Can anyone suggest a good free Virtualization Software Package that work on OpenSuse with the KDE Desktop, as I need to use Windows for some applications that have not got a Linux equivelant, Namely Reserch In Motions BlackBerry Desktop Manager and the drivers for my Printer and Scanner, so I would also need something with USB pass through. Or if there isn't any free virtualization software that will dowat I want that's free then something that is not expensive that's paid for. I like the look of Parallels Desktop 4 for Windows & Linux but I'm not sure if I would be able to justify paying 54.99 for the ammount of use that it will get?

Ubuntu Installation :: Upgrade Jaunty To Karmic - Lose Compilers And Configurations?

Jan 8, 2010

I'm a newbie to ubuntu and I only used ubuntu less than a month, and I really like it. I would like very much to upgrade my ubuntu jaunty to ubuntu karmic but I have several concerns. If I choose to upgrade via update manager: 1. Will I lose my compilers and configurations? For example, some of my programs in current ubuntu are using gcc 4.3 and g++-4.3. I know that Karmic uses higher version of gcc and g++ and I have installed these programs in higher version of gcc and g++ and I got some problems. I would very much like to stay with my current compilers and configurations. I mean, do have to install all these previous version of compilers when I upgrade to Karmic? 2. What about my data in my home folder? Will it be erased? 3. What about my data in programs such as firefox? Will it too be erased? 4. What will happen to all third party software if I upgraded to Karmic?

Debian :: Compiling TAUCS For Squeeze Using Intel Studio C And Fortran Compilers

Feb 19, 2011

I want to build Taucs library [URL] , to use its sparse solver in some number crunching apps, [URL] Since i plan to build these apps with the intel development suite, i better build Taucs with the same set of compilers... but AFAIK Taucs doesnt exist in <testing> or <unstable> ( I could apt-get source, and set appropriate flags for compilers it it did ) and i do not quite understand its build system ..It is not a ./configure system...it relies on external libs like blas, lapack and metis... which regardless of existing in Debian repo are built with gcc-4.5... so.. no way of using this to link with an Intel built library...

Server :: Use System Monitor Via A VNC Connection The Free Disk Space Value Is 20GB Free On The Same Volume

May 18, 2011

I've got a question on free disk space. I'm currently running CentOS 5.5 on in Xenserver virtual environment. We've had an issue with disk space. My question is as follows: - from a ssh connection i run df -h this gives the value of 90% used leaving me with 9GB. If I use system monitor via a VNC connection the free disk space value is 20GB free on the same volume. Which one is correct? I do use SNMP to monitor the same volume and should alert me when < 10% is free I know this works as I set the alert threshold to < 90% I get an alert.

Ubuntu Installation :: FREE Support For FREE OS?

Jun 10, 2010

Am I asking too much for a FREE OS? Everybody spend their precious time to help others, that's very helpful. But it seems like there is no support from UBUNTU team, how could we even get through the barrier of not using Microsoft's OSes? No free lunch of course, but it seems to me some issues have never really been solved.I read lot's of people have problem with their WIFI, not just for my OLD USB wifi adapter. I don't have problem with WIFI in XP/Server.

I posted here and there, and seems like no answer, and I do not get any reply from UBUNTU support team, forgive me if I run out of google's keywords.I just need a simple answer, is my WIFI going to work in UBUNTU with a layman effort? I like linux and UBUNTU had put great effort in providing me such a great OS, but if a basic internet connection will need to spent sooo much time to setup, and it still doesn't work. IS IT WORTH to switch to UBUNTU at all

General :: Any Good Tutorials Out There For Sed And Awk?

Feb 8, 2010

I plan to design a general framework for structural optimization.I already have a pre-processor module that I can call in batch mode, a Finite Elements Solver, and a heuristic non gradient based optimizer that can process the outputs of the solver, so as to adjust some input variables in the pre-processing phase ( geometry and topological definitions of my structure ).

I would like to parse the huge ammout of data that is released by the solver ( an ascii text file) to filter out some reauired results in some specific points ( maximum allowable deflections or stresses within my structure ) since it is this infoemation that will be fed to the optimizer engine so as to feedback on the quality of the changes made in the topological definition. The only way to do this in batch mode is with awk, or with sed..

General :: Streaming - Recommendations For A Really Good DVB-T Card?

Feb 4, 2010

I am so fed up with my Sony HDR that is already obsolete. As I am a linux geek, I have been thinking on building my own media central. Reading various hardware support list gives some information about if a card works or not, but not if its good. Also, I would like to buy a card from a vendor that actively supports linux. Can someone recommend a really good DVB-T card?

I would need: DVB-T support.Radio as an option. Two or more channels, three seems like the maximum that I would ever need, but who knows. Doesn't matter if its one or two cards, as long as it works. CAM support. Additional card or built in. I have no idea of how this works actually, but I think the CA module must support mpeg4 too? HDTV/Mpeg4 support (Software is fine, I guess.) I would also need a good remote control (bluetooth) that not neccesarily needs to come with the card, and a decent fanless graphics card that handles hdtv on linux...
