View 7 RepliesI am running ubuntu 10.10 and supplying my internet connection with EasyTether on my Motorola Droid 2. I've got my laptop internet working great, but I've tried to follow a couple connection sharing guides and they don't seem to work with my PS3. So the setup is that EasyTether provides the internet connection and an ethernet cable connects the laptop and ps3. I have even tried using FireStarter, but it says eth0 (the connection between laptop and ps3) is not ready.
So here's the question: What should I do to allow my ps3 to access the internet? I've tried manual and automatic settings on my ps3 and neither worked. I believe the problem is with my laptop's settings.
Here's what happens when I do a connection test on my PS3 (automatic config)
Obatain IP Address - Failed
And when I do it manually
Obtain IP Address - Succeeded
Internet Connection - Failed
I've just got a nice HTC Desire (ie almost the same model as the Nexus One), and it can work as a modem for accessing the internet. After googling this, I've found out that on debian it works straight without adding any package, just as the pjone is connected. This is not the case on slackware 13... Has anyone got this to work already?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to tether internet from my LG Leon to a new debian 8.1 install so i can install network drivers but i keep getting disconnected. After activating the tethering, it works fine, and appears as a "wired" connection in Network, after a minute it will always change from wired to "Mobile Broadband" and asks me to select my "Network". (Then the internet doesn't work until tethering is reset.) Is there any way i can stop debian from doing this? The silly thing the internet works perfectly until it shifts it like this.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've just discovered the app TuneIn on my Android phone, it allows you to access radio stations that broadcast over the net, as well net-only ones, in an easy searchable interface (the 'backend' is the website radiotime.com).
Is there a way to do a similar thing on Opensuse? Currently I have a small list of stations in banshee which I had to manually add - a very painstaking manual process. Is there a plugin for banshee or another program that does this well?
I installed everything and am running android OS on Ubuntu (using androidphonedriver guide). The problem I'm having now is that I don't know how to install android market application to be able to install other apps like opera etc.).

When i connect phone and computer with usb cable i can see my phone listed under 'gprs modem' but when i click 'connect' it says 'please wait' for a while then nothing happens.
I've tried using bluetooth and rfcomm to connect but the devices do not pair. Even l2ping isn't able to communicate with my phone.
When i use rfcomm with the connect command a dialog pops up on my phone requesting pin and i enter the one in my /etc/bluetooth/pin but then nothing happens and rfcomm exits saying connection refused.
My computer can see the signal but it will not connect.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIf Apache license 1 and 1.1 are not compatible with GPL v2 and GPL v3 and the only compatibility is Apache License v2 with GPL v3 how can android kernel be GPL v2 and userspace programs be Apache License 2? More specifically GPL v2 requires all derived works and programs to have the same license as it has, therefore Apache shouldn't be allowed inside android. I've read on a website something like "Google created one middle layer between Linux kernel, without violating GPL. And 3rd party can't see the source code of hardware driver and app" and then "So in oder to get more vendor support, Google specifically modified Linux Kernel, transfer those features which should belong to Kernel, to its userspace source." The above seems vague explanation, even if you put a middle layer this middle layer becomes GPL and anything above as well.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIf you have not heard about some groups that are porting the almighty Android OS onto Apple iDevices, then you should really check out the iDroid team. So far really big advances and progress has been made on the iPhone 3G/2G and iPod Touch for firmwares OS 3.1.2, .3.1.3 and iOS 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2.1. With Blackra1n, redsn0w and sn0wbreeze supported jailbreaks.
We need Linux Kernel developers big time for this project as this is the thing that is holding us back. Having people spread out getting started on ports for other iDevices, slows down the updating process. So please visit [URL] We need more development on the kernels for ports to the newer generations of iDevices. If anyone is interested, hop on our IRC #idroid-dev at [URL].
I am using Android 2.1 froyo. I also installed adobe flash player 10.2 from the Android Market place. The default web browser on the tablet seems to crash when I it encounters flash that is multimedia like audio and video. It's funny how flash works great with linux distributions and not well in android. Does anyone know which version of android and/or web browser works best with flash so the crashes are minimal.

The OverDrive Media Console is required to download and play the audiobooks. I noticed that the OverDrive Media Console is now available for Android. So, my question is, if I download the Android SDK Emulator, would I be able to run the OverDrive app with the emulator? I have downloaded the Emulator, but I need to do so more reading to get it installed and running.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThe KDE 4.7 announcment states:
The Plasma Workspaces now also offer much improved network management, including experimental support for NetworkManager 0.9 as well as Bluetooth tethering, 3G, VPN, MAC spoofing and other advanced networking options.
However, I don't see any options for Bluetooth tethering in the bluedevil or network manager applets. So, could someone explain how to do bluetooth tethering in KDE 4.7.
I am running OpenSUSE 11.4, KDE 4.7, plasmoid-networkmanagment 0.9.svn1192577-7.2 and bluedevil 1.0.2-3.8.1.
I'm trying to tether a laptop running 10.04 w/ my cell. It would also be nice to do it with hardy but I can live w/o that.

