Updating my kernel corrupted grub preventing me from booting. Running the grub shell to restore the primary stage bootloader, restored bootability. It is important to note, that several months ago, I had a similar failure that corrupted the MBR.Are there any Linux based tools to check an HD for sanity? By the latter I am not only understanding software integrity but also hardware sanity.

yesterday i tried to install bt4 from alongside ubuntu 10.04. Unfortunately the DVD had some errors and the installation stopped. Everything was fine till then, even the GRUB was working(i guess!) but when i tried to log into my Ubuntu it gave me an error... View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu 10.10 to dual-boot with XP Home on my Asus 1005HA netbook. The main hard drive is an OCZ Vertex 2 SSD. I've tried all the common tools for accessing the Ubuntu partition from inside XP, but none of them appears to work. Ext2IFS didn't let me assign drive letters - in fact, it doesn't seem to detect the Ubuntu partition at all. The Ext2IFS config tool in Control Panel looks like this (the SSD is 120 GB, and the Linux partition is 10GB as I recall):
explore2fs doesn't even start. Linux Reader can't open any drive, including flash drives and external HDDs.
I can't think of anything irregular about my system except the SSD. Could that be it?

Is menuconfig used by or included in ltib? I understand that both tools generate a kernel, But I guess ltib can process "something more"? (packages/target selection? )
