Fedora Networking :: Sendmail Doesn't Send Email For Several Days In Spite Of Being Online?
Apr 27, 2011
I have the following problem with sendmail on F14 (had the same on F13 already):
I have a network setup using bridging which is controlled through traditional ifup/ifdown (because NetworkManager can't handle bridging). My sendmail configuration differs from the Fedora default only by having a SMART_HOST relay. The queueing interval in /etc/sysconfig/sendmail is the default (1h).
When my network connection is up, sendmail normally sends email through the relay immediately. Sometimes I have to interrupt the connection for a few minutes. When my network connection is down, sendmail starts queueing email (OK this far). When the network connection comes back up, I'd expect sendmail to restart sending mail through the relay again. But sometimes, that doesn't happen. Instead, sendmail keeps queueing my mail infinitely (I have seen it happen for several days) until I finally notice that my email isn't received, and run sendmail -q by hand (by that time, my boss is already angry that I'm not responding to his email). In that state, even new mail is queued rather than forwarded by sendmail. It appears that the only way to stop that behavior is to restart the sendmail service.
I have an issue with sendmail. I need to configure sendmail to send email from command prompt to any domain. This is just for the notification purpose. I installed sendmail and sendmail-cf and sm-client. The following are the configuration I have done.
I'm trying to setup notification function for the Nagios Core which use Mail to send notification.I got an account from Rogers. I have SMTP server, email account with authentication information. My Nagios server is in a workgroup, there is now domain assigned to it, I just use nagiosserver.localdomain in /etc/hosts.I added Rogers SMTP server in /etc/mail/sendmail.mc and Future (AuthInfo) I created an /etc/mail/AuthInfo and add AuthoInfo:smtpserver "U:user" " P: pwd" "M:Plain"I added smtp server in /etc/mail/access for RelayI added root@nagiosserver.localdomain on /etc/mail/virtusertableI regenerated sendmail.cf by user m4 commandrestart sendmail service. When I ran: Mial -s test nagios4ccs@rogers.comIt did not prompt any error message , in the maillog it says the message is queued but It can not be sent out
I'm writing a script that will send an alert email given certain conditions. I have the impression that sendmail is what I need to do that. I just don't know how to use sendmail at all. I assume I have to set it up like a typical mail client so that it has a mail server to log into to send from.
I've looked through the man pages, but I can't find anything in plain English there on how to set it up, or how to use it once it is set up.
I have users [URL] unable to send email to [URL]. [URL] user also unable to send email to [URL]. But both email addresses are fine as they can receive email from others or from [URL] and [URL]. I able to telnet mail server 110 and 25, no problem. Version: ESMTP Sendmail 8.12.10
Mail Log:
Feb 23 11:36:35 mail sendmail[16228]: o1N3aZxt016215: to=<xxx1@gas.com>, ctladdr=<xxx@abc.com> (501/501), delay=00:00:00, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=442918, relay=gas.com, dsn=5.1.2, stat=Host unknown (Name server: gas.com: no data known)
I've been having this problem since 10.6 released, but have until now been successful with the "just use Thunderbird" response. My sendmail server hasn't been changed, but as clients upgrade from OSX 10.5 to 10.6 suddenly mail.app will no longer connects to send SMTP messages through the server. (IMAP connections to the same server using the same user/pass combinations work perfectly) When I look at the logs, things basically stop right after the STARTTLS command.
Google indicates alot of people are having similar problems, but I'm not seeing any solutions. Do any of you administrate sendmail servers where some of your clients are using Apple's Mail.app on Snow Leopard, and if so what settings are you using? At this point, I'm happy to make changes to the server to accommodate Apple's issue, I have too many Mac users connecting to my server. I just can't figure out what to change. I've enabled virtually every possible login authentication combination, and none of them work.
I just loaded Ubuntu yesterday and am trying to get it set up.specifically my hotmail.I opened up the mail icon in the top bar and followed instructions from on of the threads here to no avail. When i open it up and try to send an email it doesn't work. I am way new to this. Just fed up with windows.
I am using MTS datacard. I have usb_modeswitch installed and have configured the wvdial.conf file. When I do sudo wvdial cdma, the IPs and DNS addresses are also allocated but I still cant access internet.
Code:
dmesg | grep -e 'tty' -e 'modem'
is:
Code:
[ 0.000000] console [tty0] enabled [ 11.098238] USB Serial support registered for GSM modem (1-port) [ 11.098352] option 6-1:1.0: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected
I have been trying to set up ssmtp so I can send email using Gmail's ssmtp servers. However, when I try to send mail (using mailx), I get the following message:
Code:
Can't send mail: sendmail process failed
Here's the last line from dmesg (the only one applicable, according to the timestamps and message content):
Code:
[484114.608378] sendmail[17975]: segfault at 0 ip b7dbbbf3 sp bfb0dc4c error 4 in libc-2.11.2.so[b7d44000+14e000]
Here's my ssmtp.conf:
Code:
# # /etc/ssmtp.conf -- a config file for sSMTP sendmail. #
I have configured Sendmail client to send mail to outside network ( Within local domain ), but i am unable to send any mail as i am getting the following error,
[root@cclx10 mail]# cat test |sendmail -v abhilash-o.padmanabhan@hp.com abhilash-o.padmanabhan@hp.com... Connecting to [127.0.0.1] via relay... abhilash-o.padmanabhan@hp.com... Deferred: Connection refused by [127.0.0.1]
I have the following configuration in my "/etc/sendmail.cf" file
# SMTP daemon options O DaemonPortOptions=Port=smtp,Addr=15.146.237.113, Name=MTA
And netstat is showing that sendmail is listening on Port 25 on the IP address which is mentioned.
