Ubuntu :: ERROR While Getting Interface Flags - No Such Device

Mar 26, 2011

i am trying to connect my AWUS036H to my Compaq CQ60 laptop running Ubuntu 10.10. when i check ifconfig, one minute my wlan1 is there, next minute its not, if i try to do a sudo ifconfig wlan1 up i get, wlan1: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device and when i try it again it accepts the command no probs, i suspect this is because the device is in and out every few seconds. when i checked rfkill, i found a hard block which i resolved with unblock all, i have checked the unit under windows and it works just fine so i suspect it is a problem with my ubuntu

Ubuntu Networking :: ERROR While Getting Interface Flags: No Such Device

Apr 9, 2010

I am having an odd problem with a program I'm trying to run which is supposed to connect to a network. The messages printed when I start up the program are:

SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device
192.168.11.50: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device
SIOCADDRT: File exists

One reason this is particularly odd is that the network itself appears to be working fine, otherwise. I can connect to the internet on my computer and everything, but the program is not able to connect to it, for whatever reason. I've tried tinkering with the settings but nothing worked.

Ubuntu Networking :: Eth3: ERROR While Getting Interface Flags: No Such Device

Jun 14, 2010

yesterday without reason my eth0 dissappeared. I read through various threads, tried couple of things, and now its s back as eth3. If I bring up the network on the console it says [OK], but I cant ping my router or access any website.

BTW: During the proccess I removed network-manager-kde, which I regret now (cause I cant install it again w/o network). Even so my network was configured manually, it would be good to have it now for testing connections. The machine also got no CDROM-drive, I installed via USB.

EDIT: I booted up again, and now eth3 is gone again I get the former error message when I restart the network: "eth3: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device"Same with all other ethX. As far as I can see w/ my basic knowledge, the realtek adapter is present and working. ifconfig only shows me "lo" nothing else.

Networking :: Location Of Standard Interface Flags On SUSE

Jun 15, 2010

I am reporting various network statistics in a c++ program by reading the values out of /proc. However, I am having trouble determining the link status. In particular, I am wondering:

1. How are the standard interface flags (IFF_UP, IFF_RUNNING) as referenced in if.h accessed from user land? The ifconfig man page lists its files as

/proc/net/socket (doesn't exist in suse), /proc/net/dev, and /proc/net/if_inet6. None of these seem to contain these flags.

2. ip link show reports a "NO-CARRIER" flag. How does this correlate with the "UP" and/or "RUNNING" flags as reported by ifconfig, and how is it accessed from user space?

Debian :: Configure: Error: Cannot Find The Flags To Link With Boost Date_time

Feb 17, 2011

I'm trying to cross compile something and it requires a recent version of Boost. I'm using squeeze and gnome and my updates are all up to date. I could not get through the 'configure' stage with Boost dev packages from the debian repository, so I went to the Boost web site. I thought the package requires boost 1.44 or later, so I downloaded 1.45.0 from the site and proceeded to build and install it. I think I installed it right, using /usr/local/ as the prefix. Back at my main project, I try to configure my build and I get some of the following text and then the configure stops.

Code:

checking for Boost's header version... 1_45
checking for the toolset name used by Boost for arm-none-linux-gnueabi-g++... configure: WARNING: could not figure out which toolset name to use for arm-none-linux-gnueabi-g++
checking boost/date_time/posix_time/posix_time.hpp usability... yes

[code]....

I cannot get past the 'date_time' thing. Does anyone know what is meant by 'flags to link with Boost date_time' ?

Ubuntu :: Claim Interfaced Failed: Could Not Claim Interface 0: Device Or Resource Busy

Apr 10, 2011

I'm currently running Ubuntu Maverick - 2.6.32-30-generic. I recently bought a Garmin eTrex Vista H, which connects via usb (from my reading, it looks like older versions connected over serial). Well, like so many before me, I can't seem to write to or read from the device via gpsbabel.Originally tried to read anything from the device (I have one waypoint in there) via:

Code:

gpsbabel -i garmin -f usb:

It returned "Found no Garmin USB devices." I then tried turning on the eTrex. Doing the same while locating satellites just does nothing - I have to escape from the command in terminal. Trying again produces the error:

Quote:

Claim interfaced failed: could not claim interface 0: Device or resource busy

After doing some research, I unblacklisted and then reblacklisted garmin_gps. I also went into

Code:

/etc/udev/rules.d/51-garmin.rules

to verify that the contents were:

Quote:

SYSFS{idVendor}=="091e", SYSFS{idProduct}=="0003", MODE="666"

as directed in this . Everything seemed to be correct.I then followed some other advice found here and created the policy under /etc/hal/... Still no luck!

General :: Can't Find Boot Device - Error "Unable To Determine Major/minor Number Of Root Device"

Mar 17, 2011

I just compiled my first own kernel (I'm using Arch Linux), following the tutorial on the german site. Now I tried to boot it, I ended up failing with this message: Code: Waiting 10 seconds for device /dev/sda1 ... Root device '/dev/sda1' doesn't exist, Attempting to create it. ERROR: Unable to determine major/minor number of root device '/dev/sda1' Here is the important part of my menu.lst:

I simply copy&pasted the Arch-entry, i.e. I also had the disk by uuid there. The failure message was the same, just the root device name was the different name Also, at first I did not have the initrd line in my menu.lst (as written in my tutorial that I may not need it). In this case I had this error message:

General :: Ifconfig Return "unknown Interface: No Such Device"

May 9, 2010

I'm trying to install a Linux driver for my wireless network card (D-Link DWL-G510) on my Red Hat Linux 7.1 machine with a 2.4.37.9 kernel. I downloaded the serial monkey driver from the sourceforge site and was able to successfully compile the rt73 module and load it into the kernel. The problem now is that everytime I issue the command ifconfig wlan0 up it keeps returning with the following error message: wlan0: unknown interface: No such device.

I'm at a loss as to what to do here. I specifed wlan0 as the alias for the rt73 module in the modules.conf and also tried to load the driver with the command modprobe rt73 ifname=wlan0 (this specifies the interface name according to the instructions packaged in the driver), but the error message still keeps coming up.

Is there something else I need to do in Linux to configure the wlan0 part or is the module not recognizing the wireless network card? It would be quite strange if it is the later since all information from the Internet is indicating this is the linux driver I should be using for mentioned wireless card.

I am getting the same errors everytime I boot the server up:

Error: no such device {SOME-UUID}
Error: no suck disk

After that the system boots normally, but Im afraid ignoring this error can make my system crash in the future. I figured it was a grub error and I tried the update-grub2 command, it does detect all installed kernels no problem, but after I reboot I get the same error message.

So I've tried some hours ago to install the new kernel 2.6.38 and when I did the reboot, it prompted this error: "Error 11: Unrecognize device strong

Press any key to continue..." I know this is such a general question but how to install the new kernel with Fedora 14? I think I did compiled and configured it ok and did something that wasn't recognized by grub or perhaps when I ran the command to make the new initrd.
