General :: Finding A Good KDE/Xfce Option?

Apr 6, 2011

I have my laptop that is a full time Linux box. (My desktop system which is for gaming is still a windows box). I have been using Ubuntu for about a year now, and while it is a wonderful system, I am getting restless to try something new. The one thing I dislike about Ubuntu is that I really don't like Gnome (personal preference, I can see why some like it). So I was wondering what would be a good Distribution(s) that I can download and play with so see what KDE has done in the last year and perhaps play with Xfce. I have run SUSE and Ubuntu in the past.

Programming :: Finding G++ Compiler Option To Avoid Forward Declarations

Sep 23, 2010

I am working for a product which was evolved over a decade. There I have some combination of C style coding and C++ coding in same libraries. I am landing on some instances where C style function is expecting forward declarations for some other function for which I can not declare (due to design and architecture). Is there any g++ compiler option that directs the g++ to look whole preprocessed file (because definition is there down in the preprocessed file) than only forward in the preprocessed file. All these years this code is working as we are using CC compiler and that looks entire preprocessed file than only in the forward direction.

<Sample Code
Header1.h file
Function1()
{

[code]....

if I can not include Header2.h first then Header1.h. I have to include Header1.h and Header2.h because on the design hierarchy in this product. Also the function definitions are in header files as they are either template functions or functions expanded through macros.

OpenSUSE Install :: Enable Autologin With Xfce / No "Login Settings" Option In This Menu?

Dec 26, 2010

I'm using openSUSE 11.3 with Xfce 4.7.0 and I want to enable automatic login. What I have tried so far:

1) YaST -> User and Group Management -> Expert Options -> Login Settings. This didn't work because I have no "Login Settings" option in this menu.

2) Editing variables "DISPLAYMANAGER_AUTOLOGIN" and "DISPLAYMANAGER_PASSWORD_LESS_LOGIN" via YaST -> /etc/sysconfig Editor. This didn't work too and xdm was still asking about name and password no matter what I set here.

3) I don't know how to configure xdm, so I tried to replace xdm with gdm. Gdm worked, but application "gdmsetup" was missing from my installation (YaST simply don't offer this package) and I don't know how to set up gdm manually, so I ended without autologin again.

General :: Any Good Tutorials Out There For Sed And Awk?

Feb 8, 2010

I plan to design a general framework for structural optimization.I already have a pre-processor module that I can call in batch mode, a Finite Elements Solver, and a heuristic non gradient based optimizer that can process the outputs of the solver, so as to adjust some input variables in the pre-processing phase ( geometry and topological definitions of my structure ).

I would like to parse the huge ammout of data that is released by the solver ( an ascii text file) to filter out some reauired results in some specific points ( maximum allowable deflections or stresses within my structure ) since it is this infoemation that will be fed to the optimizer engine so as to feedback on the quality of the changes made in the topological definition.The only way to do this in batch mode is with awk, or with sed..

General :: Streaming - Recommendations For A Really Good DVB-T Card?

Feb 4, 2010

I am so fed up with my Sony HDR that is already obsolete. As I am a linux geek, I have been thinking on building my own media central. Reading various hardware support list gives some information about if a card works or not, but not if its good. Also, I would like to buy a card from a vendor that actively supports linux. Can someone recommend a really good DVB-T card?

I would need: DVB-T support.Radio as an option.Two or more channels, three seems like the maximum that I would ever need, but who knows. Doesn't matter if its one or two cards, as long as it works. CAM support. Additional card or built in. I have no idea of how this works actually, but I think the CA module must support mpeg4 too? HDTV/Mpeg4 support (Software is fine, I guess.) I would also need a good remote control (bluetooth) that not neccesarily needs to come with the card, and a decent fanless graphics card that handles hdtv on linux...