Regarding few things I am facing problem : 1. How to send one copy of that outgoing mail generated from the source. It should cc to another mail id in server's backend while mail sending. 2. I don't have any domain - internally or externally. Only have static ip, accessible from outside. Can I configure sendmail to send-receive through that ip. 3. How to transfer all mails and addressbook from exchange server to linux sendmail server.
I am trying to send an email by sendmail (ubuntu) to external servers, but unable to send. following is what i am trying to do and what i got the response:
I wish to setup an email server, using sendmail and DOVECOT on F13 With no modification of the DOVECOT config file ( fresh installation ), I can see that :
service dovecot restart shows me : service imap stop service imap start
the sendmail packages on my f15 server were updated from 8.14.4-20 to 8.14.5-1 yesterday. since then, every attempt to send mail via a smart relay have failed with :
Jun 25 14:05:10 server sendmail[23512]: p5PD59jr023512: from=root, size=208, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<201106251305.p5PD59jr023512@server.{fromdom ain}>, relay=root@localhost Jun 25 14:05:10 server sendmail[23513]: p5PD5A8l023513: from=<root@server.{fromdomain}>, size=480,

i've tried using various different smtp relays and they all now throw the same error. without going through all my sendmail config, i have the following entries in /etc/mail/sendmail.mc :
I have configured sendmail server on my Rhel5 machine.i just wanted to know whether i can connect my machine with internet and send my mails through sendmail.
i m using code for sending email through GMAIL SMTP as given below... can any one tell me that how i can send EMAIL through Centos 5 CLI mode...in graphical mode we use webbrowser but in Command line how i can use this project.
In my Windows environment, I use email client such as Microsoft Outlook to connect to our email server to send email with the following configuration:
Incoming server (POP3): 995 - (requires with SSL) Outgoing server (SMTP): 465 - (use encrypted connection SSL)
[code]....
And the mail server requires user ID login and password.how do I setup a text command based email client in my Linux (Centos 5.1) to send out email through the existing email server above, which is in another machine? The email client has to be text command based because I need to use command line to send notification email from anothar application installed in my Linux (Centos 5.1) Since the email client will only be used to send email notification, I don't require setting up of an email server in my linux.
Debian 5, apache 2.2 I've got Apache up and hosting multiple sites. Each site will have a php contact me page that will simply dump an email to a fixed address. What program should i be using to accomplish this? I've used nullmailer before but that assumes you have a fixed smarthost somewhere which I don't.
I'm attempting to send email used a textbook PHP application. The application fails to send an email.Do I need to setup an email server to get the ap to work?Right now, I'm getting email through Kontact via my web host, Yahoo mail and Google mail.
I have 2 clients (one IP 200.x.y.52 and another 200.x.y.47) in ADSL conection and a same gateway (200.x.y.1).
When the server send an email, the error "No route to host" appear. I used TELNET 200.x.y.52 25 (110 soo) and the error occurr in both servers and both directions. The Firewall was disabled .
Just recently I started using a cluster in my school to run some heavy tasks, which might require long periods to get done. The thing is that I can only send one task after the previous one has been completed (cluster use policies) and since I don't know in advance how much time each task will take, I'd like to have a way of knowing when one given task is already done (other than keep checking it).I am allowed to submit the jobs in bash scripts, so that's what I have at my disposal.
I am trying to setup a simple SMTP server to relay scanned documents from a Xerox machine to email addresses. Unfortunately the Xerox machine doesn't support TSL or SSL so sending mail over port 25 on gets blocked. I have setup postfix on a desktop running Fedora 13 and have been able to set it up to forward the mail onto the correct server (gmail for example). My question is, how do I get the server to encrypt the emails (scanned documents) when sending them over the internet?
I have tried adding:
Code: smtpd_use_tls = yes smtpd_tls_cert_file = /etc/postfix/smtpd.cert smtpd_tls_key_file = /etc/postfix/smtpd.key But when I look at the wireshark capture of the sending I can read my test message in plain text.
script for to check a logfile in frequently and the script need to send an email alert9to external email id's) incase of any new error in the log file.
I'm trying to configure postfix so smart daemon can send out notifications emails. My system will need to send emails to a mail server that is on the same local network. I have not had much luck in getting this to work, and am confused on what I need to setup to do this and how to set it up. Does my system need to be apart of the same domain as the mail server? If so, how do I do this? Is there any restrictions sending emails from the command line as the root user? Do I need to configure a relayhost?
Basically all I need to do is send emails to a local mail server, i.e. a mail server on the same local network. I do not need to receive emails. I am rather clueless as to how to set this all up, and what I need for this basic email functionality. I have read and tried many postfix configuration tutorials, but when I try to send out a test email to a email address on the local network mail server I always get "Connection refused" to the server and deferred or bounced status on my test email.
I'd like to set up a shell script that will send various emails at regular intervals through gmail. I'm sure that there is some sort of text-based email client out there, but I'd like to do this with cron or anacron. I know a little bit of shell scripting but am definitely not great at it.
I'm trying to set up a basic smtp server on my local computer that I can send basic, unencrypted email through on port 25. I installed postfix, and I chose the following options:
Internet Site, System Mail Name: localhost Root and postmaster mail recipient: I left this blank For other domains to accept mail, I entered : NONE, localhost No force synchronous mail updates Local networks: 127.0.0.0/8
