I am attempting to update my system. I ran the following commands,
apt-get clean
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
When I run apt-get upgrade everything appears to be working until I get hit with this,

My internet connectivity is not that fast. Since I am using Squeeze, there will be very frequent updates.
My problem is that I am not able to download all the update in one go and to complete the upgrade. As the number of files to be downloaded and upgraded increases, I can't seem to be able to reach the end point to complete any update.
Can aptitude upgrade just the files that have been downloaded so far, and resume downloading the rest in the next attempt? MS Windows will update the OS with whatever patches downloaded without waiting for the rest if I prematurely shutdown the pc.
I just tried to upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10, but since update-manager did not show the upgrade button (for some reason it did not know that there was a new release?), I tried upgrading using sudo do-release-upgrade.This only worked partially though, and now when I run lsb_release -a it says that I am running maverick, but when I try to run update-manager, it says that the upgrade was only completed partially, and it suggests that I try to finish the upgrade, but it then gets the following error:"An upgrade from "maverick" to "lucid" is not supported with this tool"

Decided to upgrade my 8.04 server to 10.04 today. Everything went smooth when I tried to install in vmware. When I tried to install it on my real machine the installation hangs at 74% Storing Language...
I've checked the disk and I tried different ways to install (different language, both keyboard and system). The first two attempts the installer just turns off and the computer reboots. This third time it just hangs. how to debug and solve this problem?
It's the x86_64 version. I'm using the standard options all the time including LVM on whole disk.
I m Not able to do complete my cluster Configuration. I have done my Cluster configuration but when i m running the system-config-cluster command the cluster configuration window appear, but after closing the window it is giving me the following error [root@node1 ~]# system-config-cluster. # when the window opens, I get the below error. It is impossible to install or remove any software. Please use the package manager "Synaptic" or run "sudo apt-get install -f" in a terminal to fix this issue at first.

I am unable to complete the installation of Slack 13.0 on a new machine with Intel DH55HC motherboard and Intel Core i5 750 processor. The installation proceeds smoothly until the 3'rd CD and then hangs at the FONTCONFIG UPDATE stage. The hung process is apparently rescan-scsi-bus which reaches this stage

It is not possible to kill this process even with "kill -9". I have to kill the parent process which is Slack setup, so the installation is incomplete. There is another recent thread on this issue [URL] but it did not resolve my problem. How to correct or bypass this difficulty (maybe another kernel? I use the default).
I am trying to upgrade a Debian 4 server to v5 with the instructions from document.However, I am having trouble with getting an installed package upgraded to the latest version for the current release (see error below). And I am afraid to upgrade the distribution if I can't get this package to upgrade. One thing I did notice in the error was, "Aborting downgrade from (at least) 5.1 to 5.0". The dpkg --get-selections command showed that both MySQL 5.0 and 5.1 were installed (I don't know how or why, as I was not the one to setup this server), but 5.0 was the one running. So I've since uninstalled v5.1 but that error still shows up when I try to do an apt-install upgrade. I don't know that this is what is causing the package upgrade to fail but I thought it worth mentioning.

After upgrading kernel package to 2.6.32-5 NVIDIA installation gave me ERROR:Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'. my system proposed an upgrade to 10.04. this morning it seemed to complete, restarted itself. it gets to the UBUNTU logo, shows "Starting Up" and then.... nothing. it just hangs with a blank screen. when I've faced a crapped out upgrade before on another machine I had to reinstall from an old 9.04 CD and then upgrade again.
when I start that process at the Partitioner it is showing me that "Ununtu 10.04 is installed" and asks if I want to replace it with 9.04 I would like to avoid the downtime of that reinstall and reupgrade process. is there anything I can do at this point to revitalize my 10.04? (and in general, is this a fairly common problem? crapped out upgrades? in my 2-years of using Ubuntu this is the 2nd time I've faced a failed upgrade.)
I am running Fedora 8. Each time I run a YUM command, I get the message that there are unfinished transactions, and to run yum-complete-transaction. Upon running yum-complete-transaction, it fails with this error. How can I remove this uncompleted transaction so I can finish the last one?
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I try to shut my PC down (press the shutdown button in KDE 4.3.4), the desktop quits, but the console screen does not appear (the CTRL+ALT+F1 screen). Well, technically speaking it appears but only a still (not blinking) cursor is shown, otherwise the whole screen is blank. This means that not only the X freezes but whole system, because the keyboard is unresponsive too. It happend multiple times now, and every time I reboot after such event, some kde rc files (amarokrc, kmailrc, etc...) get deleted due to the automated filesystem check (unclean umount), which means that I have to reconfigure these apps again.
My home partition is on a separate EXT2 partition (this way I have full r/w access from winxp) and every time this is the only one which gets corrupted. The system partition (which is EXT3) is always intact (no fsck starts on boot). I'm using Debian Squeeze by the way.
I'm wondering if complete removal of meta-packages, that being the package itself AND all of its dependencies, is possible in one command of aptitude and/or apt-get. For instance, if I have the whole kde installed, and wish to remove that whole load and replace it with the smaller kdebase, can I do this in two commands (IE, "aptitude remove kde", and then followed by "aptitude install kdebase"). The preceding commands wouldn't work, because just removing the initial meta-package would not remove its dependent packages. BUT, I'm wondering if there is a way to remove a meta-package AND its dependent packages all in one command (rather than having to go through individually removing each one).

After pressing on the "To"-button, no e-mail address is visible in the list of contacts. That is strange since the contacts are visible within the address book itself. However, when I typed the name of a contact within the "Search"-field of the address book, it also shows no result. Strange... Additional info: two days ago I replaced addressbook.db in Debian manually by the addressbook.db from Ubuntu 11.04 (I'm migrating from Ubuntu 11.04 to Debian Squeeze). It seems that there is no connection between the visible contacts in the address book and the rest of the Evolution. How can I solve it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had my laptop turned on. The battery turned out low and my pc shut down (not in the correct way obviously)! Plus: I was running apt-get upgrade but it should have done before shutting down. Now, I restarted my pc and under nm-applet I see: "wireless network: device not ready" and at login I get the message: "Network configurations failed. org.freedesktop.dbus.error.spawn.PermissionsInvalid: the permission of the setuid helper is not correct" and that I could not be able to connect via bluetooth (but actuallyu I can't use wireless!)! What to do guys? I use debian squeeze. I read from someone using kubuntu that he solved the problem reinstalling all the packages with "dbus" in their name. But I don't know if my ethernet will work yet!
Update: if I run dpkg-reconfigure dbus, it tells me that dbus package is corrupted or not complete: could be the issue?
Canon PIXMA MX492, installed drivers from Canon page a few weeks ago, printed test page just fine, printed a few pages after that.
This week I reinstalled Jessie, but with net install instead of live USB. Installed drivers from Canon, it all looks the same.
Localhost: 631 says print job complete, but nothing ever prints. Printer doesn't respond at all. Where print spool is going. I can't figure out what I missed. The install was so simple last time and it should have been the same.
The net install seemed to fix drawing tablet drivers, maybe broke printing somehow? Updated kernel for graphics firmware, but same version as a few days ago.
I tried to customized my new ISO according to this WIKI URL...Eventually I faced some problems:

I just expanded my raid 5 array from 3*2TB to 4*2TB and mdadm made the grow successfully and shows an md0 dev with the size of 6TB usable data. Now my problem is that Debian (Lenny) dosnīt show the right amount. See below