View 2 Replies View Relatedhow to use tethering with an AT&T iphone on Debian? I personally have not tried much as I usually have a wireless connection where ever I go. Also I take my Windows XP netbook with me when I go out to service someones PC. If I am at home I use my Desktop mainly.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI can get my system to use the iPhone to tether up, but I don't know how to make Network Manager to do this for me within the GUI somehow. This does work on my eeePC netbook using Ubuntu UNR 10.10. Here is where I think the problem lies. The system sees the phone but doesn't create an ethernet device for it (on either system).
But a:
ifconfig wwan0 up
dhclient wwan0 will make the connection.
On Ubuntu there is a file (/etc/networks) that one can plug some info into, and when once connects the iPhone up to it, it will automatically connect. The data is:
auto wwan0
iface wwan0 inet dhcp.
How would I either make NM work, or accomplish the long way in Fedora, as I could in Ubuntu?
I was wondering what is the status of tethering for 10.4 with a 3gs iphone using os 4.0? I know about jail breaking and pdanet, but i want to avoid that path.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got an iPhone 4 and cannot get wired usb tethering to work. I had the same problem with my old phone, but I was able to wifi tether it without jailbreaking and don't want to have to jailbreak to tether (I don't mind if it is connected via cable, in fact I prefer it).
In both cases, though gnome network manager connects to the phone, and though the phone shows a current tethering connection, the ubuntu system (10.04 Lucid) is not able to load any web pages, despite showing a wired connection, and despite the fact that connection information on this wired connection seems complete (even with an ip address from the iphone and as it did with my old phone). It seems as if there is likely some simple setting that prevents me from using a usb source, though that is a guess.
I searched the forum but could not find anything to solve my problem. I installed Ubuntu via Wubi.exe from windows first time, before deciding to completely format and start with a Linux Ubuntu clean install (64-bit). When I installed it with Wubi.exe, I simply plugged in my Wave and it connected to the internet...no fuss!
Problem is, after clean installing Ubuntu, the same does not happen. I cant connect to mobile broadband. It is worth mentioning that this is my only internet connection available (mobile broadband) and I am thus unable to update, get necessary repositories from Linux etc.
I read something about usb_modeswitch being involved, manually did that, but I still cannot connect to the mobile broadband. Mobile broadband is enabled when I right-click the connections too. I set up the connection for CellC, removed the "Cellcis" username, added it and more, but it still does not connect.
Can anybody give me some pointer on how to go about fixing this connection, because as you can imagine, my Linux install is pretty useless without internet.
I have an iPhone and I am trying to get Internet tethering to work. I know tethering works on the phone as I successfully got it running under windows. I followed the instructions at the following site
[URL]
I ran the following commands
Firstly I installed dependencies with yum:
yum install libimobiledevice libimobiledevice-devel git gcc
Next I downloaded and compiled ipeth. Note: to do this I also had to install kernel headers, I also had to edit the ipheth.c file as per the instructions on the site for fedora 14 (see below for more)
git clone git://github.com/dgiagio/ipheth.git
cd ipheth/ipheth-pair
make
sudo make install
cd ../ipheth-driver/
sudo make install
[Code]....
This allowed me to successfully make the kernel driver. Once this was made I also copied the config file for the kernel driver to /usr/modipheth.d folder as per the readme instructions in the ipheth*folder.
When I type modprobe ipheth it doesn't state it's an incorrect command. I then plugged in my iPhone. Fedora detected it was plugged in and loaded the iPhone logo on the desktop. Internet tethering is turned on within the phone, however network manager does not see it as a device.
What I currently do is run this script -
Code:
rfcomm release 0
CHANNEL = `sdptool search --bdaddr=00:21:FE:A5:C9:4A dun | grep Channel | cut -c14`
rfcomm bind 0 00:21:FE:A5:C9:4A ${CHANNEL}
wvdial e71bt
And my /etc/wvdial.conf is configured for AT&T connection here in the US.
Question is, is there anyway I can integrate it with NetworkManager, instead of having to run this script?
There's a "Broadband" option on NetworkManager, but I am not able to get it to recognize my cell phone as a modem. The bluetooth applet only allows for file transfer
