than 200 updates. Several times Ubuntu cannot complete the update.I installed half of the updates, still no good. After the update I can boot into Win. 7 but not into Ubuntu. wesley is my login name; pc-1 is the name of my pc.What must I do to fix this? or, log in, or whatever.I can delete Ubuntu and re-install it, and I've done that several times, but the updates come up again and that is what messing me up again.

On two Centos5 servers, yum gives a segmentation fault error when trying 'yum update' or 'yum check-update' after running 'yum clean' :

The error is the same for the other computer except while attempting to update the rpmforge repository. Nothing has really changed on the servers in some time and 'yum update' worked fine on each yesterday and I have no idea why they would both suddenly fail!

I have a Proliant 7000 with 4 interfaces across 2 cards - 3 intel 10/100Tx and 1 intel 100FX. During install it detected the 3 tx interfaces - but couldnt see the network - post install the network devices were no longer there, their devices missing from /dev/.
Neither google nor a forum search have been particularly edifying, is this a known issue with any cards? If so is there a known fix? ifconfig gives me information for loopback only as expected.

new kernel not in use, and grub setup, using 'local'
the now new 10.04 LTS as it calls itself is loading and large parts working.

I'm working on a custom Ubuntu 10.04 live cd, and I've found updating the Plymouth splash uses up a lot more disk space. The culprit seems to be the command update-initramfs -u, which is needed to apply the new splash image. I'm guessing it's making a new intrd image or something.

Just did the most recent set of updates late yesterday (kernel and Nvidia). Since the update I cannot get to a login screen - just blinking cursor. In fact the cursor blinks for a bit then disapears only to reappear as if there are repeated attempts to complete a process unsuccessfully.
The update replaced the xorg.conf. I tied a couple of revisions, inlcuding replacing it with the earlier working xorg.conf. No luck.
Hardware is MSI K9N6GM board with Nvidia Geforce 6100 nforce 430.

Still, I had a properly functioning system. I then decided to install selinux since I was interested in learning how to set it up and get familiar with it's security features. latest update to 11.3 a complete failure afterwards on reboot I'm instructed that I must first install kernel and to strike any key to exit which return me to grub menu. thats it for me and Osuse. 11.3 has been one bug after another and to much for me overcome. I will return once a day to see if anyone can fix this/

Here is my problem: I am using ubuntu 10.10 64 bit installed on a HP tx2 1274nr laptop. I can get my wireless to work on both the Broadcom B43 wireless driver and the Broadcom STA wireless driver. Though only one can be active at a time.
My problem lies in I can activate either driver until I reboot the laptop. then it becomes inactive.
Is there a fix for this problem. I would like to have my wireless active after restarting.

Decided to upgrade my 8.04 server to 10.04 today. Everything went smooth when I tried to install in vmware. When I tried to install it on my real machine the installation hangs at 74% Storing Language...
I've checked the disk and I tried different ways to install (different language, both keyboard and system). The first two attempts the installer just turns off and the computer reboots. This third time it just hangs. how to debug and solve this problem?
It's the x86_64 version. I'm using the standard options all the time including LVM on whole disk.

I m Not able to do complete my cluster Configuration. I have done my Cluster configuration but when i m running the system-config-cluster command the cluster configuration window appear, but after closing the window it is giving me the following error [root@node1 ~]# system-config-cluster. # when the window opens, I get the below error. When I did a search everthing pointed to the 2 rpms. I verified the version of the rpms cman and openais, they are:

I was using Fedora 9 until about 1 month ago when my hard drive crashed. I installed F12 on a new hard drive last week. Due to some other software issues (empathy), I decided I should try to get the latest updates. PackageKit kept giving errors and would not update. So, I researched and found that I needed to run " su -c 'yum update' " for the first update then PackageKit would work. I did this and after about an hour of updating, the screen went black. Nothing you can do at that point but hard reboot.
When I did that, I could only get a "GRUB" command line. I played with it for a minute but really I have no idea what to do with GRUB cmd (beyond my experience level). So I decided to wipe it out and reinstall F12. I did that, and was just working thru the updates again. Same thing happened, went to black screen. I have not rebooted it yet, but Im sure when I do, it will be GRUB again. What in the world am I supposed to do with this? I am not a Linux star, but I have been using it for around 8 years now with various distros, so I would say I have at least moderate experience.

I am unable to complete the installation of Slack 13.0 on a new machine with Intel DH55HC motherboard and Intel Core i5 750 processor. The installation proceeds smoothly until the 3'rd CD and then hangs at the FONTCONFIG UPDATE stage. The hung process is apparently rescan-scsi-bus which reaches this stage

It is not possible to kill this process even with "kill -9". I have to kill the parent process which is Slack setup, so the installation is incomplete. There is another recent thread on this issue [URL] but it did not resolve my problem. How to correct or bypass this difficulty (maybe another kernel? I use the default).

I'm trying to install Ubuntu on an Aspire laptop with Windows XP. I downloaded 10.04 and burned an ISO image. I boot Windows and open the ISO disk. I tried to update to Ubuntu 11.04 from 10.10, and I got a strange error like "Unable to calculate changes, package ubuntu-desktop is needed but not going to be installed". Then the sistem claimed to return back to the previous state, but now ALL the package are marked as "upgradable", and the Software Updater is suggesting me to do a "partial upgrade". What happened? How I can get back with a coherent system? I don't installed the xubuntu-desktop, BTW.

I tried to set up an alias for update, upgrade and clean by putting this line into my .bach.rc file
