Jul 22, 2011Anyone else having issues with the Atheros AR8132 and the atl1c module? I am on the 2.6.38.8-35.fc15.i686.PAE kernel, tried with a few others but it's flaky no matter which I choose.
Sometimes if I load/unload the atl1c module a few times the link will come up, but it seems the module is not even being loaded at boot and I have to modprobe it just to see the NIC.
Ubuntu :: Alternative/Minimal On EeePC 1101HA - No Atl1c Network Support
Aug 16, 2010The alternative and minimal installation images do not contain drivers for my EeePC 1101HA's network devices. The module required for the ethernet is atl1c (Atheron AR8132), but the discs contain only atl1 and atl1e. What can I do to install it?
I dug the .ko file out of the live CD (which works fine) and tried to modprobe it in the alternative installer's environment (minimal won't let me mount any storage devices), but modprobe wouldn't accept it as a module. So I gather there's a missing step somewhere.
Also, the alternative image is choking on an error, "Debootstrap error: Failed to determine the codename for the release." So I can't even install from a mounted ISO and figure out how to install the driver on the otherwise working system.
How do I make this work? I'd really like to build an Ubuntu system from the ground up instead of relying on the ready-made desktop live CD.

Jul 31, 2011When doing bit torrent downloads, I eventually lose the wired network connection in about 5-15 minutes. This only happens when Deluge is running. I can surf for hours, our connect up the the work WAN for hours and this does not seem to happen.Until these last two weeks, Deluge has been fast and solid. Here is the error from the log:

Ubuntu Networking :: ThinkPad Running 8.04 Not Showing Ethernet?
Apr 6, 2011My professor gave me an older ThinkPad, i1161, because he wants me to learn linux. So far, I successfully downloaded Hardy Heron onto the computer, using the Alternate version. Everything works great, and I can log on, play games, go into word processor, the whole nine yards. Unfortunately, the computer won't connect to the ethernet cable that I have plugged in. I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but that is probably because I don't know where to begin.
I also get an error message during boot, it says "ACPI no DMI Bios year" then it says "ACPI=force is required to enable ACPI. I don't know what this means, but I fugured it might have something to do with the ethernet.I am connecting through my University internet. Also, under Network Settings ->Connections, it only has one option, "Point to point connection" and it says "This network interface is not configured."
Networking :: Dhclient Running On Disconnected Ethernet Port?
Nov 8, 2010I have a simple server running Ubuntu Server. Usually the server connects to the network by Wifi, so there is usually no cable connected to the Ethernet port. I noticed that there is a dhclient3 running on eth0 anyway. It is causing undesirable disk activity. Obviously, it is never going to get a response as long as no cable is connected. I can kill the responsible process manually, but I wonder first what is starting the process and how I can prevent it from being started. If there is a way to get the server to boot without starting this process, I wonder whether this is the right solution. Connecting to the network by Ethernet is the failsafe when Wifi doesn't work. I guess what I would like to see would be a way for the server to detect when eth0 does not have a cable connected and not start dhclient in that case, but to activate dhclient when a cable is connected.

Jul 29, 2011I am using RHEL6 on a server with 3 interfaces.
eth0 is connecting via a Cisco switch to the outer world and eth1 and eth2 to internal networks.
eth1 and eth2 are working without problems all the time, however I have the following incident with eth0: although it is RUNNING, and after it works for some time (like some hours), it then becomes incapable of sending/receiving traffic. Here are more details, after the interface exits the RUNNING state:

I am wondering whether there this is because there is not traffic for some time and so the interface goes to idle. Is there any parameter I can tweak in RHEL6 to force the interface to remain RUNNING even in the absence of traffic (although I would be expecting that some 802.1 packets would be periodically flowing from the switch to the interface)?

OpenSUSE Install :: Grub Error 18 - Unknown File System - Running From External Hard Drive
Jan 11, 2011It started when I wanted to dual boot Windows 7 and Opensuse off of my netbook (No DVD/CD drive) I tried install suse from an external hard drive and I botched it. I ended up erasing EVERYTHING off of my internal netbook hard drive. Windows and all.
Well, I had a couple of other computers so I studied up and eventually successfully installed OpenSUSE 11.2 on my external hard drive (11.3 being the one that I accidentally erased everything with, so kinda scared of it) and now I want to install openSUSE 11.2 on my internal netbook hard drive.
I can not use disks
I can not use a flash drive (For some reason, even if I make it bootable, it will not load up, this could be because it's actually a 8GB microSD card that is placed in a USB card reader.)
I can not use an external hard drive because that's what I'm running suse off of.
I've tried reading up on how to install suse on another drive off of the hard drive and I've gotten as far as whenever I boot up the netbook with the suse external hard drive connected it will ask to boot into OpenSUSE, the Fail Safe, or to install OpenSuse. When I select to install it it gives me the Error 18 Unknown File system.
I've tried formatting the internal hard drive twice. One as NTFS and again as EXT4. Neither seems to effect it other than when it's ext4 I can open it and it contains a Lost and Found folder.
When I interrupt the boot sequence by pressing c and going to the terminal and I use the root (hd +TAB command it tells me I have a hd0 and a hd1. The hd1 only has 1 partition which is ext4, which I'm assuming hd1 is the internal hard drive (I'm not sure how to check) and the hd0 is the external hard drive, which has three partitions. One with an unknown file system and two with ext4. When I try to enter the set up from the terminal it gives me the same error for any thing I put it (e.g. root (hd0,0) gives the same error as root (hd0,1), or root (hd0,2) and root (hd1,0)
Something like it cannot locate these two files I'm assuming it needs to boot. If anyone finds this relevant I'll retry it and post the files its missing.
I've been searching for awhile and can't find any threads that can solve my problem. From other threads, however, I have noticed that I should probably include my menu.lst, listed below

Aug 6, 2010Sometimes I connect to my Debian box from another computer (using SSH on Cygwin or Linux), and once ina while I want to run some console apps. And sometimes some of these apps might complain about "another intance, Error: an instance of newsbeuter is already running (PID: 2496)". Is there a work around for this issue at all(without killing the original instance") ? The reason I do not want to kill the app because there might be 2 users connected to the same machine that might be using the same app.

Jan 4, 2010I am trying to run a script called install.sh as follows: I get a jar file, and extract it using the command: unzip filename.jar -D path/to/files then I navigate to that directory where I extracted the files, and run the command: sh install.sh (where install.sh is one of the files that has been extracted in that directory using the above unzip command.) running this command gives me an error:'nstall.sh: command not found.' among other errors in the script ( from that portion of the script that should not even be executed, which is really weird). However, instead of unzipping the jar file, if I just copied the same install.sh file to that folder, and ran the 'sh install.sh' command, the script runs fine.

Sep 22, 2010I tried to compile Atheros AR8152 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller driver for fedora 13 64 bit kernel version is 2.6.34.7-56.fc13.x86_64. I have installed kernel source , kernel header and necessary all things to compile it. (linux-firmware-20100806-4.fc13.noarch also installed). I tried AR81Family-linux-v1.0.1.13 source from Atheros web site.
But when I try to make it it give following error.

This driver is not supported on kernel versions older than 2.4.0. Stop. It is not compiling issue because I compiled and installed broadcom wireless driver.
