I am having a recurrent problem with my nfs server. That server hosts our homes which are exported over the network this way:

Regularly the clients are getting stalled, no connection with the nfs server. When I check the logs on the server I see these lines:

I am experiencing serious trouble with my nfs server at office. That server contains the home directory which is exported to all our desktops. Since a few days now, it gets freezed and thus our desktops as well. I found a way to unfreeze it by pushing the power button, the server does not reboot but instead open the boot popup, i then click on cancel. I checked the dmesg file and found these messages:

I am currently trying to replace my Windows Server with a CentOS 5.3 box running nfsd for file serving. I have it all up and running however I cant see anyway of securing user access rights to the shares as all you need to access them is just clone the User ID of a user authorized to access the share of any Linux system which seems a bit insecure to me? I was wondering if there was any advice on securing access to server shares in CentOS.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been a regular user of Linux and have never faced a problem like this one, after I installed Linux Fedora 14 on my laptop. After installation, almost all the softwares that I was earlier using with the earlier version of Fedora are stopping immediately on starting and exitting with a fatal error. eg. when I try to run paraview, it immediately closes after giving some fatal error. Similar is the case with gambit, tecplot and mayaVi softwares.With my earlier version of Fedora, I was not facing any problem. But since I installed Fedora 14, I am facing this problem. I even tried by downloading and installing latest version of paraview and mayaVi from the net, but the latest versions also on starting give the same error : fatal error, and exit the program.
The softwares I mentioned immediately close indicationg a fatal error. The following error messages appear in the console after abrupt shut down of softwares with fatal error :

I am trying to upgrade my NAS with anew toolchain, gcc-4.5.2. The NAS have been "hacked" fonz_plug, that contain a gcc version 4.1.3 with uClibc. I have download all needed tar files and done the following.My goal is to upgrade the gcc to 4.5.2 and replace the ucLibc on the system with a GNU libc.

I'm trying to make some pages. For this I try to host them locally. However, when I have an error in my PHP code, the server shows an internal error 500 page and doesn't show on what line and what compile error it encountered. There is no such information in the error log either. What should I do about it, it's not really nice to comment all the lines and then try to uncomment them one by one. I've been googling for a while, but didn't find anything.. I forgot to mention, I;m using Fedora :P, the apache that came with it and mysql and php from the repository...

Just installed Fedora 10, but having some problems with hardware driver recognition, particularly a wireless network PCI card. ndiswrapper is looking for a kernel in usr/src/kernels, which doesn't exist.In Fedora, is it necessary to compile a kernel? Looking through the FAQ at kernelnewbies, states to extract the kernel to a Linux directory, in usr/src, which also doesn't exist.

Since I'm new to Linux and don't have root privileges, I'm having trouble installing this. I need to install this using command-line. Ive been using linux for a few months now and every now and again i come accross a program that doesnt have a rpm package but says that it can be installed on Fedora using source. I'm familiar with build essentials and the following commands:-
tar xzvf package.tar.gz
cd package
./configure
make
make install
but from what i have read fedora uses a differnet compiler. I'm trying to install Buddi budget manager and the ./configure command doesnt work, which im guessing is because it doesnt have a configure file? Can anyone confirm how to compile from source and whether there are any tutorials specific to fedora.

I found this guide long time ago (i used it many times) but it use src.rpm package and the contained kernel.spec file have many lines for adding patches. While attempting to install CentOS 5.4 x86_64 from DVD (downloaded torrent), I encountered a fatal error that aborted the install and dumped a bunch of log files. I attempted this a couple of times resulting in the same error. I tested my hardware via CentOS 5.4 x86_64 live cd without exception. Here is my install configuration:

I recently got a eSata docking station for hard drives and after deciding to make those volumes encrypted LVM's, I created my first logical volume. After setting it up in yast2 and rebooting I received a prompt for the lvm password, gave it and received:

Boot resumed and I looked for the reason for this, the padlock-sha.ko module does exist in the appropiate place and the volume was mounted in spite of the error message. Lvmdump seems to indicate that the volume is, in fact, encrypted. My thoughts at the moment are that the volume was encrypted by aes, so the padlock-sha.ko was not necessary to mount the volume. Backtracking the message log the same error happened during the creation of the volume before rebooting. The kernel version gives it away but it's a 11.2 machine.
